The Best and Worst of Pisces

By February 22, 2016September 21st, 2021Signs: Pisces

The symbol for Pisces is two fish, swimming in opposite directions, an apt metaphor for the ambivalence that characterizes those born under this sign (between February 21 and March 22). Pisceans are the most ethereal and otherworldly people in the Zodiac, dreaming more about what could be than living in what actually is. Visionary and prone to flights of fancy, Pisces folks add a compassionate and artistic dimension to our world. But when are you, Pisces, being an inspired dreamer, or just a cosmic escape artist?

Pisces, at your best. . .
. . . you are endlessly compassionate to every living being in the world. You are capable of a deep, egoless transcendence and tend to look for and value a spiritual connection with other people instead of a solely materialistic one. You don’t get caught up in all of the earth-bound issues that ensnare most people’s focus: money, status, looking cool, etc. Your values are more transcendental than material. This is because you can easily become anyone, and you can fit with any type of partner or become anyone’s friend. It is because of this chameleon nature that you feel so connected to everyone in the universe, because you can see a part of yourself in everyone you meet.

…and at you’re worst…
Feeling like you’re the next Mother Teresa? Well, a transcendental nature can run both ways. In fact, it can backfire into sheer escapism–yup, that vibrant inner fantasy life of yours can manifest into less desirable behaviors such as binge-watching Netflix and finishing another bottle of wine. You can wrap yourself up in a really cushy comfort zone, but it often results in you being unfocused, wishy-washy, and go-with-the-flow even when the flow ain’t going anywhere! Sometimes, it’s hard for you to be the driver in your own life, and you view everything fatalistically and superstitiously. You can be melodramatic and self-sacrificing to a fault, playing the martyr instead of accepting the consequences of your actions and taking initiative. Because you morph so easily, you sometimes forget to ask for what YOU want, leading to unsustainable relationships loaded with drama.

Handling your Pisces nature
Take measures to fully occupy your life by taking it in YOUR own hands. Don’t play the victim by lamenting about how everything bad magically happens to you. Don’t just stagnate in the cushy comfort zone you can conjure for yourself—actively harness your imaginative powers, shaping your visions into realities you can live, instead of just dream about. Get lots of REM sleep, solitude away from others’ demands, and unstructured time where you don’t need to accomplish anything in particular—or watch your escapist tendencies permeate into more serious parts of your life, causing things to fall apart. Use your feeling of connectedness to all living beings to do volunteer or charity work. This will make it possible for you to devote your spiritual nature to giving to those who can give back, instead of sinking it into family and friends who are losers and who just drain you.

Clueing others in about you….
…by telling them that you need solitude—a quiet, peaceful place where you can escape from life’s demands. Insist on taking time for yourself, because your kindness is a valuable resource that should not be depleted. Learn from every experience where your boundaries have been crossed or you’ve been taken advantage of. Set healthy boundaries and let other know what they are. Hold to them in a loving way. Build a spiritual practice into your life—you’ll be amazed by how it sustains you. And let all your friends know that, while you may seem like a follower, a shapeshifter, a morpher, that you do infact lead—but not in material ways. Your leadership is in the spiritual, the eternal realms, which is where you really live. When plugged into the divine and into a moral sense that sustains you, you are a guiding light for everyone around you.
