What does the January Astrology Forecast hold in store for you?
January Astrology Forecast:
The Big Picture: Outer Planets
Planetary Sign Changes:
Neptune and Saturn are both now direct and speeding along through the end of Pisces. Neptune enters Aries on January 26 and Saturn follows on February 13. This feels like the end of an era, like exiting the fog and leaping into a new phase of action and inspiration.
Chiron is also in Aries, but getting ready to leave it for Taurus mid-year. That’s three planets in the Cardinal Fire Warrior sign during the first half of 2026. The fog will feel long-gone by February.
Uranus starts the year in Taurus and retrograde, going direct on February 3rd. Uranus in Taurus (his sign of fall) has brought a lot of disruption and uncertainty to the economic space. Think cryptocurrency, tariffs and other financial insanities of the past year. In April Uranus moves into Gemini (sign of curiosity and learning), to bring innovation and reform to the sectors of communications, education and media.
Jupiter starts 2026 enjoying his sojourn through Cancer (where he is exalted). I hope you’ve seen improvements to your home and family life since Jupiter moved into his fave sign on June 9, 2025. The big planet will continue in Cancer, traveling retrograde, until March—so there’s still time to find your next-level home or improve relations with your… relations.
Pluto continues plugging along through Aquarius, where he will spend 20 years in total. During this transit we’re experiencing a lot of tribalism, nationalism and social warfare. This is a side-effect of Pluto’s tendency to bring corruption to the surface. Hopefully it eases out as Pluto moves from the early degrees of Aquarius (more rough-cut) and into the later ones (more “evolved”).
Outer Planet Direct And Retrograde Periods
We are heading into another “all outer planets direct” season. This has been happening every spring since 2018. It’s a wonderful feeling when all the outer planets are traveling forward at the same time. Big projects that you begin during this Total Direct Season stand a greater chance of proceeding smoothly, with fewer obstructions.
With so many planets traveling retrograde in the summer and fall of 2025, we felt that we were slogging along, dealing with many obstacles. Then Pluto turned direct in October 2025 and Saturn turned direct in November, followed by Neptune in December. Chiron follows on January 1st and Uranus follows in February. Finally, Jupiter pivots direct in March. With each planet shifting from backwards to forwards motion, we begin to feel that the way forward is cleared, the obstacles removed.
The current Total Direct Season runs from March 10, 2026 to May 6, 2026. Grab it while you can, because it’s getting shorter every year and next year will only run from April 21 – May 8.
Saturn Conjunct Neptune:
Take Responsibility For Your Wishes
A conjunction of Neptune and Saturn began in 2025 and continues now, to finish in 2026.
Neptune The Visionary And Saturn The Builder:
Neptune’s job in our skies is to enrich our imagination and awaken our visionary nature. Saturn’s job is to press us to take responsibility for what we want to achieve and build. During 2025, and continuing in 2026, Saturn and Neptune were traveling together, zigging and zagging over the cusp between Pisces and Aries. While in Pisces, they taught us to take responsibility for our dreams and visions, also our artistic potential and (more practically) our sleep. In Aries, they teach us to take responsibility for our heroic vision and our impulses and actions. This combination is tailor-made to stir up our dreams and press us to action in pursuit of spiritual ideals. Who are the heroes who will emerge to fight the good fight?
On The Cusp of Pisces And Aries:
Both planets begin January in Pisces and direct, ready to press onward. Neptune types (Pisceans, for one example) who have felt confused and sluggish during Neptune Retrograde will perk up in the new year. Saturn types (such as Capricorns) will feel their energy rising and their path cleared as Saturn finishes Pisces. Both planets will sweep out of Pisces and into Aries by February, and neither will return to Pisces again for many years.
Chiron And Jupiter: Healing And Growing In 2025-2026
Chiron and Jupiter formed a square in 2025, and will make their final pass in 2026.
Chiron And Jupiter Traveling In Square:
Jupiter and Chiron have been traveling in square in the past year. This means that if you are having a Chiron transit now, it’s likely you are also having a Jupiter transit. This is a great combination, and I’ll tell you why. Chiron brings old traumas to the surface so they can be healed—a naturally uncomfortable process. But Jupiter gives you the hope and confidence to complete the healing, garnering a better result than if you’d never been wounded in the first place.
In Aries And Cancer:
Jupiter in Cancer radiates an expansive emotional warmth. Chiron in Aries pokes the angry bear in us, demanding that we assert ourselves, but in a balanced way. This means not being excessively ragey, nor being a doormat. While this healing process goes on, Jupiter tells us that we can grow from it. One very likely result is that many people who had dissociated from their anger may be able to reclaim it and fight for themselves more effectively.
Shifting Into Taurus And Leo:
Jupiter remains retrograde while Chiron goes direct on January 1st, 2026. As Chiron surges forward through the end of Aries this year, deep healing is possible because of Jupiter’s help. They met in a square aspect during December and will meet in their final square in early July 2026. This happens when both are changing signs, with Chiron in 0º Taurus and Jupiter in 0º Leo. Chiron’s move into Taurus signals a 6-year era of healing around Taurus themes: food, body, money. Jupiter’s year-long transit of Leo will amp creativity and self-expression—especially for Leos.
January Astrology Forecast:
Faster-Moving Planets
And Dates To Watch
Capricorn Sun Season, Dec 21, 2025 – Jan 19, 2026:
You may have to make an effort to keep warm during the season of Capricorn. This Cardinal Earth sign is devoted to building something real and enduring. This is a time for focus, responsibility, and making practical choices that support your long-term goals. Patience, integrity, and commitment help you create structures that hold steady and carry you forward with confidence.
Aquarius Sun Season, Jan 19 – Feb 18, 2026:
Brisk winds stir during the season of Aquarius. This Fixed Air sign is deeply cerebral, bringing crisp ideas for innovation, progress, and a vision of a better future. Gather your tribe, the people you feel a sense of belonging with. Ask them, “what is our mission, what ideal is the seed in the crystalline structure of our ideology? Then let the breakthroughs come! Even something as mundane as a knitting group can benefit from a return to core principles and a brainstorming session on where the group is excited to go next.
Mercury Direct: Greater Epiphany Day
During January 2026, Mercury moves through Capricorn, encouraging careful thinking, practical conversations, and decisions grounded in real-world outcomes. This is a strong period for making your plans for the year. It’s also great for problem-solving and saying what you mean with maturity and precision. On January 20th, Mercury enters Aquarius, opening your mind to new ideas, inventive solutions, and future-focused conversations. On the 21st, Mercury conjuncts the Sun on “Greater Epiphany Day” so aim to capture the best ideas then.
Ceres Direct In Aries:
Ceres went retrograde last year in Aries, and as of November is now direct again. She is still moving very slowly and doesn’t leave her retrograde span (shadow period) until February 5th. I like to call this “Financial Resolution Day” because it’s the point at which any financial tangles you got into during the 2025 Ceres Retrograde period can fully resolve. So here in January, we’re still seeing the recent messes play out and their resolution is yet to come. With Ceres making her retrograde journey in Aries, those messes might have to do with impulsive financial behavior.
Juno Direct in Capricorn:
In January, we are still in a follow-through period since Juno conjuncted the Sun at 25º Sagittarius on December 16. I like to call Juno-conjunct-Sun “Commitment Rapture Day.” This means that if you initiated or strengthened a committed relationship last month, congratulations! You’ve built on solid ground. Continue building on that foundation as Juno travels steady, practical Capricorn in January. Make plans together. Set goals together. Build a future together.
Venus Direct—Relationship Rapture Day:
Venus travels direct through Capricorn this month, restoring momentum to love and friendship. This brings the clarity and confidence to develop the bonds you have in your life—or build new ones. Capricorn’s steady wisdom supports lasting bonds and restrained—but definite—progress.
On January 6, Venus conjuncts the Sun at 16º Capricorn, which I call Relationship Rapture Day. On this day, look to pursue the relationships that feel the most aligned, mutual, and easy. The week surrounding January 6th is powerful for moving relationships forward quickly and also sustainably.
Mars Direct, In Capricorn And Aquarius:
Mars begins January in Capricorn, where he is exalted. Mars is exalted in Capricorn because the fierce, driven nature of Mars benefits from Capricorn’s containment and focus. This supports disciplined action, stamina, and steady progress toward goals. Mars travels Capricorn until January 22, entering Aquarius on January 23. This brings a shift toward actions inspired by innovation and social change. In Aquarius, Mars is motivated by the tribe, the group, the collective to challenge outdated systems and forward reform. On January 27, Mars conjuncts Pluto, intensifying willpower and resolve, urging you to use power consciously and choose transformation wisely. If you are an Aquarius and January 27 is within 4 days of your birthday, you should absolutely use the unstoppable force of Mars-conjunct-Pluto to bring positive, humanitarian change to your beloved community. And if you’re one of the other Air signs, Gemini or Libra, this transit can help you make decisions and take action. Use it!
