February 2023 In A Nutshell

February augurs a lot of satisfying social activity. Early in the month, Ceres, asteroid goddess of the physical world, goes retrograde in Libra. Here she will ask us to reexamine our bodies, diets, and finances in service of a greater balance. Meanwhile, Juno, asteroid goddess of committed partnership, continues her direct motion in Aries, bringing frankness and fire to our social dealings. Venus is in dreamy Pisces, bringing compassion, merging, and introversion to our relationships. And, both Mercury and Mars are now direct—Mars in Gemini and Mercury in Capricorn. Mercury moves into Aquarius later in the month, bringing us into a very collectively social time.

The first lunation of the month is a Full Moon in Leo. Cradled by Chiron, Juno and Mars, this moon offers us support via healthy detachment and social skills. We may see the culmination of efforts related to community. The New Moon in Pisces is a new beginning in our creative ideas. This moon forms very few stressful aspects, making it a wonderful time to birth our most cherished dreams. Saturn’s involvement urges us to make our dreams real and definite. In Aquarius, it offers logic as structural grounding. The nodes guide us to release old toxic habits that block us from realizing our vision.  Watch your personal horoscope videos to see how the transits of this month will specifically affect your natal chart.

Long-Term Shifts in 2023

2023 brings some major shifts to our collective consciousness. Most of these changes are occurring due to outer planetary ingresses into new signs. Usually outer planets shift  signs gradually, beginning with preliminary steps into the new sign, followed by backtracking into the former one, and so on and so forth until the planet is solidly within the next sign. These times of transition feature elements of both signs, and highlight the zodiac’s naturally developmental nature from Aries to Pisces. Planets undergoing shifts into a new sign this year include Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, as well as the nodal axis of Eclipses. Read on for a bit about each transition.

Pluto enters Aquarius
The most significant change awaiting us in 2023 is probably Pluto’s ingress into Aquarius. That’s because Pluto is the slowest moving planet, and has been in Capricorn for the past 15 or so years. Pluto’s transit through Capricorn has been a time of serious dismantling and unearthing of toxicity and corruption in mainstream power.

Pluto first enters the fixed air sign Aquarius on March 23, 2023. Pluto in Aquarius will reveal and transform toxic material in the realm of politics, humanitarianism, social justice, science, technology, social media, and the internet. Similarly to how Pluto’s transit through Capricorn revealed Capricornian shadow themes, Pluto’s transit through Aquarius will highlight the dark side of Aquarius. For a more in-depth look at this significant collective shift, read our blogpost here: Pluto in Aquarius 2023-2044: A Transformation of Ideals.

Saturn enters Aquarius
After two or so years in Aquarius, Saturn enters the mutable water sign, Pisces, on March 7 2023, 5:34 am. Saturn’s transit through Aquarius saw the Covid-19 pandemic, an overwhelming upsurge in the global Black Lives Matter movement. It also revealed corruption, abuse and sexual misconduct in traditional power structures.

In Pisces, however, Saturn is a bit lost at sea. Pisces’ Neptunian immateriality is basically antithetical to Saturn’s earthy desire to build. Neptune dreams and turns inward; Saturn sees itself in the context of the society and materializes outward. On one hand, we may see the materialization of our dreams. On the other, we may experience the dissolution of long upheld-structures that we take for granted. For a more in-depth look at Saturn’s 2-3 year transit through Pisces, read our blogpost here: Saturn in Pisces 2023-2025: The Manifestation of Dreams

Jupiter Enters Taurus

Jupiter changes signs about once every year and a half. Similarly to Saturn, Jupiter’s ingress into Taurus is a relatively temporary shift compared to Pluto’s monumental change. But, it marks a new mini-era nonetheless. Jupiter in Taurus will bring expansion in the realm of food, agriculture, body image, private property, artistic expression, and finances. Jupiter in Taurus brings an abundance mindset and fertility in mind, body, earth and spirit. This transit will strengthen our self-image, self-worth, and self-esteem.

Eclipses in 2023: Taurus/Scorpio to Aries/Libra
The Eclipses of 2023 shift from the nodal axis of Taurus/Scorpio to Aries/Libra. We experience 4 eclipses per year. Eclipses serve to show us our shadow. Solar Eclipses reveal our shadow via our behavior, while Lunar Eclipses do so by our subjective, internal experience. This year, the North Node in Aries calls us towards directness, independence, courage to walk our own path, not caring what others think, unpretentiousness, gutsy animalism, healthy expression of anger, and action. Conversely, the South Node in Libra urges us to release shadowy behaviors of codependence, people-pleasing, debilitating self-consciousness, superficiality, indecision, overthinking, and passive aggression.

During 2023, Uranus is in Taurus, Neptune is in Pisces and Chiron is in Aries–exactly as they were in 2021 and 2022. This video explains what it means when a planet spends many years traveling through a sign (we call them “planetary eras”) and for these 3 planets, it still applies: Planetary Eras: Outer Planets In Signs In 2020. As we mentioned earlier, in 2023, Saturn and Pluto are moving out of Capricorn and into Aquarius, so that part of the video no longer applies. Jupiter has long since moved out of Capricorn and is now moving into Taurus. For historical context, our videos about Saturn in Aquarius, Jupiter in Pisces and Jupiter in Aries will bring you current.

It will be updated throughout the year with more videos that are relevant for 2023.

Mercury Watch

Mercury begins February direct and moving at a good clip. Take advantage of Mercury’s smooth ride to get things into their best shape before Mercury goes retrograde again. Use this time to develop ideas, initiate and move projects forward, acquire and use machinery and technology, and carry out important communications and negotiations. On February 10, Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn, making it an ideal time to communicate intimately, as well as about problems having to do with power dynamics and hierarchies. Mercury spends most of the month in Aquarius, making it a good time to read about and research ideological writing and the modes of revolutionary thought that interest you, or learn more about technology. To reflect on the recent retrograde, read about it here: This Year’s Mercury Retrogrades.

February begins with the Fixed Air sign of Aquarius, a social, chatty sign. Aquarius is the season associated with the retreat of the dark and the increase of the light: many ancient holidays involving candle-lighting happen in this month. Aquarius is consummately social, a networker, and loves to spread himself thin among all his many friendships. In Aquarius, we are drawn to participate in groups with whom we feel like-minded or a sense of kinship. Individuals with a strong Aquarian side often value friendship above all else. This year Aquarius runs from January 19th through February 18th.

On February 18th, Pisces begins. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac. It is a sign of endings, representing the ocean of all being into which we dissolve and from which we are reborn. It’s hard to talk about Pisces without getting mystical or misty-eyed. Pisceans are the dreamers, the visionaries and artists of the zodiac. Uncomfortable in the material world, your friendly neighborhood child of Neptune would rather swim in the waters of his or her own imagination. And who can blame them? It is a much nicer place to be.

If your birthday is coming, you’ll want your annual birthday reading (called a “Solar Return” reading) to happen in the month before your birthday–because your birthday is your Personal New Year. It’s the best time for setting resolutions, intentions and new life-directions. Get yourself in alignment with what your Greater Self wants for you this year, beginning with knowing what the plan is.

Happy Birthday, Aquarius!

Here is your monthly horoscope for February 2023:

Ceres, goddess of our portals to the physical world, is going retrograde early this month in your 9th House. Juno continues through your 3rd House, bringing social expertise to your interactions with your local and immediate community. Meanwhile, Venus is in your 2nd House, where she is blessedly comfortable, helping you attract material bounty this month. You could also feel more comfortable in your body and experience an increase in self-esteem. This Month’s Lunations

Each lunation (new or full moon) has a feeling-state that human beings will be prone to under it, a general mood.

The Full Moon in Leo occurs at 16º on February 5, 2023. Full Moons are moments of emotional peak, and Leo is a dramatic, theatrical sign. The natural polarity of the Full Moon asks us to consider selfhood and ego versus friendship and community. The square to Uranus suggests surprise and disruption, but this lunation is mostly cradled by supportive aspects. Juno and Chiron in Aries bring healing through directness and social skill, whereas Mars in Gemini brings a healthy sense of detachment and levity. Full Moons are culminations, so you may find that some group activity is under review or up for presentation. You may experience tension in trying to maintain authenticity at all costs. If you have a planet in your chart placed between 11º and 21º of a Fixed sign, you’ll feel this Moon.

“Birth Dreams Grounded in Logic”
New Moon in 1º Pisces on February 19, 2023

The New Moon in Pisces occurs at 1º on February 19, 2023. This imaginative and sensitive New Moon brings a time for dreaming and birthing new possibilities. Saturn in Aquarius conjuncts this Moon, demanding that those dreams have more substance than just wispy fantasy. They must be grounded in the rational and logical. Approaching your baby dream as a logical experiment can yield results and a supportive trine and sextile to the Nodes helps release baggage that might hold us back. Watch our video to learn how to use this Moon to birth your dreams. If you have a planet in your chart placed between 26º and 29º degrees of a Fixed sign, you’ll feel this Moon. You’ll also feel it if you have anything between 0º and 6º of a Mutable sign.

Your February horoscope video will tell you more about these Full and New Moons. When checking your horoscope, always check your Rising sign first, then your Sun sign. Your Rising sign’s horoscope will generally work better.
