Why Barack Obama’s Popularity Is Growing— And Will Continue To Grow in 2009

Barack Obama is currently experiencing an interesting transit.  A transit is a movement of a planet in the sky that affects a planet or other thing in Obama’s chart, inciting change in him.  This one is a movement of Jupiter across his Ascendant, a transit that enhances a person’s self-confidence and charisma and casts a sort of glow over them.  What does this mean for him and his nation?  Let’s take the pieces of this apart and examine each one.

What The Ascendant Means
A person’s Ascendant is like the front door to them.  It is their surface, the mask they wear.  It is the quality of their appearance and it is the first thing you encounter when you meet them one-on-one.  The Ascendant is a powerful part of human personality and it’s one reason why sun-sign astrology doesn’t work very well.  A Pisces with Aries rising (or “ascending”) will be a very different sort of Pisces than one that has Taurus rising.  Since all twelve signs rise every day, the Rising/Ascending sign changes every two hours and cannot be determined from a person’s birthdate alone.  Barack Obama’s Ascendant, which is Aquarius, is the part of his chart being affected by Jupiter.  Obama’s Aquarian Ascendant will make him social, progressive and tolerant towards others, making it easy for him to mix with a wide variety of people.  This is so in his natal chart, before Jupiter even comes along to improve things.

What Jupiter Means
Jolly Jupiter is the bringer of good luck.  Natives of his sign, Sagittarius, know that luck is not a matter of happenstance, it is a natural outgrowth of Jupiterian ways of being, such as gregariousness, optimism, cheerfulness and being open to possibilities.  Opportunities have a way of popping up when Jupiter is around and the smart individual will jump on them.

What It Means When Jupiter Crosses The Ascendant
When Jupiter crosses a person’s Ascendant, they embody and express Jupiterian traits.  During this transit Obama will naturally radiate charisma and easily engender confidence in others.  It’s a time when he’s likely to feel confident and expansive and thus be “lucky” and have others respond well to him.  Things just seem to go his way.  Everyone experiences this transit once every twelve years and if Obama were here in my office, I would ask him what he experienced twelve years ago, the last time Jupiter crossed his Ascendant.  This year’s events could well hearken back to that period.

Timing
This transit has three passes, the first as Jupiter crosses Obama’s Ascendant in a forward-moving direction, the second as Jupiter crosses it again while moving backward (retrograde) and the third and final forward-moving pass.  Each pass should beef up his popularity.
Pass 1:  March 26-31, 2009  (Jupiter is direct, or forward-moving)
Pass 2:  Sept 10-20, 2009  (Jupiter is retrograde, or backward-moving)
Pass 3:  Nov 5-15, 2009  (Jupiter is direct, or forward-moving)

Why Do We Care?
Having a lucky, charismatic leader is good for a country because that leader stands for us in world politics.  In the case of Obama, we get the benefit of a representative who right now is particularly persuasive on our behalf and engenders friendship between the U.S.A. and other nations.

It’s Good To Be The King, Uh . . . President
In particular, this transit should greatly help President Obama’s diplomatic endeavors.  He will more easily be able to establish goodwill, maintain rapport and inspire confidence in world leaders he meets with personally and such international meetings held during the three passes listed above should go well for him and by extension for us his citizens.  This will help him to restore peace and forward a benevolent agenda for United States foreign policy.  Jupiter’s present placement in Aquarius puts an emphasis on brotherhood and democracy.  As long as President Obama stands as a voice for many voices, and has the character to back up Jupiter’s glowy promise, his endeavors will likely meet with success.
