Neptune in Pisces: A Shift in the Collective

Neptune in Pisces began on April 4, 2011 and will be there until 2026. This was a shift all of us felt, with a very specific meaning and purpose. Can you think back to what was happening in your life and in the world at that time? Neptune continues to move through Pisces for all of 2022. In June, Neptune will go retrograde and will strongly affect some people more than others. How will it affect you?

What Does Neptune in Pisces Symbolize?

Neptune represents the dreamer, the saint, and the artist in all of us.  This mystical, slow-moving planet functions as an eraser of boundaries and dissolves blockages between the material world and the divine. Neptune rules music, sleep, water, oneness, fluidity, and illusions. Like all planets, Neptune contains both light and dark manifestations, and defines each generation by its dreams

Pisces is a mutable water sign. It brings the feeling of oneness with all that is, even the metaphysical.  It is where things are sensed and not spoken, because telepathy is its means of communication. The last sign of the zodiac, Pisces represents the end of a journey and a deep understanding of all the archetypes, signaling the time to turn inward. In this inward reality, Pisces can often feel either comforted by its spiritual connection with the universe, or experience the confusion, escapism, and disillusionment that comes along with the search for spiritual connection.

Neptune in Pisces: 2011-2026

Pisces is ruled by Neptune, and so Neptune in Pisces signals a doubly strong period of universal understanding, spiritualism, collective dreams, idealism, and humanism, as well as fear and disillusionment. The last time Neptune was in Pisces (in the mid-19th century) marked a time of many European revolutions, the Civil War, and a resurgence of mysticism. The current transit of Neptune in Pisces began in 2011 and brings these themes of fantasy, compassion, imagination, music, art, religion, dreams, the subconscious, drugs, inspiration and idealism into the current zeitgeist.

Neptune, Spirituality and Social Media

Neptune’s misty spiritualism has affected us all in the last decade or so. The mainstream is markedly more interested in and open to intuitive practices such as tarot, and bodies of knowledge like astrology. The way that people anonymously merge with the internet facilitates a Neptunian wish to all be part of the same body.

With the continuing surge of social media, we have experienced an increase in inspiration, spirituality, creativity, as well as the ability to appear however we desire. On the positive side, people are acknowledging that dreams and the power of imagination as keys to manifestation. However, the line between reality and fiction continues to bleed together, as people’s online personas accumulate more weight and pose an irreconcilable conflict to their IRL lives.

Pisces and Transcending the Body

With Pisces’ lack of embodiment, we find that physical formats such as books, CDs, tape, records and film, are a thing of the past. Media has left the cumbersome physical dimension of personal property and joined the collective cloud where everything is available and searchable. Everything we could ever want to watch, read or listen to is at our fingertips. Neptune in Pisces has consequently marked a time when people have fallen prey to binge-watching, escapism, and addiction (also Neptunian themes).

On the bright side, Neptune’s transit through Pisces has given rise to social movements that call for increased awareness, compassion and empathy, as well as a more understanding stance on drugs and addiction. The increasing decriminalization and legalization of marijuana in the states, the international rise of harm reduction, as well as the increasing use of clinical trials using LSD, Psilocybin and MDMA for treating depression and PTSD demonstrate a more holistic approach to addiction.

How Does Neptune in Pisces Affect You?

Neptune continues its 15-year journey passing through Neptune and this year, it will be traveling from 22 to 25 Pisces. That means if you have any planet in 22 to 25 degrees of Pisces, you are having a Neptune transit to that planet this year. Because Neptune in Pisces forms a challenging aspect to Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius, if you have any planet in 22 to 25 degrees of any of these mutable signs, that planet is also having a Neptune transit. What should you do about it?

Neptune in Pisces is the dreamer who prefers to retreat to a fantasy world where they are surrounded by imagination, love, and magic. But if any of us have ever watched a fairytale before, we all know how things can easily become disenchanted. To avoid disillusionment, we must remember that the highest manifestation of Neptune in Pisces is complete acceptance. This transit can be full of spiritual understanding, connection, and a strengthened sense of empathy. This is a perfect time to access your imagination and your connection to the other side.

This transit of Neptune in Pisces can dissolve boundaries. It is important to remember that healthy boundaries are about a defined sense of self, not so much about walls. When Neptune is in Pisces it might be easier to strengthen your boundaries by strengthening your spiritual values. Identify when things don’t match those values and release the energy and emotions that aren’t yours that you’ve sponged up. Film, art and music are all great things that can bring better understanding of things you are trying to grasp.  Retreats, adequate sleep, dream journaling, creativity, and spiritual healing are great things to incorporate during this mystical transit.
