Chiron Retrograde 2023: Chiron Retrograde in Aries. The Wounded Healer stations retrograde in gutsy Aries on July 22, 2023. This is Chiron’s first retrograde since July of 2022.
How does a Chiron transit feel?
Chiron Retrograde in Aries feels like the surfacing of an old wound. More specifically, a wound surrounding our ability to know what we want and pursue it. You know you’re having a Chiron in Aries moment when you feel you need to assert yourself but you don’t quite know how to. Or when you suddenly feel enraged, and you stop yourself from expressing it–but then you’re stuck with that rage. Or when you realize that you really need an exercise regime, but you haven’t had one for years.
During Chiron transits, contemplate the moments that trigger you. In fact, if you look carefully, you can recognize that this current pain points to a much older, not-yet-healed wound. Ultimately, through this recognition, you can discover an opportunity to heal that wound.
What is a Chiron?
Chiron isn’t a planet, but a planetoid. Some speculate that Chiron is a comet captured millennia ago by the gravitational pull of the Sun and was probably not an original member of our solar system at all. This contributes to Chiron’s association with misfits.
In Greek mythology, Chiron, a centaur, was a tutor to the gods and known as the Wounded Healer. Wherever we have Chiron in our charts is where we face an ancient, primal wound. In other words, Chiron shows us the nature of our trauma. We can gain much wisdom by healing this pain and becoming healers to others who have been hurt in the same way.
When Chiron Goes Retrograde
Therefore, when Chiron goes retrograde, we enter into a period of deep reflection regarding our core wound. During this period, we experience key events that trigger our core wounds, causing us to question our triggers, and how they relate to previous trauma. Chiron’s story in our lives will aid us in our journey of healing these wounds in the past and the present.
We may experience pain and conflict in the area that Chiron transits in our chart. In some way, we are learning how the same wound tends to reoccur throughout our lives. Overall, this transit will deepen our understanding of our own reactions.
Qualities of Aries
Aries is the first sign in the zodiac. Aries represents our impulses to follow our desires. It is all about action without thinking, reactions, and fully embodying our impulses. Likewise, Aries represents our pioneering instinct in all its forms, and our ability to stand on our own. It is our heroic nature, and our courage as it translates to action and strength. Aries is the primal consciousness of the infant; it knows nothing of society and its considerations.
Aries is ruled by Mars. Mars represents our motivation, drive, masculinity, strength, ability to carry out action, sex drive, and vital energy. Thus, Aries is a sign that relates to the heroic impulse through risk, action, conflict and leadership.
In Aries, we discover the world through competition and initiation. Aries wants things to happen quickly. Additionally, Aries rules the head, aggression, anger, impatience, confidence, honesty, simplicity, and achievement.
What does it mean when Chiron is in Aries?
Chiron is the Wounded Healer, and Chiron’s mission to heal others does strike a chord of similarity with Aries’ heroic energy. However, Chiron’s self-sacrificing healing mission does resonate in some ways more with Pisces than it does with blood-thirsty Aries. Chiron’s perpetual woundedness and inability to heal oneself clashes with Aries’ need to feel strong, as well as for instant gratification. The act of reflection, which is par for the course with Chiron, is a difficult pastime for Aries.
In Aries, Chiron may be extra reactive and it may be difficult to get to the root of the triggers that are activated during this transit. Chiron will trigger a sense of past wounding in the area of identity, militarism, assertion, ‘manhood’, anger, independence, desire and self-interest. Collectively, we are healing our ideas of and experiences of socialized masculinity and maleness.

Chiron Retrograde in Aries: Not Getting What We Want
Chiron in Aries feels like it can’t have what it wants. A native with Chiron in Aries may have experienced early wounding that told them that what they wanted was bad. When Chiron is retrograde, we pause, and consider our recurring triggers through the lens of our thwarted desires and our hesitation to assert ourselves.
During the retrograde, we experience a suspension of our typical way of brushing past our triggers. We contemplate the underlying meaning of our triggers, and delve deeper into past trauma. You may ask yourself, is there room for me to be more honest with others? How can I assert my desires safely without harming others? Do I have difficulty taking action? Am I in touch with what I want?
Chiron Retrograde in Aries: The Wounded Warrior
The retrograde of Chiron in Aries may bring our attention to our issues with anger. Perhaps our fighting instinct backfired on us early in life, or we were the victim of someone else’s rage, and we learned that anger is dangerous. Chiron in Aries may, therefore, result in the repression of anger. In fact, it may even go so far as to repress our ability to assert ourselves to the point of expressing our individual needs and desires.
Chiron in Aries wants to win. It wants to overcome its pain and become whole again. Thus, Chiron Retrograde may in part be a chance to learn how to heal our trauma surrounding the expression of anger. Likewise, we must learn how to assert ourselves clearly, honestly, and non-violently.
