February’s Solar Eclipse could constitute a real spiritual cleansing or just some old-fashioned escapism as the Sun descends into the self-disintegrating world of Pisces. Juno in Capricorn and Ceres in Taurus are on hand to assist in the proceedings, offering Earthy solutions to a Watery problem. But how can they help one who is used to finding his answers at the bottom of a bottle? And what wisdom does Neptune, ruler of this eclipse’s sign, have to offer?

Details About This Eclipse

Date: February 26, 2017
Time of eclipse: 6:58 AM Pacific Time
Type: annular (weak in intensity)
Visible in: southern South America and southern Africa.
At: 8º Pisces
Nodal Orientation: Releasing. The eclipsed Sun conjunct South Node in Pisces creates a Releasing (not Initiating) nodal orientation.
Shadow Agents:  Juno in Capricorn, Ceres in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
February 21 to March 3
May 24 to June 3
August 26 to September 5
November 25 to December 5

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event).  You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. The Sun is there, swaying and looking bleary. He staggers into the house, followed by the Moon, who is shaking her head. Close behind them are the North Node in Virgo and the South Node in Pisces.
Moon: I’m sorry about this. He’s so drunk he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Sun: I’m not drunk! I’m hungover.
South Node: You’re not drunk or hungover. You’ve been drinking so much you don’t get drunk or hungover anymore. It’s a perpetual state with you these days.
The Sun starts shaking.
Sun: Really need a drink.
The Moon’s eyes swell up with tears of empathy. The Sun crashes on the couch and the Nodes are both wearing disapproving looks.
North Node (to the Moon): You’ve been enabling his drinking.
Moon: We need to plan an intervention for him. I can’t live with this anymore.
South Node: I wholeheartedly agree. We’re going to need some help. I’m in Pisces so I’m calling in my planetary ruler, Neptune.
He snaps his fingers. There’s another knock at the door and Neptune sweeps in. She’s wearing a long, flowing gown of an uncertain color which shimmers so much it’s hard to look at her.
Neptune: I know the answer! You need a rest cure. What used to be called “taking the waters.”
Sun: Is that what they meant at that AA meeting where they said that I have a hole in my soul that I’m pouring alcohol into?
Neptune: Yes, exactly. You have forgotten who you are. You’re lost and you need to reconnect with the eternal. Spirituality is what will fill that hole. Your very own higher power.
Moon: That’s what I’ve been saying for a long time.
North Node: And if this doesn’t work, it’s rehab for you.
Neptune waves her hand and sparkles come out of her sleeve which turn your home into a spa. A giant fountain filled with healthful mineral water starts bubbling away in the middle of your living room.
Neptune: Many cultures around the world have had a tradition of bathing to cleanse both the body and soul. . .
Juno: (popping in at the door) Did somebody say cleanse? I’m in Capricorn and I think some austerity is called for here. Sun, you’ve got a buildup of toxicity. Time for a body scrub!
She offers everyone a plain, dark robe to wear. The other deities throw off their raiment and don the robes. Juno then hands out jars of scented pumice and shows the Sun a table. He immediately disrobes and gets on it. Juno, Neptune and Nodes proceed to slough off several layers of the Sun’s dead skin, helping to remove toxins from the his body.
Sun: Ow! Wow!
You: Does that feel great or terrible?
Sun: Wow! Both!
He is squirming under the forceful hold of the other gods who continue scrubbing at him until he’s quite red.
You: Um, all this nakedness is making me uncomfortable—
Neptune: We’re gods. Do you think we care about that?
Ceres (popping her head in at the door): Did someone say body scrub? I’m always up for one of those. And I’ve brought something nice for you, Sun.
Ceres in Taurus steps in. She has brought a giant tureen of chicken noodle soup she has spent hours preparing.
Ceres: I cooked a bone broth and made soup from it just for you, Sun! It’s a panacea passed down to me by my great grandmother.
You: Do goddesses have great grandmothers?
Sun: I can see I’m outnumbered here so maybe I should just surrender.
He picks up a spoon and begins digging into the soup.
Sun: Wow, this is delicious! I can’t think when was the last time I enjoyed actual food.
Moon: Yeah, take a break, Sun! You shine on the world every day but when do you get to rest?
Just then, the Sun begins to go dark.
Sun: It’s starting!
Neptune: Get him to the pool, everybody!
Moon and Neptune help him over to the pool and ease him into the warm water. The Sun sizzles and crackles a bit as he drops into the water, which warms from him being in it, making a delicious bath for everyone to enjoy. Everyone else also disrobes and steps into the hot pool, including you, despite your embarrassment, which no one seems to share. You’ve never felt anything so relaxing and the hot water makes you want to melt right down to your bones.
Sun: I’m feeling a deep sense of gratitude that all of you are in my life. And I’m feeling truly cleansed. Now, how about a drink to celebrate?
All the other planets shake their heads.
Moon: Sometimes a stressful square works better than a harmonious trine or sextile.
Juno: Yeah, if we were harder on him, it might have had some lasting impact.
Ceres: Perhaps he just wanted the attention. He is the Sun, after all, and always was something of an egomaniac.
All the planets rise from the water in a single motion, and grab Sun by the arms.
Sun: What now? Where are you taking me?
North Node: To rehab. You’re out of control.
Sun: Noooooooooooooooooooooo! I don’t have a problem!
And they exit your home en masse, dragging the Sun with them.

The symbol for Pisces is two fish, swimming in opposite directions, an apt metaphor for the ambivalence that characterizes those born under this sign (between February 21 and March 22). Pisceans are the most ethereal and otherworldly people in the Zodiac, dreaming more about what could be than living in what actually is. Visionary and prone to flights of fancy, Pisces folks add a compassionate and artistic dimension to our world. But when are you, Pisces, being an inspired dreamer, or just a cosmic escape artist?

Pisces, at your best. . .
. . . you are endlessly compassionate to every living being in the world. You are capable of a deep, egoless transcendence and tend to look for and value a spiritual connection with other people instead of a solely materialistic one. You don’t get caught up in all of the earth-bound issues that ensnare most people’s focus: money, status, looking cool, etc. Your values are more transcendental than material. This is because you can easily become anyone, and you can fit with any type of partner or become anyone’s friend. It is because of this chameleon nature that you feel so connected to everyone in the universe, because you can see a part of yourself in everyone you meet.

…and at you’re worst…
Feeling like you’re the next Mother Teresa? Well, a transcendental nature can run both ways. In fact, it can backfire into sheer escapism–yup, that vibrant inner fantasy life of yours can manifest into less desirable behaviors such as binge-watching Netflix and finishing another bottle of wine. You can wrap yourself up in a really cushy comfort zone, but it often results in you being unfocused, wishy-washy, and go-with-the-flow even when the flow ain’t going anywhere! Sometimes, it’s hard for you to be the driver in your own life, and you view everything fatalistically and superstitiously. You can be melodramatic and self-sacrificing to a fault, playing the martyr instead of accepting the consequences of your actions and taking initiative. Because you morph so easily, you sometimes forget to ask for what YOU want, leading to unsustainable relationships loaded with drama.

Handling your Pisces nature
Take measures to fully occupy your life by taking it in YOUR own hands. Don’t play the victim by lamenting about how everything bad magically happens to you. Don’t just stagnate in the cushy comfort zone you can conjure for yourself—actively harness your imaginative powers, shaping your visions into realities you can live, instead of just dream about. Get lots of REM sleep, solitude away from others’ demands, and unstructured time where you don’t need to accomplish anything in particular—or watch your escapist tendencies permeate into more serious parts of your life, causing things to fall apart. Use your feeling of connectedness to all living beings to do volunteer or charity work. This will make it possible for you to devote your spiritual nature to giving to those who can give back, instead of sinking it into family and friends who are losers and who just drain you.

Clueing others in about you….
…by telling them that you need solitude—a quiet, peaceful place where you can escape from life’s demands. Insist on taking time for yourself, because your kindness is a valuable resource that should not be depleted. Learn from every experience where your boundaries have been crossed or you’ve been taken advantage of. Set healthy boundaries and let other know what they are. Hold to them in a loving way. Build a spiritual practice into your life—you’ll be amazed by how it sustains you. And let all your friends know that, while you may seem like a follower, a shapeshifter, a morpher, that you do infact lead—but not in material ways. Your leadership is in the spiritual, the eternal realms, which is where you really live. When plugged into the divine and into a moral sense that sustains you, you are a guiding light for everyone around you.

This year, Saturn enters into a square with Neptune, which lasts almost a year and spans 7 to 12 degrees of Mutable signs, affecting those with Sun in Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini and Virgo everywhere. Neptune is the planet of dreams and visions while Saturn rules constriction and fear. What could this stressful planetary aspect mean? The script at the bottom of this page describes one way it could go, but first, how will you know if this even matters to you?

Does this transit affect you?

If you were born within the following dates, you will feel this transit strongly:
Feb 25 through March 3 of any year
May 28 through June 3 of any year
August 30 through September 5 of any year
November 29 through December 5 of any year

This post is for you if. . .

  • You’re trying to get clear on your career vision and put it into practice
  • You have difficulty manifesting your dreams because your mind fearfully asks “but how do I get there?” and “but what if things go terribly wrong…?”
  • You’re ready to live the dream instead of escaping the responsibility

How the Saturn square Neptune works
(this part is technical, but brief)

If your birthday falls on November 26, 2015, June 17, 2016 or September 10, 2016, then Neptune and Saturn will have powerful lessons expressly for you in this birthday year.

Saturn will square Neptune 3 times this year. The first pass happens on November 26, 2015, while Saturn is direct at 7º Sagittarius and Neptune (also direct) is at 7º Pisces. If you have anything in 7º of a Mutable sign–like your Sun, Moon or Ascendant, etc –you will feel this (see diagram for pass 1).

Saturn square Neptune, pass 1

The second pass happens on June 17, 2016, while Saturn and Neptune are both retrograde and at 12º of their signs. If you have anything in 12º of Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini or VIrgo, you will feel this (see diagram for pass 2).

Saturn square Neptune, pass 2

The third pass is where this transit ends, on September 10, 2016 with Saturn direct at 10º Sagittarius while Neptune is still retrograde in 10º Pisces. This will affect you if you have anything in 10º of a Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini or Virgo (see diagram for pass 3).

Saturn square Neptune, pass 3

What could this stressful planetary aspect mean?
The following story illustrates one way it could go. . .

Neptune is floating along on a cloud of dreams, idly making multicolored waterfalls and pretty sparkle patterns in the air. She has just made a very satisfying sky painting when the cloud she’s wafting on encounters Saturn. Saturn is packing 10 suitcases and weeping.
Neptune: What are you doing, Saturn? Why are you crying?
Saturn: (wiping a tear) I have to go on a trip and I’m trying to get organized. I’m SO overwhelmed.
Neptune: I’m really good at envisioning things. Tell me about your trip and I’ll make the mental pictures that can help you get organized.
Saturn: Well I have to visit 3 countries, all of which have different weather and speak 3 different languages. In Sagittarius I have to practice being a world traveler, but to tell you the truth, I’m afraid of heights, big places and going outside.
Neptune: But just imagine the fabulous views you’ll see in an airplane!
Neptune grabs some cloud-stuff in her hands, sprinkles a sparkly dust into it from her sleeve and a vision appears—of distant landscapes viewed from high above.
Saturn: You’re going to make me ill!
Neptune: And imagine all the fun you’ll have meeting people who are new and different!
She conjures an image of a variety of people, dressed in exotic costumes and of many ethnicities.
Saturn: You mean all those strange people with strange customs and places where I’ll be out of my element?
Neptune: And imagine all the amazing sights you’ll see in far-off lands!
She shows him the Sphinx, the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China and the Grand Canyon. Upon seeing the Grand Canyon, he turns a little green.
Saturn: I really just want to crawl into a hole. A small one. Where I don’t have to go outside at all.
Neptune: That can be arranged.
Suddenly, with a gesture, they are in a dark cave.
Saturn: Wait a minute—I didn’t mean—
Neptune: Remember who you are talking to? I am the goddess of visions, fantasies, imaginings. I make dreams come true.
Saturn: You mean nightmares!
Neptune: Nightmares are dreams too.
Saturn: But this is REALLY dark!  What if there’s a bear?
Neptune: A bear, you say?
They hear a growl emanating from a tunnel leading off the cave. There’s a shadow on the wall.
Saturn: What if the walls cave in?
Neptune: Ah, what if they did?
The walls do begin to move. The space is becoming noticeably smaller.
Saturn: I can’t breathe!
Neptune: Why do you need to breathe? You’re an Earth planet.
Saturn: But I’m in Sagittarius—a Fire sign! I need Air!
Neptune: Be careful what you wish for!
Suddenly they are atop a mountain, wind whistling all around. They sit on a craggy peak, with barely enough room for the two of them.
Neptune: Is this enough Air for you? Enough Earth?
Saturn: Aaaaahhhh!
He grabs onto her cloak, trying not to fall down the icy mountainside.
Neptune: Haven’t you figured this out yet?
Saturn: What is there to figure out?
Neptune: Don’t get caught up in fear. Fear turns dreams into nightmares.
Saturn: I think you should tell that to those frightened little humans down on Earth.
Neptune: I just did.

Neptune in an astrology chart represents the Dreamer, the Visionary, the Artist in all of us. Neptune takes 14 years to pass through each sign of the zodiac, gathering all individuals born in that time period* under the banner of a shared dream, a vision of otherworldly magnificence and beauty. Pisceans of each generation are particularly captivated by their generational dream. Here are the generational dreams and dates of people alive today:

Neptune in Virgo:
Neptune entered Virgo in the end of 1928, returned to Leo briefly in the spring of 1929, then moved into Virgo to stay in July 1929. Neptune in Virgo natives share a practical dream of efficiency and prudence. It’s no accident that these are the Depression babies, born into a time of scarcity, following a time of (Leonine) excess. Hardworking, frugal, they are also sometimes called “The Silent Generation.”

Neptune in Libra:
Neptune left Virgo for Libra in October of 1942. It slipped back into Virgo briefly in April of 1943, then returned to dwell in Libra in August of that year. Neptune in Libra is a beautiful dream of love, connectedness and world peace. This is the Baby Boomer generation, the hippie flower children who came of age in the 1960’s, who burned their draft cards and said, “Give peace a chance.”

Neptune in Scorpio:
This is my own generation, born as early as December 1955, (with a break while Neptune slipped back into Libra in March-October 1956) and proceeding through most of the sixties. I like to say this generation’s dreams isn’t so much a beautiful dream as it is a beautiful nightmare of intimacy and intensity. Called Generation X, (almost as if to say, “after those Baby Boomers we have to name these kids something—but what??”) this group’s dream is intimate connection, no matter into what dark places it may lead us.

Neptune in Sagittarius:
In November 1970, Neptune entered Sagittarius, birthing individuals whose vision is an expanding dream of global unity and world connectedness. This is a generation of ramblers, travelers, wanderers and world citizens, asking “Why can’t we all get along on this blue and green marble?” Called Gen Y, this generation is a small one, but deserves a better name than Y. This generation invented the Gap year (when you travel for a year between high school and college).

Neptune in Capricorn:
Neptune first flirted with Capricorn in January of 1984, but returned to Sagittarius briefly from June to November, moving into Cap for real in late November 1984. I like to call this generation’s dream “A dream of empires.” It’s a serious dream of effectiveness and authority. This generation has been dubbed “the Millennials” by William Strauss and Neil Howe—and they can’t wait to take charge.

Neptune in Aquarius:
Neptune left Capricorn for Aquarius in the last few days of January 1998, returning for a brief stint in Cap from late August 1998 through most of November that year. By December 1988, Neptune’s journey through Aquarius was well underway. This generation are children and teens now and theirs is futuristic dream of progress and technological advancement. I like to call them “the Tech Generation.”

What is your generation’s dream? And what is your relationship to that dream? How can you advance the dream of your generation?

——————————————————

* I live in the USA, so my understanding of generations occurs in that cultural context.

Do you love a Pisces?
Are you a Pisces in love?

Human relationships are complex, layered things.  Every sign responds to love differently and has needs that are particular to it.  Also no individual can be categorized by their Sun sign alone.  Every person is a mixed bag of astrological traits, but an emphasis on Pisces in your chart (or its ruling planet, Neptune) will result in distinctly Piscean experience.  In particular, if you have the Sun or Moon in Pisces OR if you have Venus or Juno in Pisces, this article is just for you.

Are you a Pisces in love?
Who was that masked man? Who was that mysterious woman (didn’t she belong to a French lieutenant a long time ago?) Oh, it’s just you, Pisces, International Person of Mystery. Do you ever feel like you’re just too deep for the people in your life and that it’s a rare person who gets you—and a rare day when you get yourself? It’s because you are not just one person, but many possible people. There are so many directions that call to you that it’s hard to choose. This applies to relationships as well and you may find that you like to try out people. While you may seem impressionable and more like a follower than a leader, it’s really just that you’re on a longer, more late-blooming path than your peers. There’s a lot to figure out in your life, and in yourself, and it’s going to take some time.

How to manage your relationships as a Pisces. . .
Date people who are good for you. Look hard at your dating history and ask yourself, did I date that person because I knew I could be indispensible to them? Because I could shape myself to be what they needed and because I wanted to be needed? Every time you do that, Pisces, you need to ask yourself another, harder question: Was that relationship good for me? You have a unique ability to match the person you’re with and to give them room to be themselves and to support their will. But where in all this do you find your own will? What direction do you want to go? As you age, you become more sure of yourself and make better choices. And here’s another thing: learn to end your relationships concretely, instead of just drifting away, hoping to avoid a confrontation. Practice clarity.

Do you love a Pisces?
Then you must be feeling equal parts yearning and frustration. Why does your Pisces dream so much and do so little? And how did you get caught up in the perpetual search for the real person inside? You must love a mystery. This is a good thing because your Pisces’ puzzles will take decades to solve. Strong marriages have been built on less. Here’s a key: be gentle with your Pisces. When you are harsh, s/he will just float away. When you are neglectful, s/he will fade and seem to disappear. Instead provide loving, supportive structure and above all, believe in your Pisces. If you do that in times when your partner can’t, you will win entry to the inner sanctum. And that’s a downright magical place to be.

If you have Venus or Juno in Pisces in your chart, the chances of you dating Pisceans is very high.  How to handle the Pisces you love. . .

  • She’s a late bloomer. For Pisces, life begins at 40. Let her meander around and try things to discover what fits. She may not really settle into herself until her 30’s are ended. Cultivate her in the meanwhile—the end results will be spectacular.
  • Don’t be taken in by his fantasy of who you are—or who he is. Indulge it, but don’t believe it (do you get the difference?).
  • Encourage her to practice some form of art. It almost doesn’t matter what form, as long as it suits her and she sticks with it.
  • When you must deliver criticism, keep it brief and surround it with loving faith in him and the understanding that he’s doing his best.
  • Her spiritual life is important and if you want to nestle into her heart, relate with her in the spiritual domain. Sharing that means a lot to her.
  • Does your Pisces seem unimaginative? Then something has gone terribly wrong and he may also be quite depressed. To help, begin by gently inquiring about his dreams. Persist at this. At first he may not know what his dreams, his visions are. But when you finally crack open this Pandora’s box, you’ll find he’s a veritable Walter Mitty of fantasies, dreams, imaginings and fancies. Look through this stuff with him as if he’s 8 and showing you his treasure box. Celebrate each rediscovery. Support him to choose one dream and pursue it. Then step back and watch him blossom. This could take the rest of your lives together. And doesn’t it sound nice?

Are you a

“highly sensitive”

Neptune person?

You know you’re one if:

  • You feel everything more than other people seem to.
  • It’s hard to shut out the world.
  • You have a rich imagination—which leads to inspiration but also to escapism.
  • You take on other people’s problems too much—and don’t know how to stop.
  • Caring for those you love is so important that you habitually let your own life go to rack and ruin so you can be there for them.

If so, I’ve got something really nice for you.

Who needs this:
Pisces/Neptune types.

Astrologically this means you if you have a strong Pisces or Neptune (ruler of Pisces) influence in your chart.  That might mean you have the Sun in Pisces, the Moon in Pisces or Pisces Rising.  It might mean you have Neptune in any aspect at all to your Sun or Moon, or you might have Neptune Rising or at your Midheaven.  If you have more than one of these, you pretty much qualify as a Highly Sensitive Person.

Psychologically this means you if you resonate with the first paragraph of this blogpost, whether you know anything about your astrology chart or not.  And if you do resonate with this, I’ll bet your chart has a strong Neptune or Pisces influence.

Why you need it:
Your sensitivity to the emotional states of others comes from your way of being porous, like a sponge.  You are impressionable—any atmosphere you place yourself in will affect you and get inside you.  You may then mistake it for a part of yourself and take it on as if it was yours.  When you live with or work with someone who generates a lot of negative emotions, this can be disastrous.

Every human being generates a kind of emotional bubble around themselves.  Some call this your “aura.”  It’s a kind of energy field.  When we relate with others, we connect with them and merge bubbles to create a shared bubble for the duration of the interaction.  Your Pisces tendency is to equalize the pain inside the shared bubble.  So if someone comes to you looking for sympathy, you will merge with them and try to ease their burden by taking their pain (of whatever kind: anger, grief, resentment, self-destruction) into your own bubble.  You sponge it right up.  It’s REALLY important to squeeze the sponge out periodically, because that negativity you’re feeling might not even be yours.  And if you get doses of negativity every day and never squeeze it out. . . well obviously that’s the cause of any number of emotional and health complaints you may have.

Here’s the meditation:
Squeezing The Sponge Meditation

How to do it:
Get in a comfortable place, sitting in a relaxed, supported position or lying down at a time when you’re not likely to fall asleep.  If you can be in a natural setting, so much the better.  Listen to the recording and follow the instructions it gives your imagination.  At the end, give yourself a minute or two to stretch and begin to slowly re-enter your day.  Do the meditation every day, at least once a day, for 30 days.

Make it a practice
You need to “squeeze the sponge out” on a regular basis.  If you’ve never had a practice like this before, begin by doing it every day, perhaps even several times a day.  After a while (weeks perhaps, or maybe months), you won’t need it as often and you may know the meditation by heart.  In that case, you won’t need the recording anymore and you’ll be able to do it faster.  Then you can do it on public transit or while waiting in line at the bank.

Turning your sensitivity into a gift, not a curse
You’re a natural healer.  You heal through compassion and other people tend to feel their burden is lifted just by being around you.  You are capable of truly understanding other people, even in places where they feel deeply misunderstood—which means you have an in with them.  You can also forgive (not everyone can).  These are beautiful traits and you may have, out of reaction to your sensitivity and out of the need to protect yourself, closed these abilities off.  If you learn to let go of the negativity you soak up, you can live life in the emotionally open way that’s natural to you, like a flower soaking up the rain and sunshine.  You can lead with the imagination, experience deep gratitude at being alive, and move on to enjoying life more and drowning in it less.  A lot less.

Notice how your life changes
Using this meditation can change your life, but not in ways that are dramatic or directly causal.  If anyone is tuned into subtleties, it’s you, so begin to pay attention to the subtle changes in your life that are already beginning to occur after the very first time you do this meditation.

Notice how changes happen in ways that don’t seem connected to this meditation, but simply unfold naturally in the fresh atmosphere it creates in your life.  Your environment will change and with it, yourself.  Watch yourself begin to really occupy your life.  Move in.  Make it yours.  Be a person.  Become you.  You don’t have to lose all the other selves you could be.  Let them roll around in your imagination.

Reclaim your intuition.  Has your intuition been drowned under all the negativity you’ve absorbed?  Have you become calcified in an attempt to protect yourself from that negativity?  It’s time to let all that go and reclaim your intuitive knowing.  This meditation will help.  It’s my gift to you.

Change your world for the better
Pisces/Neptune person, you are the Visionary, the Dreamer and the Artist.  The Force is strong with you.  Allow the fruits of your imagination to seep out into the world and create good.  This is more satisfying than anything and living in a way that protects you from the pain of others actually liberates you to do more good.  Please do, because the world needs you. . . and your dreams.

You probably know that you go through big transitions at times when the outer planets in our solar system trigger something in your chart.  Those planets are Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Chiron, Saturn and Jupiter.  As the fastest of the outer planets, Jupiter moves at a speed that brings it into aspect with planetary combinations already in progress.  When those planetary combinations are challenging, Jupiter can act as the “good fairy” that blesses where others are cursing.

This Happened in 2009
Let me illustrate this with an example. In 2009, Chiron and Neptune were traveling together in late Aquarius, blending their themes of wounding/healing (Chiron) and spiritual expansion (Neptune). This was a really big deal at the time and I wrote several posts about it:
Neptune Conjunct Chiron: Eighteen Months of Spiritual Healing
Neptune and Chiron Ask You To Bridge Heaven and Earth

By May of 2009, Jupiter had joined the party, and I wrote a 3-part series of posts about “Rejoining the Beautiful and Loving Human Family” because this triple conjunction was in Aquarius:  May’s Triple Conjunction of Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter.

In 2009, Chiron and Neptune were causing many people to face a deep, spiritual wound in themselves–with the intent to heal it once and for all.  When Jupiter joined Chiron and Neptune, a quality of hope entered the picture and the burden was lightened considerably.  If you have anything in your chart in 26 degrees of Aquarius, Scorpio, Taurus or Leo, you would definitely have felt this.  Jupiter was acting as your Good Fairy.

So What Do I Mean By The “Good Fairy?”
In the story of Sleeping Beauty (which by the way, is a fairly iconic fairy tale with many properties that fairy tales typically have), there is a “bad fairy” and a “good fairy.”  Here’s how it goes. . .

At the birth of the baby princess, the King and Queen invite all the fairies to a christening so they can bestow gifts on the child.  The fairies show up and shower the princess with many blessings, mostly in the form of personality traits, like Charm, Grace, Wisdom, Wit, Patience, Beauty, and so forth.  They are almost done when the bad fairy shows up.  In some versions, she’s not actually bad, she’s just angry because they forgot to invite her.  In the Walt Disney version, she’s just plain bad.  She shows up in her black carriage drawn by bats, sweeps in and curses the baby princess: “When she’s 16, she’ll prick her finger on a spindle and DIE!!!!”  After the bad fairy leaves, there’s one final good fairy who hasn’t had a chance to give her blessing.  The good fairy says, “I can’t undo the curse completely, but I can soften it.  When she’s 16, she will prick her finger on a spindle, but instead of dying, she’ll sleep for 100 years—oh and by the way, everyone else will sleep too, so you won’t even notice—and then she’ll be awakened by true love’s first kiss.”

Naturally, all this comes to pass and the story ends with a royal wedding, as such stories do.

How Does the Good Fairy Affect Transits?
The Good Fairy can’t stop the difficult parts of the transit from happening.  After all, that would deprive us of valuable life lessons.  But the Good Fairy can fill you with the confidence to get through them.  The Good Fairy is a voice within you that says, “It’s going to be ok.  I can grow from this.  I am bigger than this.  I am strong and competent.  I can handle it.”  You will feel that everything is going to be all right, even if you can’t explain why you feel that.

Your experience of Jupiter as the Good Fairy can differ depending on whether Jupiter appears on the scene early or late.

When Jupiter appears early, and is followed by a crescendo of challenge as the other two, more difficult planets ramp up, it can lead you to bite off more than you can chew, due to overconfidence.  You have to deliberately hold back and also allow that confidence to accumulate, so it will carry you through the part after Jupiter has moved on and is no longer buoying you up.  Knowing that the challenges will continue beyond the period of hope can let you know to approach with more caution than you may be feeling—and that kind of golden information is one of the best reasons to get an astrology reading.

When Jupiter appears late, it can be like the light at the end of the tunnel.  The beginning of the transit is the most difficult part, and you have to get through it yourself, but you’re rewarded in the middle by the arrival of Jupiter, along with a surge of confidence that carries you across the finish line.  Jupiter fills you with hope and strength, as you hear him cheer, “I knew you could do it!  Now let’s finish this!”  Finding out that Jupiter is about to involve himself before he actually does can also give you hope—another excellent reason to find out about your transits for the year before they begin.

Now Jupiter Is Blessing Pluto and Uranus
If you’re wondering why I’m telling you this, of course it’s because it’s happening right now.  This year, Pluto and Uranus are traveling in a square to each other, which began in 2012 and lasts until 2015.  This is a very challenging combination and many people are experiencing it.  It’s putting people through really big changes, some of which are emotional and some of which are intellectual.  The Pluto part is an intense, full-scale metamorphosis, bringing up issues of power and control as the part of you its triggering goes through a death-and-rebirth experience.  The Uranus part is a paradigm shift—a reframing of everything you thought you knew and understood about the part of you being triggered.  You’ll feel this in the area of life covered by the planet in your chart that’s triggered (Venus = relationships, Saturn = career, Sun = identity, and so on).

Uranus and Pluto began their square in 2012 and won’t be done until 2015.  These are only the most intense years of a larger patch of time—when we look back on this, it will probably define the teen-decade of the 21st century, much the way Uranus and Pluto’s previous connection defined the 1960s.  It’s affecting people with planets in 8 to 15 degrees of all four Cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Libra and Cancer).  You can read about it here:  Uranus and Pluto Topple the Great Edifice.

Jupiter catches up with the Uranus/Pluto-square-in-progress and “runs with the big boys” from August of 2013 to June of 2014.  The result is that Jupiter blesses all the people who are struggling to transform (Pluto) themselves and revolutionize (Uranus) their lives.

This year going with the flow brings success and fun:
Astrologers are very good at making dire predictions—but what use is that unless they can also tell you when is the BEST time to pursue new ventures?  I’m just the astrologer to let you know that this year, from June of 2013 to June of 2014 is a great time to start a new business or any project you want to go really smoothly.  And that’s because there is a very auspicious alignment of planets building up in the sky.  I’m telling you about it because it’s approaching its peak and I want you to be able to take full advantage of it before it ends.

The alignment is a set of harmonious aspects among five planets:  Saturn, Neptune, Chiron, Jupiter and Pluto.  Each of these planets has at least two harmonious connections going on right now with others of the batch.  This piles goodness upon goodness so that the summer and fall of 2013 is a very lucky and auspicious time for new enterprises of all kinds, and that goodness flows right into the spring of next year.  Most of this harmonious activity is happening in Water signs, with Pluto in an Earth sign connecting nicely with those Water signs and adding some dynamic tension too.

What these planets are up to. . .
Neptune is in Pisces
, a sign it loves to be in, bringing a tremendous sense of flow to this dynamic.  Because Neptune is involved, we have access to oceanic feelings of communion and connection, and our imaginations are fueled.  Our powers of manifestation and “dreaming things real” is at a peak.

Pluto is in Capricorn and Saturn is in Scorpio.  This combination is called a “mutual reception,” as each planet is in the sign the other rules, making them “mutually receptive” to each other’s agendas.  This alignment is all about power, purging corruption, doing the hard work of vulnerable leadership, and living each moment as if it was your last.  I’ve written more about it here.

Chiron the Wounded Healer is in Pisces, bridging the gap between material and spiritual worlds, carrying information from the physical to the metaphysical planes and back again.  You can take advantage of this through prayer, manifestation and other practices that get you into alignment with your spiritual guidance.

And finally, Jupiter will move into Cancer on June 25, 2013, and will quickly get into trine with Neptune, Saturn, then Chiron, completing the Water circuit.  Jupiter will also oppose Pluto, and bring just enough tension into the dynamic to spur all that lazy Water to action.  Jupiter in Cancer is in its all-time favorite sign to occupy, bringing a warm, nurturing feel and encouraging growth gently, as a summer rain encourages flowers to bud and open.

How does this affect me?
If you have a lot of Water in your chart, this astrological activity should feel really good, as if the rest of the world is aligning with the flow that is natural to you.  You may find yourself experiencing luck and being noticed in ways that don’t make you feel overexposed.  If you have lazy Water habits (such as living in codependent relationships, overpowering others with your emotions or draining yourself dry to serve and nurture others), these habits may be indulged this year and you could end up with no progress.  But if you decide to live your Watery side in the best way possible (by being conscious of your feelings but not dramatic, and being intuitive without being invasive), you could find yourself at the top of the heap with very little effort.

And the really good news is that if you are starting a business this year, or having a baby, you can look forward to your “project” having oodles of good karma.  Some kinds of businesses are better suited to this than others; you can see me for a consultation if you’re ready to know more.

This time period is especially good for:

  • healers
  • artists
  • nurses and caretakers of all kinds
  • midwives, doulas, ob/gyns and those involved with birthing
  • hospice workers and those who to assist peaceful death
  • any job that requires compassion and human kindness
  • spiritual and psychic helpers
  • anyone who works with children
  • financial analysts and investors, anyone who works with debt but especially those who assist people in trouble with management of their debt, including bankruptcy lawyers
  • therapists, counselors and coaches, psychologists, psychiatrists and psychoanalysts
  • hypnotherapists
  • . . . and the list goes on.

This transit runs from October of 2012 to July of 2013

Saturn is hanging around on top of Mount Olympus, when he comes upon Neptune, who is playing with magic energy.  She is casting swirls of sparkles into the air, launching comets of light and beauty, and creating distant explosions of delicious loveliness.

Saturn:  That’s very nice stuff you’re doing there.
Neptune:  Why thank you.  It’s my specialty.
Saturn:  But it could be improved.
Neptune:  How is that?
Saturn:  By making it physical.  Here try this–
Saturn produces a paintbrush and a palette, loaded with colors, and a large canvas, already stretched.  Neptune picks up the brush and dabs it into the paint, swirls color onto the canvas.  The results are lovely.
Neptune:  Wow, this is good stuff.  What is this?
Saturn:  They make it on Earth.  It’s called paint.
Neptune:  Oh yes, Earth, I’ve been trying to get there for ages.  Human beings never listen to me.  I’d kind of stopped paying attention.  Where is it again?
Saturn points down to a very dark area below the rarified atmosphere of Mount Olympus.  They gaze at Earth, a sphere of darkness and tears.  The cries of humanity are audible.
Neptune:  Why do they have to suffer?
Saturn:  Because they’re in the material world.
Neptune:  That doesn’t look very appealing.
Saturn:  Not for someone as idealistic as you, but for me it’s a wonderland of possibility.
It’s a super-dense plane where you can build stuff.  When you build it, it stays for a pretty long time.
Neptune:  What, a couple hundred years?  Not very impressive.
Saturn: Not by our standards maybe, but by human standards, yes, impressive.
Neptune:  There’s a catch, though.  Sure, you can build things, but you have to deal with a lot of limitations, restrictions and (ugh!) hard work while you’re doing it.
Saturn:  That’s true.  It takes ambition to build things and ambition is built on fear.  If people don’t know they have limitations, why would they work to overcome them?  I remind them of those limitations, and the strong people rise to the top.
Neptune:  That’s harsh.  My contribution is different.  I provide a dream-world people can retreat to.  It’s a gentle place where the artists can find solace and fuel their imaginations.
Saturn:  Sounds like a haven for lazy people.
Neptune:  I find physical existence inherently repellant.  My dreams and visions can’t stand the weight of gravity.  They are crushed by it.
Saturn:  I understand.  You and I have very different priorities.  I like the crushing weight of physical existence and I thrive off the necessity for hard work and the opportunity to shape the material world.
Neptune:  Whereas I am uninterested in all things material—they just make me feel trapped and I’d rather exist in the non-physical, where things happen instantly, with just a thought.  We do have one important thing in common, though, and that’s a desire to make things different than they are.  I like to imagine how things could be different, more ideal.
Saturn:  While I like to work to build something better.  And what wonderful things we could accomplish together, if you were willing to allow your dreams to be infected by gross materialism and I were willing to allow my material world to be permeated by lazy, ineffective and purposeless dreams.  If we work together, we could do some very nice things for those people down there.
Neptune:  Point well taken.  Ok, what do we have to do?
Saturn:  Let’s try this, for starters. . .
He reaches out into the air and grabs some of the magic, colored energy Neptune has left there.  With a swift gesture, he shapes it into a block, which immediately turns a dark color and crashes to the ground.  Neptune blows on it, until it assumes a rounder shape and gently lifts off the ground.  It is now a beautiful, iridescent bubble with shape, texture, weight and beauty.
Neptune:  Wow, that’s actually quite nice.
Saturn:  Yes it is.  Now we just need a Human Being to deliver it to Earth.
Neptune snaps her fingers.  A Human Being appears, looking confused and disoriented.
Neptune:  You wouldn’t happen to be an artist, would you?  A visionary, a dreamer, something like that?
Human Being:  Well, yes, I suppose I am.
Neptune:  We’ve got something very nice just for you.  It’s a lovely dream. . .
Saturn:  . . .  that you can make real!  It’s a goal. . .
Neptune:  . . . inspired with true vision!
Dazedly, the Human Being allows the bubble to settle on his open palm.  Saturn snaps his fingers and the Human Being disappears.
Neptune: (giggling) Whatever are they going to do with this?
Saturn:  I have no idea.  But it will do credit to us both.  Let’s make more!
They busy themselves at making a huge variety of the bubbles and wafting them down to Earth, where they burst over the heads of a couple million creative people.

Are you one of the creative people who is getting a download of useful visions this year?  Saturn and Neptune are cooperating to make it easy for you.  This lovely trine between them began in October of 2012 and ends next month in July of 2013.  This means that business ideas that come from intuitive sources can be turned into dreams-come-true.  Now is the time to start or develop a business with heart.  Better take advantage of the possibilities now, while you can!

This year Neptune goes retrograde on June 7, 2013

“Wake up!” says Neptune.  “Recently I showed you that there is more to your life than what can be experienced with the physical senses.  I demanded that you look deeper.  Now I’m telling you again:  it’s time to re-dream your life.”

Today Is A Pivotal Day

When a planet turns retrograde it makes a pivot in the sky and also creates a metaphorically “pivotal” experience for human beings.  Today (June 7, 2013), that planet is Neptune.  It’s as if Neptune is telling us, “You can’t go on avoiding this change forever.  Today I’m delivering a wake-up call.”

In my Rocket-Fuel Your Career teleclasses this year, I’ve been talking about how astrology can help you get on track and pursue a career that’s right for you in a self-disciplined way.  So far, we’ve been focusing on Saturn and things have been rather heavy, but they’re about to get a whole lot lighter.  In the upcoming teleclass, I’m going to talk about how astrology can help you get inspired and find meaning in your career by pursuing what you love and radiating so much enthusiasm that you become a natural leader that others want to follow.  There are 4 ways your chart can help.

Jupiter, the Charismatic Leader in You
The red giant in your chart shows your natural leadership capacity—and any factors that may be restricting it or holding you back.  Jupiter is the planet of abundance, good fortune, hope, optimism, possibilities and sheer luck.  Luck is no accident—Jupiter is strong in the charts of individuals who just seem to have it easy, and (since everyone has Jupiter somewhere) you can learn to do what they do—but in your own way.  Jupiter helps you find your style of authentic leadership and because Jupiter’s great for marketing, promotion and sales, it’s an especially good thing for entrepreneurs to know about.

Neptune, the Visionary in You
Neptune in your chart shows your wishes, hopes, dreams and fantasies.  It’s easy to allow the Neptune side of you to remain a lazy dreamer instead of taking action on your visions, but once you become aware of your dream, you may find yourself caught up in its magic and inspired to take it on.  Neptune also speaks to the dream of your whole generation and your chart shows how you can incorporate that dream into your career, so you can reach (and positively impact) the people who share it with you.

Big Voice/Little Voice
Your chart reveals the natural tone of your Little Voice, the intimate voice you use to connect with other individuals in one-on-one interactions.  Your Little Voice helps you discover the message you are here to share.  Your chart also reveals the tone of your Big Voice, your broadcast-to-a-crowd voice, the one you should use when speaking to inspire a large group.  Your Big Voice is useful for marketing, promotion, sales, and gaining more visibility in your field.  This is another great piece for entrepreneurs and I’ll show you how to separate the two, so you can use each for what it’s good for, and also how to combine them to create powerful marketing materials for your business.

Who’s Your Daddy?
Every field of endeavor has a particular astrological “ruling planet” which brings life-experience, wisdom and very specific timing, offering you a clear path to success in your field.  In the teleclass you’ll have an opportunity to find out which planet is in charge of your field and find out what that planet wants from you.  Then you can cultivate or “worship” that principle in your life in ways that will get you unstuck and help you progress and thrive.

This year Neptune goes direct on November 10, 2012

Neptune has spent the last few months (since June 4) traveling backwards.  Today she turns her face forward and re-covers the same ground.  Why should it matter to you?  If she’s passing through a zone where you have a planet in your natal chart, she’s bringing you a powerful opportunity to vision and re-dream your life this year.  And it’s still in progress.

Human Being is walking his inner landscape.  He is at the docks.  There’s a pier that extends out into the water, into the fog.  There he can just see the shape of a massive sailboat, rising and falling with the swell of the waves.  Waters swirl and eddy.  Neptune and Saturn are there.  Saturn is working on the boat.  Neptune is looking over some maps.  They point him toward the gangplank.  Human Being comes aboard the boat.  Over Neptune’s shoulder, Human sees a patch of the map: “Here be dragons.”

Saturn:  Ah, now that Human Being has arrived, we can shove off.
Neptune:  You be in charge of making sure the boat is sound. I’ll steer us toward interesting visions.
Saturn:  That sounds better than the reverse!
Neptune:  Yeah, I’m not the best at safety.
Saturn:  And I’m not the best at imagination.
Human:  Good division of labor.  Where are we going?
Neptune:  Currently we’re set to go to the Island of Dreams Come True.
Saturn:  Is that the place C.S. Lewis talked about in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader?
Neptune:  The very same.
Saturn:  I seem to recall that was a scary place.  Dreams are sometimes nightmares, and if you have no control over your imagination, you can be led off into paranoid fantasies and get lost in a sea of fear.
Neptune:  Too true.  The ocean of imagination is vast and contains many things—not all of them are safe and not all of them are happy.
Human Being:  If you don’t mind, I’d really like to stick to the happy, non-scary possibilities.
Neptune:  We don’t care where we go.  You’re the one who decided.
Human:  What?
Saturn:  This is your Dream Boat, and you’ve got it set to autopilot.  It’s been this way since you were in high school.  We’re going where you always go.  And apparently, it’s not the happiest place.
Human:  Can I change that?
Neptune:  Of course.  You can create anything you want in this magical time.
Saturn:  If you harness your imagination.
Human:  I don’t know what you mean.
Neptune:  Are all your fantasies fearful ones?  Do you spend your time asking yourself, “What if…?”  Do you perpetually imagine what might go wrong and then try to fix it, instead of imagining what might go right and how to get there?
Saturn:  If you indulge paranoia, we’ll be heading to Nightmareland in short order.
Human Being:  What if what I really need is a rest?  Can we please just take a pleasure cruise?
Saturn:  If you really deserve a rest period, better take one, but you could get so much more out of this.
Neptune:  The possibilities are endless.
Saturn:  But it will take psychological work to make them actually happen in a tangible way.
Neptune:  It can be a beautiful fantasy.
Saturn:  It can be your worst nightmare.
Neptune:  You decide.
Neptune:  Manifestation is powerful now.  Whatever you can imagine, you can have.  You can manifest positive things–big, powerful ones, even if you have a habit of expecting negative things.
Saturn:  If you are willing to do the inner work.
Human:  You mean I have to overcome my own fear?
Neptune:  No, you don’t have to do anything.  You can choose to overcome your fear.  And not just fear—doubt, remorse, cynicism, all the negative feelings that stop you from building something bigger out of your life.  But we won’t force you to do it.
Saturn:  You can stay unconscious if you want to.
Neptune:  You could just go to sleep every night, lulled by the rocking of the boat.
Saturn:  But then you’d come out of this journey untouched.
Neptune:  Your life unchanged.
Saturn:  Nothing manifested, nothing built, nothing achieved.
Neptune:  Just a nice relaxing boat ride.
Saturn:  It seems like a waste.  We thought we’d tell you what was possible, so that if you choose to sleep through it, at least it was your choice.
Human:  Gee, thanks.  So what do I do now?
Neptune:  Keep your thinking positive—
Saturn:  —and pragmatic—
Neptune:  Focus on how you’d like your life to be.  Dream into that.
Saturn:  And practice letting go of fear.
Neptune:  Especially if fear has become a habit.
Saturn:  And trim your dreams down to what is doable.
Neptune:  That may make them smaller. . .
Saturn:  . . . but easier to make happen.  Look, here’s your berth.
Neptune:  Why don’t you relax and think about it?
Human Being climbs into his bed, stretches out, is lulled by the waves and soon drifts into sleep.  Neptune and Saturn smile at each other and tuck Human in.
Saturn:  What will Human do with this opportunity?
Neptune:  Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Saturn and Neptune will be traveling in a harmonious trine in Water signs from October of 2012 to July of 2013.  Read another installment here:  Neptune and Saturn Launch a Bubble of Useful Magic Energy.  What will you manifest during this magical time?

Neptune and Chiron have met on a cliff overlooking the ocean.  Neptune is a lovely lady in sea-green, aqua and deep blue colors, with a long, flowing skirt.  Chiron is a centaur, rustic-looking and worn, but kind.

Chiron:  Who are we healing today, Neptune?
Neptune:  All of them.
Chiron:  What?
Neptune:  You heard me:  all of them.  All human beings.
Chiron:  How are we going to do that?
Neptune:  By getting one person to stand in as Everyman.  Or Everywoman.  Doesn’t matter.
Chiron:  So one human being gets healed and the whole human race benefits?  Sounds like a Jesus complex.
Neptune:  He was one of my own.  He was very good at standing for everyone.
Chiron:  How are we going to find someone that. . . cosmic?
Neptune:  All I have to do is this.
She waves her hand over the waters and drops rise up and become a mist.  The mist flows over the land, leaving dewy sparkles on the trees and rocks.  Soon a Human Being stumbles forth from the trees, climbing the cliff to the place where the gods wait.
Human:  You called?
Neptune:  You’re one of mine, aren’t you?
Human: (nodding)  Can’t really help it.  Everybody calls me a flake, but it’s because I’m lost in one of your dreams all the time.  I can’t seem to stay alert.  I have what’s called “an active imagination.”
Neptune:  That’s right.  Now try this!
She sprinkles fairy dust all over the Human, who begins to appear as a sort of shiny blur.
Neptune:  Your turn, Chiron.
Chiron:  Don’t mind if I do.
Producing a bow and arrow from somewhere, Chiron takes careful aim and shoots the Human in the heart.
Human:  Ow!
Neptune:   You should thank Chiron for that.
Human:  What on earth do you mean?
Neptune:  That’s a primal wound he just gave you.  It’s a gift.  It will make your soul evolve faster.
Human: (sarcastically) Gee thanks, just what I always wanted.
Chiron:  I just can’t get any respect.
Neptune does something funny with her hand in the air, and then the Human appears as even more of a blur.
Neptune:  (to Chiron) Oh, by the way, you’ll need these.
Neptune hands Chiron some special glasses.  They have a rose tint to them.  Chiron puts them on.  The Human Being now appears entirely different, and in fact is hidden behind a huge pink cloud that’s where her heart should be.  That cloud gets wispy around the edges, then tendrils start to form, which curl outward and reach in every direction.  The tendrils multiply until there are tens, hundreds, thousands, then millions of them.  The Human Being has become a nexus of love, a heart for everyone who is alive.  There is a look of deep peace on the Human Being’s face.
Neptune:  Ok, I’ve connected this one with all other humans.  Your turn again.
Chiron rummages around in a bag he’s wearing on his back.  It seems to be filled with medicines, remedies, herbs, medical equipment and other stuff.  He pulls out a small bottle.
Chiron:  Stick out your tongue.
The Human Being obediently does so.
Chiron:  This will sting a little.
Using a dropper, Chiron allows one drop of the stuff to land on the Human Being’s tongue.  The Human Being begins shaking from head to toe, and a change in color cascades down the giant pink aura surrounding her, filling it with a stormy grey, which is just as quickly followed by a restoration of pink, now a deeper, richer hue.  The grey cascades out the tendrils, finding its way into the heart of every person alive, and is followed by the warmer, deeper pink.  It is as if the whole planet shudders.
Neptune:  Wow—that was cool!
Chiron, proudly:  Thanks!  You’re pretty cool yourself!
Neptune:  What now?
Chiron:  I think we can leave this to cook for a while.  Our work here is done.
Neptune takes Chiron’s arm and together they walk off over the water.

Chiron and Neptune have been traveling together in our skies for 18 months, bringing spiritual healing and community in their wake.  Now it is November of 2010 and their conjunction is coming to a close.  Here are some posts I’ve written about it:
May’s Triple Conjunction of Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter
Neptune and Chiron Ask You To Bridge Heaven and Earth

Neptune has spent the last few months (since May 31) traveling backwards.  Today she turns her face forward and re-covers the same ground.  Why should it matter to you?  If she’s passing through a zone where you have a planet in your natal chart, she’s bringing you a powerful opportunity to vision and re-dream your life this year.  And it’s still in progress.

This Is A Pivotal Day
If you are one of the millions of people having a Neptune transit this year, today may be pivotal for you.  Around May 31, you came to realize that some area of your life is crumbling, eroding, falling apart, or that that area of your life is, shall we say, less than ideal.  Since then, you’ve been re-evaluating that area.  You’ve been in some confusion about it, feeling perhaps that it’s muddy or blurred.  Something may be in suspended animation.  You’ve turned inward on yourself to feel into it, either because you want to or because circumstances have forced you to seek clarity.  That area of your life is in suspense and you’re waiting for the right moment to act.  That moment is not today (Nov 6, 2010), but today is when the seed may be planted that will lead to the right moment happening in the next few months.  This day is pivotal in the process of you coming to clarity in your vision.

Today (and I mean this loosely—it may happen as soon as 2 days before or as late as 2 days after today) is pivotal.  Today may be the day you realize your internal quest for understanding is over.  You’ve heard the message the universe is sending to you and you’re almost ready to act on what you’ve learned.  You can now gather yourself to take that action sometime in the next few months (between now and March of 2010).

“What is a Neptune transit like . . .”
During a Neptune transit you feel more sensitive than usual.  There is an awakening of your intuition, a blurring of the boundaries between the world of everyday physical reality and the unseen realms that interpenetrate this one all the time.  Feelings spill over lines into inappropriate places; dreams loom large and the imagination beckons.  Sometimes you have psychic openings as well.  All this is very non-physical because a Neptune transit is subtle and has more to do with internal than external experience, so it could glide right by without you noticing it tugging at your sleeve.  But you don’t want to ignore it because it’s a great opportunity to take advantage of your expanded imagination and to dream your life into existence on purpose.

“. . . and how do I know when I’m having one?”
First of all, you know by feel.  If what I’ve described resonates for you, it’s likely you’re having a Neptune transit.  (If it resonates, but only a little, you may be having a transit, but by a planet other than Neptune.)  Also you should know that while transits of most planets are accompanied by real-world events, Neptune’s transits can be so subtle that they are hard to notice or distinguish from the rest of your life.  What you’ll generally notice during a Neptune transit is a sensation of life in suspense or a sense of confusion for the duration of the transit, followed by increased clarity after.  It’s great to find out about a Neptune transit while you’re having it, so you can use it while it’s happening, because otherwise it could go by and you’d be in a trance.

You can find out whether you’re having a Neptune transit by peeking at your chart.  This year Neptune is covering the space from 25 to 28 degrees of Aquarius.  This will affect you if you have any planet in the space from 25 to 28 degrees of any of the four Fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio).

If you don’t have your chart, or don’t know how to read your chart, you might want to order your own personal Astrology Chart Decoder.  This is a special tool I’ve invented that puts your chart’s details in English, instead of astrology symbols.  Your Decoder tells you where every planet in your chart is located:  the sign it’s in, the house it’s in and the exact degree it occupies.  When you’ve got your Decoder in front of you, check to see if you have anything at all in 25, 26, 27 or 28 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio.  If you do, you are definitely having a Neptune transit this year.  And knowing that gives you the chance to see the opportunity that’s in front of you, instead of being so lost in a trance that you don’t even notice it happening, much less benefit from it.

“How long does it last?”
A Neptune transit will typically last for 1 to 1-1½ years.  Today is just one part of it, a pivotal day in its flow.  The timing of your transit will be personal to you.  It takes an astrologer to look it up—it’s not something I can just tell you in a blogpost.  In an astrology reading you can find out the timing of it and how to move through it consciously, instead of spending this valuable time in a fog.  You can also find out which part of you (i.e. planet in your chart) is being affected by this spiritual change.  Is it Relationships (Venus)?  Career (Saturn)?  Home (Moon)?  Or it could be something more subtle.

“What do I do now?”
Neptune is the Dreamer, the Visionary.  When she comes knocking at your door, she is asking you to re-dream a specific part of your life.  She has activated your imagination and called you away from the world of everyday things into the dream-world, the place where you imagine things before they come to pass.

View this time as a vision quest.  It’s a great time to influence your own future through what you focus your hope on and also to call on your spiritual guidance.  Call your ancestors, your spirit guides, your angels, your totem animals—whatever feels right to you.  Use that imagination of yours, which is so active right now.  Sit in meditation.  Imagine, dream, fantasize.  Notice the subtle currents that are all around you all the time—you are equipped to notice them now more than usual.  Let the images grow blurry around the edges—images without bounds have larger possibilities.  This is an excellent time for a manifestation practice, to make use of the Law of Attraction and bring something into your life that you’ve wanted for a long time.

Also take care of yourself.  Recognize that some part of you has been spirited away but that your body still needs stewardship.  Feed yourself properly, even if you feel like you are sleepwalking through life these days.  You want your body to be in good shape when you come back to it.  In particular, when I say this is a time for dreaming and re-dreaming, I mean that literally:  get enough rest and sleep, especially if you are in the habit of sleeping too little.  Keep a dream journal if you can—your dreams may have messages for you and it may be hard to recognize them until later.  Writing them down will preserve them for understanding at a later time and the process may well sharpen your intuition.

Neptune transits are wonderful for Neptune types, and even if you’re not a Neptune type, this period may make you into an honorary Pisces for the duration.  Neptune types are often flaky and wander through life as if in a dream.  They have a faraway look in their eyes, are distractible and resist the hard lines of the physical world.  They frequently overrun other people’s boundaries without noticing it and tend to have a poor sense of boundaries themselves, especially when they’re young.  They prefer their world of dreams and visions to the world of material concerns and they do best in life when they find a way to bring their dreams into the material world to share with everyone.  So they make great artists and filmmakers.  While a Neptune transit can draw a grounded person into their dream-world, paradoxically it has the effect of drawing a dreamy Neptune person into the physical world, of grounding and strengthening them.  During a Neptune transit a Neptune type can blossom.

Neptune’s Gift
Neptune’s curse (if you can call it that) is the same as her gift:  access to the land of imagination—whether you like it or not.  You’ll have an increased sense of the spiritual meaning behind everything you do.  Everything becomes infused with meaning and spiritual power.  This is a great time to ask questions, to direct them to your spiritual guidance and attend to the answers that emerge.

Your increased sensitivity is a gift from Neptune, goddess of the ocean.  Make friends with Neptune and you will find yourself able to pay attention to the physical world even as your awareness of the non-physical grows.  Oceanic Neptune may be sweeping you away into her vast depths but you can learn how to swim in her waters and that way you don’t have to drown.  And maybe—just maybe—you’ll emerge with a really big fish.

When it’s over, it’s over
After this transit ends, your period of spiritual awakening will be over.  It’s quite possible you’ll have another transit like this in a different area of your life in the next few years (it’s likely in fact), but this one will have passed.  If this period is frustrating to you, be at ease, because it will end, and soon (between now and March).  But also, and more importantly, take advantage.  Use this spiritual opening while it’s happening.  It doesn’t happen every day.

Neptune_by_InertiaK“Wake up!” says Neptune.

Today, that planet is Neptune.  It’s as if Neptune is telling us, “You can’t go on avoiding this change forever.  Today I’m delivering a wake-up call.”  If Neptune is touching a planet in your chart this year, this message is for you and it will have very specific meaning, depending on what planet that is.  That planet, and the part of you it represents, is receiving a vision of what is possible; during this time you’ll be asked to re-dream that part of you.  Today is the peak of Neptune’s wake-up call, but it could happen anytime within 5 days surrounding today.

Initiation Leading To An Inner Journey
Sometime between now and the beginning of last November Neptune showed us an area of life in which we are due for a change.  What she delivered was an initiation and it was our first chance to catch a clue about the spiritual reorientation to come.  That clue may have been obvious or it may have been subtle, but we’ve been shown a way to become much bigger and much more like our ideal.  And we may have to push through some uncomfortable delusions to do it.

The clue was delivered, but did we notice?  It’s human to go into denial.  During the winter we may have said to ourselves, “Maybe I don’t have to do anything about this.  Maybe it was just a one-time thing.  Maybe I can just move on.  Maybe I can get away without paying attention to this.”

Or maybe not.  Today Neptune turns up the volume and gives us a reminder.  “That redreaming you’re going through?” she says, “You’d better get with the program.”  Today, Neptune’s retrograde journey begins and with it begins our journey into our personal land of dreams (and nightmares).  Neptune’s retrograde journey lasts until the day it turns direct, which is November 6, 2010.

Journey Into the Imaginative Realms
The veil between physical and nonphysical realities is thin right now.  If you close your eyes you can reach right through it.  You can enter that place between the worlds where nothing is actual and everything is possible, that magical, in-between place where imagination is rich and you can dream up your future to be whatever you want it to be.  Neptune is the stuff fantasy books are made of.

But Neptune is also the planet of illusions and delusions.  While Neptune is retrograde (until November 6) you will be pulled into circumstances that bring your delusions into sharper focus.  Examine your life carefully—are there places where you are pretending things are different than they are?  Are there places where you are living a fantasy because it’s nicer than the reality you face?  Sometimes a fantasy is a form of healthy escape that helps us cope with a painful but necessary reality, but at other times escaping from reality keeps us from coping and from courageously changing our reality to better match our ideal.

This transit can be great for those who live by their imaginations:  writers, artists, filmmakers and creative people of all stripes.  It can also be great for those who know themselves to be psychically sensitive.  Neptune’s action is gentle and so subtle that it can be hard to notice unless you are already the kind of person who pays attention to your imagination.  This is a great time to attend a dream-group or keep a dream-journal or to do Morning Pages.*

Is This Story Your Story?
If this feels true for you, it may be that you are personally touched by this transit.  Neptune may be triggering a planet in your own chart, thus bringing these themes up for you.  This year Neptune is covering the space between 25 and 28 degrees of Aquarius.  If there is anything in your chart in 25, 26, 27 or 28 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, you will feel this.  And knowing it can help a lot if you’ve been feeling sucked into other worlds and you don’t know why.  Neptune has you in a walking dream this year, because she has an important message for you.  Your ideal life is calling and if you listen to her siren song, this could be the year you make a subtle shift in direction that leads to a whole new future.

What Area Of Your Life Is Being Affected?
Good question.  It will have to do with the planet in your chart that’s being triggered by Neptune.  If Neptune is affecting your Mercury, you may find yourself a little mentally fuzzy and more prone to daydreaming than usual.  What’s happening is an awakening of your intuition, so make room for that.  If Neptune is affecting your Venus or Juno, you may become aware of illusions you’ve had in your relationships.  You’ll want to clear those away.  If Neptune is affecting your Moon you may have a psychic opening or a very active dreamlife this year.  Pay attention to your dreams—they will contain wisdom for you.

But whatever planet Neptune is affecting, you can bet that the dreamworld is catching hold of you now.  You may find yourself more distractible, more prone to daydreaming.  You may even want to sleep more.  It’s as if there’s another you, who dwells in your dreams.  That other you is activated right now and when s/he is awake, you must sleep.  This is normal for a Neptune transit.  Get the rest you need.  Pay respect to Neptune and in return, she’ll make your dreams come true.

Today is a milestone in this year’s phenomenal triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius.  Today Jupiter and Neptune form a perfect conjunction for the third and final time.  This month is our last chance to take advantage of the magic these two make together and they really want us to know that.  Here’s a snippet of their conversation:

Jupiter and Neptune are perched atop their favorite cloud, watching the world go by.
Jupiter:  Hey, Neptune, have you noticed that it’s a really jaded world out there?
Neptune:  I had in fact, noticed that.  Nobody seems to believe in anything anymore.
Jupiter:  Why do you think that is?
Neptune:  Actually, I think it’s your fault.  Advertising, your monster-child, has jaded them and they are so glutted with unfulfillable promises that they can no longer hear the siren song of true magic calling them.  MY siren song.
Jupiter:  Oh, I really don’t think I’m the only one to blame here.
Neptune:  No?
Jupiter:  Definitely not.  You, after all, are always trying to get people to believe in ridiculous, ungrounded, unprovable metaphysical principles.  People are tired of being psychologically overextended.  They want reality.
Neptune:  BUT they want reality to go their way.
Jupiter:  True.
Neptune:  Yet they’ve forgotten that being able to imagine the impossible, which is my gift—   (Neptune takes a little bow)
Jupiter: —and having enough hope to carry through the effort necessary to prevail despite the impossibility of the task, which is my specialty—  (Jupiter bows back with pretend gravity)
Both in unison: —is exactly how reality can be bent to human will!
They do a little dance, then collapse in laughter.
Jupiter:  Do you think anyone took notice?
Neptune:  Probably not.
Jupiter:  Maybe we’d better try another method.
Neptune:  Ok, what do you have in mind?
Jupiter:  I’m thinking of a Peter Pan moment.
Neptune:  I know exactly the one.  I’m with you.
Together they lean over the cloud and address themselves to all of humanity, in booming-god tones loud enough to be mistaken for a thunderclap.
Both in unison:  DO YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRIES, PEOPLE?  DO YOU?  If so, you’d BETTER START CLAPPING!  Because right now, this very moment, is the one in which you can choose to make a miracle.  IF, that is, you want one.  So there.
The two of them roll back onto the cloud and listen intently for a moment.  Then, just when they were about to give up, they hear it:  the clapping, coming from all over Earth, of people who believe in fairies and some other people who maybe don’t exactly believe in fairies but think it would be a better world if we had a few.  Neptune and Jupiter are filled with delight and dissolve into a fit of giggles.  With each giggle a fairy is born and flies off to do good in the world, for all the people who clapped, and even for a few who didn’t.

May’s Triple Conjunction of Neptune, Chiron & Jupiter
Jupiter Conjuncts Neptune: Let Your Dreams Run Wild

Neptune woodcut by BetelgeuxNeptune has spent the last few months (since May 28) traveling backwards.

Around May 28, you came to realize that some area of your life is crumbling.  Since then, you’ve been re-evaluating that area.  You’ve been in some confusion about it, feeling perhaps that it’s muddy or blurred.  You’ve turned inward on yourself to feel into it, either because you want to or because circumstances have forced you to seek clarity.  That area of your life is in suspense and you’re waiting for the right moment to act.  That moment is not today, but today (Nov 4, 2009) is when the seed may be planted that will lead to the right moment happening in the next few months.

This year Neptune is covering the space from 23 to 26 degrees of Aquarius.  This will affect you if you have any planet in the space from 23 to 26 degrees of any of the four Fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio).

When you’ve got your Decoder in front of you, check to see if you have anything at all in 23, 24, 25 or 26 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio.

From May of 2009 to November of 2010, Neptune and Chiron are dancing in & out of conjunction with each other.  They came within kissing distance of a conjunction on May 30, 2009 and will again on November 6, 2010.  Their only true (exact) conjunction will be on February 17, 2010, but since they’re close enough for us to feel it here on earth, I thought I’d better let you know what this is about.

While you are in a dream, you find yourself in a beautiful, ancient forest, filled with tangled trees and brush.  You sit quietly, feeling at peace with the world and your place in it.  Among the trees you spy two beings who must be gods because they are larger-than-life and they glow.  You sit very quietly and watch them from behind a tree.
Neptune is a slim woman, dressed in a flowing garment that is always moving.  Sometimes it looks like water, sometimes mist and sometimes clouds.  As you look at her, you can’t quite get a fix on her position, even though your peripheral vision sees that she is there.  It’s like the way some stars are so faint you can’t see them dead-on; you have to look a little to the side.  She is like that.
Chiron is a little more solid.  He is a centaur, standing strong on his four horsy legs while his naked human torso rises proudly from his animal body.  He seems comfortable with his odd self, which makes you feel comfortable too.
The two are having a conversation, which you are able to overhear.

Neptune:  I have always loved this beautiful green place.  I love how it could be on any continent, anywhere on Earth.
Chiron:  Me too.  What do they call this?
Neptune:  It is the Wood Between The Worlds.
(And if you ever read the Narnia books as a child, particularly The Magician’s Nephew, you now know exactly where you are.)
Neptune picks up her skirts, which go green to match the surrounding leaves and she spins, casting off green sparks of living energy.  Then she laughs and sits on the grass, her skirts gathering around her but still ever-moving.  She reaches out her hand into a nearby pool of water and gently touches its surface, smiling meditatively.

Chiron:  What world is in that pool?
Neptune:  It’s the ideal world of that silly little human over there, hiding behind the tree.
You freeze, wondering how she knew.
Chiron:  She’s a goddess, silly!  That’s how she knew.  You can come out now.  We’ve turned down the volume on our divine presence, so you won’t get blasted.  It’s safe.
You slowly come out from behind the tree.  Neptune is beckoning softly.
Neptune:  Why not have a look?
You:  What am I supposed to do?
Neptune:  Sit here beside me.  Meditate and make your mind very still.  Take the armor off your heart and reach way down into your belly for the last moment of real bliss you felt.  Then, when you’ve done all that, put your hand in the water.
You are nervous, but you obey.  Making your mind still turns out to be harder than expected, and removing the heart-armor is hard too.  After you’ve done those things, feeling the bliss is fairly easy and soon you reach out to the pond.
As your hand slips into the water, you become aware of descending into a beautiful landscape.  As you look around you, you notice it’s just like the everyday world you know, except everything is just a bit brighter and warmer.  There are people in this place, and they are happy—really happy, deep down, not just in a phony way.  You see that they are doing what they love to do and somehow it all fits together.  There is no sign here of all the things you hate and fear:  war, poverty, disease, and the rest.  This is a well-functioning world.  Everything is as it should be; everything is perfect.
You are struck by the disparity between the world you long for and the world you live in and you begin to weep.  You realize that you need to bridge this gap in order to make yourself whole.  With that realization, that there IS a way to this beautiful place, your heart breaks open and you can feel sunlight streaming out from it.  Peace descends upon you.
As you come back to yourself, you realize Chiron’s hand is on your shoulder, touching you reassuringly and giving you strength.

Chiron:  Do you know what you must do now?
You:  I have to create that world, on Earth, in my own life.
Chiron:  Yes, exactly.  You are the bridge.
Neptune:  You are the one, the only one who can do it.  Don’t wait for someone else.  Your world is special; everyone must create their own heaven on earth.
Chiron:  And it’s not a burden, not something you must do, but something you get to do.
You:  Woah.
Chiron:  Yeah, “Woah.”  That’s right.
Neptune and Chiron link arms and stroll away through the wood, leaving you to ponder this.  As they walk away, you can still hear their voices, fading but ringing clear through the trees.
Chiron:  Do you think that one knows what it’s going to take?
Neptune:  Nope, there’s absolutely no clue.
Chiron:  It’s probably better that way.

Neptune and Chiron will be doing their dance in the sky from May of 2009 to November of 2010.  They will make 3 passes.  The first and last pass will be inexact but extremely close.  The middle pass will be exact on February 17, 2010.  If you have any planet in your chart between 25 and 27 degrees of fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio), you are bound to feel this.

If you want to read other articles about 2009’s triple conjunction of Neptune, Chiron & Jupiter, look here on the Trends For The Year 2009 page.

Jupiter and Neptune meet up among the clouds.  If you listen, you can hear snippets of their conversation.

Jupiter:  Neptune, you & I have been dancing around together quite a bit this year.
Neptune:  Yes, but this is the first time we’ve really come into conjunction.
Jupiter:  I heard a rumor you were the Dreamer planet.
Neptune:  Yep, you heard right.  I’d rather live in the beautiful realms of my own imagination than any “real” world Saturn (the Judge) could devise.  And, as Uranus (the Scientist) is fond of reminding me, according to modern physics, “reality” as humans experience it doesn’t exist anyway.  Dreams have a lot of power, as does the imagination.
(Their voices fade, then return)
Neptune:  Something about being around you makes me want to go on an adventure.
Jupiter:  That’s because to me, life is just one big excursion.  I’m for the wide open spaces.  I’m pretty easygoing and I look past the petty details into the big picture of things.  I search for the meaning, so I can develop a philosophy of life that I can live by.
(Their words are fading in and out)
Neptune:  We seem to agree that details are unimportant.
Jupiter:  Yes!  What matter is a person’s intention.  I can be very tolerant when I sense someone’s intentions are good, despite any incompetence or wrongdoing.
Neptune:  Yes, and I have compassion for how others feel, so I try to understand their motivations.  And I never criticize anyone’s actions before I’ve “walked a mile in their moccasins.”
(Once again, there seem to be a few sentences you’re missing)
Jupiter:  Do you think this makes us, in combination, too trusting?
Neptune:  Are you suggesting we’re downright naïve?
Jupiter:  Too apt to see the positive side of things and give credit where credit may or may not be due?
Neptune:  Maybe.  But I’d hate to think anyone would want to take advantage of us.
Jupiter:  It’s kind of beyond me to think that.
(Incoherent chatter here)
Neptune:  When I get my dream factory going and start creating fabulous dreams and castles in the air, you expand them and make them bigger.
Jupiter (proudly):  That is what I do best.
Neptune:  Do you think together we might be capable of dreaming things that are too big to actually come true?
Jupiter:  Maybe.  Quite possibly.  Yes, I think so.  But who cares?
Neptune:  Might some people use those dreams to escape the harsh reality they live in?
Jupiter:  Is that bad?
Neptune:  I don’t know.  I’ve been told I can be escapist.
Jupiter:  I’ve been told that too—maybe together we could be twice as escapist.
Neptune:  But if people don’t have their dreams, what do they have?
Jupiter:  And if people don’t have hope and inspiration, their lives are devoid of meaning, vacuous and empty.
Neptune:  And without vision and hope, some of the best things in human lives would never exist . . .
Jupiter: . . . because people wouldn’t have had the moxie to create them.  Some of the world’s finest works of art and invention would never have happened without imagination and adventurousness.
Neptune:  We provide a valuable service.
Jupiter:  Indeed we do.
And Jupiter and Neptune link arms and walk off into the sunset, where there’s a fabulous Dream Factory making dreams for all of humanity, and everyone’s ship is just coming in.

The Jupiter/Neptune conjunction is official today.  It will be felt through the rest of 2009.  While it’s happening, use the Dream Factory (since they’ve left the door open all year) to your best benefit and don’t be distracted by all the things that could be but aren’t.
