What does it mean?
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius is about adventure, quests and journeys. When Mercury goes retrograde in Sagittarius and backs up into Scorpio, things get a lot darker and more mysterious, as if the beautiful quest has led down a dark road to places unknown and perhaps scary. Scorpio makes us look inward, instead of the outward view of Sag, and this can be a real about-face. At first, the journey may have seemed like a straightforward, even obvious, thing—now you discover it’s filled with layers of meaning and may prove itself to be deeply emotional.
When Sag (say it “Sadge”) goes wrong, it does so in a big way, just as all the Fire signs do. Sagittarian errors are hard to miss. Sag can be tolerant, generous and big-hearted—or it can just as easily be grandiose, opinionated and proselytizing. And all in the spirit of greatest enthusiasm, possibly with the best of intentions.
Mercury is doing its retrograde stints in Fire signs this year, so it’s a year of backpedalling, apologizing and pulling your foot out of your mouth (and perhaps wondering how it got there in the first place). Have you dismissed someone’s viewpoint? Go back and hear what you missed. Have you unawarely disrespected or appropriated someone’s culture? Go back and reapproach with more respect. If YOU are the initiator of the conversation and YOU are the one to clean things up, you will win respect and cachet with those who surround you and who have come to warm themselves at your fire—not to be scorched.
