The Lunar Eclipse on August 7 features the Moon in Aquarius, with Mars in Leo bringing up anger, irritability and a tendency to impulsive, possibly warlike, actions and also a dominating feel. Kind of like an overgrown toddler wielding power while in a tantrum! Lunar eclipses tend to manifest emotionally or in “inner world” ways, so beware of explosive feelings and the actions they might lead you to take. Fortunately, Jupiter is harmoniously trined the Moon, which may soften the feel of this eclipse and bring a resolution to the dilemma of centralized versus dispersed power that Leo and Aquarius are caught up in.

Visible in: Australia, Antarctica, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe.
At: 15º Aquarius

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
August 2 to 13
November 2 to 12
January 30 to February 5
April 30 to May 10

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event). You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after). The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. Before you even answer it, you can hear shouting. There stand the Sun, Moon and Mars, all engaged in a fierce argument. The Sun sweeps into your living room first, pushing the Moon aside as he comes. The Sun in Leo is wearing a massive golden crown, which is cocked on his head at a jaunty angle, as well as fine, brocade robes which would suit the palace of Versailles. He stops and checks out his image in every reflective surface, and becomes irritable when people don’t notice him. Mars in Leo is pulled along in the Sun’s wake. Mars has his chest puffed out and his numerous medals of honor are clanking into each other, sounding like a large ring of keys. The Moon in Aquarius, who is being outshouted, persists in bringing her agenda, a huge scroll she is carrying and reading aloud from. The Moon is dressed in a plain gown unlike the finery of the Sun and Mars. Pallas Athene is bespectacled and dressed in a professional pantsuit. She trails behind Mars, but elbows in ahead of the Moon.
Moon: I’m here to represent the people and I’m far more concerned with making their voices heard than I am with looking fancy. You’ve got to understand that the people have rights too! I’ve even heard them called “inalienable rights–to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” You can’t just have things the way you want them. And you can’t just benefit yourself!
Sun: I am the FATHER of these people! Of course I know what’s best for them.
Mars: I’m behind you, sir, backing you up all the way. (He rattles his sabre)
Pallas Athene: Are you guys aware that there are serious outside threats to our nation and our way of life?
Mars: Lemme at ‘em!
Sun: What do you mean? Is it an opportunity for me to look good?
Pallas Athene: Yes, but only if you are serious about doing what’s right for your country.
Moon: Fat chance!
Pallas Athene: (to Moon) Yes, but you are only interested in giving the people what they need, but you probably DO NOT want to rule them! Are you aware that leadership is difficult?
The Moon gapes at this idea
Moon: No, I suppose I wasn’t considering that. I mostly just like to read, and enjoy one of my eccentric hobbies, such as bunny collecting.
The Sun and Mars both hip-bump the Moon out of their way. Mars’ medals clank loudly.
Sun: There! It’s settled. I shall continue to rule!
Mars: Yeah, him!
Pallas Athene (clears her throat):
Ahem! I was actually hired as an outside consultant to help SOLVE this issue, once and for all. Now can I get you two to sign here, here, and here?
She shoves over two clipboards in the respective directions of Sun and Moon.
Mars: To hell with paperwork! My king shall be the only one to rule!
Mars slices the two clipboards with his sabre.
Moon: Oh I’ll make sure this is the bloodiest revolution to date!
The Moon pulls out a powdered wig from under her tunic and places it on her head, a la Robespierre. She begins winding up her fist to strike Mars.
Pallas Athene: Children, children…now Moon, don’t do anything that you’ll regret…
Pallas Athene begins to look overwhelmed. Moon’s fist lands on Mars’ mouth. Chaos ensues in your living room. The Sun jumps into the rumble, wielding his sceptre and swinging it blindly. All four are lost in a cloud of confusion, elbows and kicks.
Suddenly, the doorbell rings. You sidle around the brawl to your front door and open it. Jupiter in Libra marches inside, wearing a three piece suit, and ambassador’s badge. His car, parked outside, has diplomat’s plates.
You: Thank goodness you’re here!
Jupiter: I have just the solution for your political crisis!
Mars: Hey it’s the big man on campus! Who do you think you are?
Moon: Yeah, who invited you to the party? We have enough people fighting, we don’t need one more dissenting voice!
Pallas Athene: Yes, please leave. As you can see, I have this completely under control.
The Sun’s elbow comes out from the melee and socks Pallas Athene in the jaw. She goes goggle-eyed and falls over.
Jupiter: Uhh…yes, I can see that. Maybe I can show you guys this!
Jupiter pulls out a document from the breast pocket of his enviously smart suit. Everyone stops and looks in his direction.
Jupiter: This document can be your new constitutional democracy! Now you can rule, Sun in Leo, but you must do so according to the needs of the people, as represented by Moon in Aquarius. And Mars, you can help protect both!
Mars: I know I can do it! And then some! Just give me a battle to win!
Jupiter: Moon, you’re going to have to uphold your end of the bargain. The people must show up for voting and must stand up for what they believe in.
Moon: Ok, it’s high time we did that anyway.
Jupiter: And Sun, you’ve got to rule wisely and stop grabbing all the attention and glory for yourself. Do you think you can do that?
Sun: Does that mean I get to keep on being king?
Moon and Pallas Athene: Yes!
Sun: Then I’ll try. But you need to follow my lead!
Everyone: We will.
You: Whew!
Jupiter (herds the whole crew ou the door and whispers to you as he goes): We’ll see how long this lasts.

February’s lunar eclipse involves a self-centered Leo Moon supported in a Grand Trine with Saturn and Uranus. These fiery-placed planets are not going to hold the Moon back but the Sun in Aquarius (with help from Jupiter in Libra) has other ideas. The mood is one of grandstanding and large gestures—but does all this sound and fury signify anything? Sometimes a blowhard just wants attention and doesn’t care if the audience is bored.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: February 10, 2017
Time of eclipse: 4:33 PM Pacific Time
Type: penumbral (weak in intensity)
Visible in: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America.
At: 22º Leo
Nodal Orientation: Initiating. The eclipsed Moon conjunct North Node in Virgo creates an Initiating (not Releasing) nodal orientation.
Shadow Agents:  Uranus in Aries, Saturn in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Libra

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
February 5 to 15
May 8 to 18
August 10 to 20
November 9 to 19

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).  You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. The Moon in Leo is on your doorstep, dressed in a fiery orange superhero costume. The Sun in Aquarius is behind the Moon, trying to hold him back. The Moon bursts into your living room, quickly followed by Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is wearing black, including a pencil skirt, and has a clipboard, with a pen tucked behind her ear. Uranus is covered in wires, trying to untangle them. All burst into your living room, where they land in a heap.
Moon (pulling himself out of the heap): And I want thunder and lightning and a big, big spotlight right on ME!
Uranus: I’m still working on untangling these wires I put away so badly last season. Then I’ll get to work on your special effects and lighting. Believe me, this is going to be SPEEEEcial!
Saturn (standing up and smoothing her clothes with dignity): I’m seeing this as the smash hit of the year. We’re going to get an award for this one!
Sun (finally walking in the door, followed by Jupiter): Are you guys remembering that it’s not just about making a splash, but that the critics will be watching and we want to make a good impression?
Moon: This production is MY baby! It’s an expression of ME! It’s going to go how I WANT it to go!
Jupiter: But have you really thought about what the audience wants?
Sun: Yes, have you put out any surveys on social media?
Uranus: That’s my department and I’m all over his social media!
Moon: They LOVE me on social media!
Sun: Has it ever occurred to you that maybe you have a big head?
Moon: No, NEVER! I really am this great.
The Moon in Leo seems unable to speak except in superlatives. There’s another knock at the door and the North Node in Virgo walks in. As the North Node approaches the Moon, the Moon begins to go dark.
Moon: Hey, stay away!
North Node: It’s eclipse time.
Sun: Thanks for coming, North Node. Thank goodness you’re in Virgo and have a sense of discernment. I think the Moon needs your input as a theatrical critic. What is your genuine opinion of this production?
North Node: It’s got a lot of holes in it.
Moon (getting darker): It’s not finished!
North Node: I really don’t think it’s going to be worth paying attention to.
Moon (getting darker still): I’m not ready!
Saturn (standing behind the Moon and propping him up): It’s ok dear, just go on with what you’re doing. Others see you as an authority and you can do what you want.
Uranus (also standing behind the Moon): Be the change you want to make in the world! It doesn’t matter what others think. Especially those stupid critics. They just want to tear you down.
Sun: This is a vanity play for you. It’s not enjoyable for the audience.
Jupiter: I totally concur. This isn’t just you broadcasting whatever you want. It’s a relationship with the audience. They have a choice about whether to watch.
Just then, the South Node in Pisces walks in the door. She’s carrying a scrying bowl.
South Node: Here’s what the future holds.
Everybody looks in the bowl to see what is to come. The water in the bowl is cloudy at first, then images form. Days flip by on a calendar, and a week later, the show opens. A newspaper appears on the following day, saying “the show flopped.” The critic has written an article about the show, calling it a narcissistic exercise in self-aggrandizement, doomed to implode in its own. . . manure. After another week the show closes due to lack of ticket sales. Watching all this, the Moon, at his darkest, flops down on the sofa and bursts into tears.
Moon (bellowing tearfully): What should I do?
Sun: Still the center of attention, aren’t you? Before it was all about your bellows. Now it’s all about your tears.
Jupiter: Are you ready to actually listen?
Moon: Yes!
Jupiter: Think of it as a dialogue. You have a relationship with the audience. What do they actually want to see? What do they need from you?
Moon: I’m having an epiphany. I need to rethink this whole thing. I need to listen to the audience. It’s not about me.
Sun: Yes, I think some THINKING is exactly the point. You’ve been doing, not thinking.
The Moon starts to brighten up again.
Moon: I don’t know how to pay attention to the audience’s needs and interests. Will you help me?
Everyone: Of Course!
Jupiter: We only needed to be invited.
North and South Nodes (in unison): Our work here is done.
They lock arms and stroll out the door while the rest of the group begins brainstorming the next season’s show.

March’s Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse, with Shadow Agents Mars and Mercury in attendance. Mercury aligns with the Sun in Aries, demanding logic and swift thought. Mars cheers from the sidelines in support. But the Moon in Libra wants balance instead of impulsivity. And all the while, the thoughts are flying thick and fast. What to do? Make a mental net to capture all the ideas that may come along this swift, intuitive stream. Do you have a good idea-capturing system? Now might be the time to begin.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: March 23, 2016
Time of eclipse: 5:01 AM Pacific Time
Type: penumbral (weak in intensity)
Visible in: North America, northwest part of South America, Australia, eastern Russia, China, Japan, Mongolia, India.
At: 3º Libra
Nodal Orientation: the eclipsed Moon conjunct North Node creates an Initiating (not Releasing) nodal orientation
Shadow Agents:  Mars in Sagittarius, Mercury in Aries

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
March 18 to 28
June 19 to 29
September 21 to October 1
December 19 to 29

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).

This lunar eclipse falls at the North Node, making this an initiating eclipse, one which is capable of sparking events that can lead to a new beginning. Be courageous and try new things under this eclipse. You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after). The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You are resting at home, when the doorbell rings. Not expecting any company, you walk to the door and curiously open it a crack. The Sun in Aries, and his small, feisty pal Mercury in Aries, come bursting through the door. “We REFUSE to compromise!” they both scream in unison. Before you have a chance to open to your mouth and ask questions, both planets begin ranting. You suddenly realize that once you’ve let unbridled, Aries energy into your house, there is no way to simply ask it to leave…

“I just moved in with my girlfriend, the Moon in Libra,” whines the blowhard Sun in Aries. “And now, my life has been totally hijacked by this relationship! When I was living on my own, I could do whatever I want! If I didn’t feel like washing the dishes, guess what? They wouldn’t get washed ‘till I felt like it! Also, I could come and go every time I pleased, without ever having to check in with anybody!” The Sun was puffed up with anger. His face became redder and redder as he continued his petulant tirade.

“Ever since my girlfriend moved in, everything I do becomes a long discussion. If I want to decorate, I have to clear it with her first. If I want to invite my buddies over, I have to ask her if it works for her too. I’m sick of this! I want to be a bachelor again!”

The Sun and Mercury storm into your living room and plop down on your couch. They put their feet up on your coffee table. You hesitantly offer some advice, “Well relationships can be tough, because they require lots of communication…” but then you get interrupted by brash Mercury in Aries.

“Who is better at communicating than me?” he exclaims as he clearly hasn’t heard anything you have just said. All of a sudden, a text pings on your phone. It’s from the Moon in Libra: “Excuse me, but would it be all right if I stopped by? I’m having problems with my boyfriend, the Sun, and I’m at my wit’s end about what to do with him. I would appreciate some advice about it.”

As the Sun and Mercury whine on about how lame it is to have to talk about everything, they don’t even notice you texting the Moon back. You write: “Of course you are welcome to come over. But the Sun has already beat you here!”

Half an hour passes, and the Sun and Mercury have not stopped talking about how much the Sun is ready to move out from his home with the Moon. In fact, neither of them has even asked you one question about how you are doing. You’ve already begun to sense where the root of the problem in communication may lie…

The doorbell rings and you get up to answer it. As you expected, the Moon in Libra is at the door. She is standing there politely, and has even brought over some flowers in a gesture of consideration. Behind her is Mars in Sagittarius, one of the Sun’s best friends. As they enter the living room, the Sun and Mercury jump up from the couch. “Hey, Mars buddy!” the Sun exclaims. “Did my girlfriend drag you over here? Oh, hey babe….” the Sun says as he glances over at Moon.

Mars in Sagittarius has often played the mediator between the couple, diffusing tensions and suggesting actions that can help things move forward when they’re stuck. The Aries Sun loves his bluntness, and the Libra Moon enjoys his travel stories. They’re both happy to see him, sensing an end to the tension between them.

“Guys, it’s time you two sit down and discuss you problems,” Mars says, as the Sun rolls his eyes. “Discuss?! That’s all we ever do! I guess I have no patience for living with someone else. I’m not much of a compromiser.”

“Oh, shut up and grow up, Sun!” replies Mars in his typical shoot-from-the-hip style. “You’ve been hanging around with that Peter Pan Mercury in Aries too much. He may never want to grow up, but you’d better, if you expect to have the lovely and talented Moon in Libra in your life.” It’s just the kind of directness that the Sun in Aries needs to make him actually listen. “I could never have said that to him,” whispers the Moon in your ear.

“There’s no reason to be afraid of having your independence taken,” says Mars. “The Moon is in an Air sign. She’s perfectly capable of giving you space when you need it. But now that you and she are living together, naturally she expects you to tell her about things ahead of time, because they affect her too.”

For the first time you can ever remember, the Sun is at a loss for words. Even Mercury in Aries can’t argue with that kind of logic.

Mars in Sagittarius continues, “Sun in Aries, you don’t want to be single. You’ve been on your own for most of your life. This is merely a new experience—and there’s no one better than you at trying new things. Maybe underneath all of your complaints, you are just really afraid of something…maybe it’s becoming more mature, maybe it’s losing your independence…but those fears are all ungrounded. You see, Libra Moon isn’t your adversary, she’s your teammate. And with her, your life is so much better. You live in a beautiful home with someone who cares about what you’re up to. What could be better than that?”

The Moon in Libra relaxes noticeably because Mars has cut straight to the point. And the Sun relaxes too. “Thanks, my brother,” he says. “I needed that.” Mercury looks on in amazement that Mars has stated both positions and brought the two into alignment by being soft on the Moon and tough on the Sun. It looks like magic to him. He sidles up to Mars, whispering, “Can you teach me how you did that?” Mars signs him up for a teleseminar on the spot.

The Sun in Aries and Moon in Libra look adoringly into each other’s eyes, then link arms and happily stroll out of your home towards their own, trailing a cloud of little pink hearts.

September’s Full Moon is a total Lunar Eclipse featuring a battle between Vesta in Aries and Juno in Libra. With a retrograde Mercury joining Juno and the Sun in Libra, will infidelities come out?  This one could be messy and you’ll have to talk it through. If you want more freedom and self-determination in the relationship, say so honestly and gently. If you want to take the partnership to the next level, say that too. The things you say, as well as how you say them, really matter here.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: September 27, 2015
Time of eclipse: 7:50 PM Pacific Time
Type: total (strong in intensity)
Visible in: North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, western Asia and Antarctica.
At: 4º Aries
Shadow Agents:  Mercury Retrograde in Libra, Juno in Libra, Vesta in Aries

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
March 20 to 30
June 21 to July 1
September 22 to October 3
December 21 to 31

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).  You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock on the door. You answer it. Juno enters, dressed in the height of fashion, accompanied by the equally well-dressed Sun in Libra, a man with an elegant profile. They sweep into your living room with a flourish. They look quite polished, and both are exceedingly gracious.
Juno: (to the Sun) Is he dawdling again? Where-oh-where is that Mercury?
Sun: He is retrograde, you know.
Mercury in Libra comes in behind them, looking frazzled but with a warm smile. You invite your pleasant guests into your living room to have a seat, and Juno pulls several pairs of knitting needles from a seemingly bottomless bag and hands them to everyone in the room. As you all start knitting together and conversing in the most civilized manner, a loud rapping is heard from the back door of the house.
Juno: (startled) What on Earth?
You excuse yourself and run toward the kitchen where the back door is. The Moon in Aries is outside and is impatiently banging his fists on the door, windows and anything else he can find that will make a loud noise. Vesta is with him. You hear their muffled voices through the door as you enter the kitchen.
Vesta: (to the Moon) Try knocking louder so they can hear you. Have you tried calling them all on their cell phones?”
When you open the door, the Moon falls inside, immediately followed by Vesta, who is wearing a saucy red dress and 1940’s style bright red lipstick.
Vesta: (straightening her overly-short skirt) Excuse us!
Moon: (in exasperation) We must have been waiting outside FOREVER!”
You: (impatiently) It’s been about ONE minute and you’ve made me leave a peaceful knitting circle for WHAT exactly?
Moon: Why, we’re here to cook, of course!
Vesta: (in a throaty voice) You know, heat things up. . . (she turns up the stove full-blast)
Moon: Get a bun in the oven. . . (he pulls out the baking dishes and a mixing bowl)
Vesta: Makin some bacon!  (she digs into the refrigerator)
Moon: Here to spoon!  (he opens the silverware drawer)
Vesta: Tying you up in apron strings! (she approaches the Moon, who looks pleased at the idea)
You: Oh please, must you? Really? I didn’t invite you!
Moon: Bad luck for you then, because we’re IMMORTAL DEITIES!
Vesta: And if you can’t stand the heat. . .
Vesta and Moon together:  . . .get out of the kitchen!
They dissolve into giggles together and end up smooching on the kitchen island. Irritated, you return to the front of the house, where things are a little tense. You seat yourself quietly and take up your needles, while the others glance at you amid the rising clamor coming from the kitchen.
Juno: What on earth is going on back there?
You: (embarrassedly) Oh, nothing really.
There’s a loud bang in the kitchen which can only mean that the pressure cooker has been knocked off the kitchen island. You sigh and continue knitting. Suddenly there’s a buzz from your phone. A text has arrived. Furtively, you read it. It’s from the North Node, who says, “Excuse me. I don’t mean to interrupt, but I heard from my friends in your living room that you seem a bit frazzled by having to harmonize all of your guests. If there is any way I can help you with your party, I can come over immediately.” Heaving a sigh of relief, you text back a grateful, “Yes, please.” Soon there’s a polite knock at the door. You answer it and the North Node is there, wearing an ambassador’s outfit, ready to negotiate peace. She enters your home, shakes your hand politely, and elegantly strolls down the hallway into the kitchen where the Moon and Vesta have been cooking furiously.
North Node: Would you two like to join us in the living room?”
Vesta: That sounds really boring.
Moon: Yeah, I’m really not in the mood.
The North Node grabs them by the collars and they trudge down the hall together.
Juno: (spotting Vesta) I refuse to be in the same room with THAT WOMAN!!
Vesta: How about if I agree to be Second Wife?
Juno snorts.
Vesta: In some cultures, it’s a perfectly normal scenario.
Juno: This is America, and it’s the 21st century!
Vesta: (deflated, sits down) Why do I always have to hide in the shadows, while SHE (pointing at Juno) gets the valid social position as wife? I am so much more fun than she is! Is it never going to be my turn? (She moans.)
The North Node and Mercury have been whispering in the corner. Mercury pipes up.
Mercury: I’ve been thinking about relationships. . .
Moon: Thinking? What’s that?
Mercury: The answer actually lies in the Gemini Man section of Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs. It’s in the final sentences of that section. (He goes to the bookshelf and gets a copy of the book.) It reads, “the Gemini Man needs two loves. Not necessarily two women. That’s a riddle. If you truly understand him, you’ll know the answer to it.”
Moon: Oh I get it! He needs someone with Borderline Personality Disorder!
Juno: Would somebody please cover his mouth with duct tape?  (the Moon looks pleased at the idea)
Mercury: Look everybody, the battle between the Wife/Husband (bows to Juno) and the Other Woman/Man (winks at Vesta) has been going on for centuries. Millenia. You’re just going to have to agree to disagree. AND we’ll have to separate you two.
Vesta: I call dibs on the bedroom!
Juno: I’m perfectly happy here in the parlor. (The Sun whispers in her ear) I mean the (Juno uses air quotes) ‘living room.’ Does it really matter what century and continent it is?Vesta grabs a bottle of wine, then another, then takes the Moon’s hand. Together they loudly sneak off to the bedroom, where more ruckus ensues while Juno and the Sun pretend not to hear. The North Node pats you on the back, while Mercury beams from across the room. Another cosmic problem solved!

This Full Moon (also a Lunar Eclipse) suggests a feeling of persecution. “How unfair!” cries the Libran Moon, while Shadow Agents Pluto and Uranus pick on her. How will she learn to stand up for herself? Fortunately, Jupiter in Leo brings confidence and pride. During this Lunar Eclipse, learn to defend yourself and add teeth to your diplomacy.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: April 4, 2015
Time of eclipse: 5:05 AM Pacific Time
Type: total (strong in intensity)
Visible in: Asia, Western Australia, Oceania, North and South America and Antarctica
At: 14º Libra
Shadow Agents:  Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Leo

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
March 30 – April 9
July 1 – 11
October 3 – 13
December 31 – January 10

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event). You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after). The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a strange sound outside, like a breeze growing into a wind, quickly growing into a monsoon. You head for the door when it is thrown open by the Moon in Libra, looking like a 1920’s starlet wearing a long gown. She throws herself at you and clings to you. The wind blows her skirt around and then suddenly dies down.
Moon: Save me! They’re after me!
You close the door and hold her. She’s shivering. Soon there’s a beating at the door. Through the peephole you can see Pluto in Capricorn, wearing a long, dark cloak and Uranus in Aries, carrying fiery thunderbolts in a satchel on his back. The thunderbolts give off an occasional sizzle that is audible even through the door.
You: You’re not coming in!
Pluto: What, not by the hair of your chinny-chin-chin?
He and Uranus snicker.
Uranus: I mean, really! That’s just plain silly.
Pluto: Clearly, I am to be the villain of the piece, so I’ll live up to the image.
He produces a flask from inside his cloak and drinks from it, then laughs in an evil way.
Pluto: Come out, Moon! I’ve got some flaws to detect in you this time! You’re not as pretty as you look, ya know!
Uranus: Yeah, and I’ve got an angry mob of protesters here who say justice is not as blind as she should be.
Pluto: Maybe we should take out one of her eyes?
The Moon gasps, looks at you and shivers more violently.
Pluto: Which story is this anyway? Am I supposed to tie you to the railroad track, so I can steal your inheritance? Am I supposed to rip your bodice, turn out to be a bad man with a heart of gold and fulfill your sexual fantasies? Am I supposed to put you out for the monster to eat? Am I the monster? Come on, Moon, give me a clue!
The Moon looks confused. Just then, you hear a rumble on the roof and see some soot drop down your fireplace. Suddenly, Jupiter appears at the opening and tugs his large self free of the fireplace, knocking over the andirons as he goes, but not upsetting his dignity.
Jupiter: I’m used to using fireplaces. After all, some see me as Santa Claus. He pats the Moon gently on the back.
Jupiter: Don’t you know Moon, that you are in charge here? Where’s your power? You’re not a victim of beauty, you wield it. Is it a weapon? is it a connector?
What’s the truth and what’s the pretty lies?
Moon: Those two really have me off balance. I can’t find my center with them around.
Jupiter: Rather than hiding and crying about the unfairness of the situation, why not claim your dignity and stand up for yourself? After all, fairness is a two-way street.
There’s a resounding toot from a horn and the door opens by itself. The Sun in Aries strides in, a larger-than-life warrior figure wearing full armor, with battle plumes on his helmet. Pluto and Uranus are still on the other side of the threshold, with a crowd behind them, brandishing pitchforks and axes and suchlike.
Sun: I sincerely hope everyone is remembering this is an ECLIPSE! Of the MOON! A time for us to look at our emotional shadow. And here and now, that shadow is niceness. False sweetness. Empty beauty. Passivity and excess yielding. And it is love without teeth that runs and hides at the first sign of trouble.
He looks very sternly at the Moon.
The Moon has started to look very pale and begins to go dark while the Sun brightens.
Sun: The powers of day assert themselves over the powers of night. Libra Moon, I am doing what you cannot–I am the Inner Warrior coming out to protect you.
He draws a sword and brandishes it at Pluto and Uranus. Uranus cheers while Pluto cowers, hiding under his cloak.
Pluto (resentfully): Like I said, why am I always being cast as the villain of the piece?
The Moon goes entirely dark and disappears. She is only gone for a few minutes before she begins to fade into shape again. When she takes her form again, she strides over to the Sun and takes his sword, then raises it above her head.
Moon: How could I have forgotten? I am JUSTICE! I am the Scales. Where there is unfairness, there am I with my sword.
She grabs a doily from a nearby tabletop and covers her eyes inexpertly with it.
Moon: I am Blind Justice, impartial and symmetrical! I am pure objectivity!
Uranus (aside to Jupiter): She’s something of a drama queen but she does speak sooth.

This month’s New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse, and it’s one to take seriously.  Influenced by Saturn, this Capricornian eclipse has got a heavy sense of responsibility and duty.  We can expect real-world events to result from this solar eclipse, reminders of what we are supposed to do—and perhaps smackdowns from the Guy Upstairs if we fail to do what is right.  Get on the straight and narrow, people!

Details About This Eclipse

Date: January 4, 2011
Time of eclipse: 1:03 AM PST
Type: partial (moderate in intensity)
Visible in: Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, northwestern China, northwestern India.
At: 13 degrees Capricorn
Shadow Agent: Saturn

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
December 29-January 8
March 29-April 8
June 29-July 8
October 1-11

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door.  You answer it.  Saturn stands there, a tough old man with a craggy, weather-beaten face, dressed in a very expensive suit, wearing a power tie.  Cowering behind him are the Sun and Moon.  Led by Saturn, they all push past you.
Saturn:  Well?
You:  Well, what?
Saturn:  I’ve come to administer your test.
You:  What kind of test is it?
Saturn:  It’s a reality check.
He pulls out a scroll from inside his jacket.  He unrolls it and it’s so long that it hits the floor and touches the opposite wall before unrolling completely.
Saturn:  This is a list of questions I have for you.
You:  Um, ok, shoot.
Saturn:  What have you completed lately?  What have you accomplished?  What is left unfinished?  What have you promised and delivered?  What have you promised and not delivered?  How many times have you been late?  Do you habitually do what you say you’ll do or is your word good for nothing?  Have you earned anyone’s respect this year?  Have you met any goals?
You:  Woah—I haven’t even figured out the answer to question one yet.
Saturn:  I’m sure even a pitiably slow human like yourself could not fail to notice that the year 2011 has just begun?
You:  I had noticed that, yes.
Saturn:  Have you made any resolutions?
You:  I thought of a couple . . .
Saturn:  Do you know that most people abandon their New Year’s resolutions only two months into the new year?
You:  Yes, I’d heard that.
Saturn: (towering over you) Did you think you’d be different?
You:  Um . . .
You turn to the Sun and Moon, who are huddled together on the sofa.
You:  Help me out, guys!
They shake their heads vigorously and go back to trying to appear as small and untargetable as possible.  Both are visibly quivering in fear.
You:  Ok, ok, I give up!  I accomplished very little last year.  I forgot all my resolutions before spring.  I didn’t really want to do any of those things.  They were false promises.
Saturn:  That’s what I wanted to hear!
You:  Are you satisfied?
Saturn:  Not quite yet.  Totally aside from what you promised for 2010 and failed to do, what did you actually do?  What are your successes?
You:  I’m really not sure.
Saturn:  Look not at what you promised but did not deliver—look instead at what you actually did deliver.  Those are your achievements—and they are your commitments too.  If you want to know what you’re committed to, just look at where you’ve put your effort.
Leaving the very long test behind him, Saturn sweeps back out into the night, followed by the still-cowering Sun and Moon.

This month’s Full Moon (Dec 21) is also a Lunar Eclipse, bringing emotional intensity even though it’s in emotionally light Gemini.  Gemini’s desire to skate across the surface of emotions may conflict with the Moon’s need to look at emotional shadows during an eclipse.  Several other planetary influences complicate the matter:  Mercury in Sagittarius, along with Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces, leading to a sensation of busyness and many factors to consider.  But if you stay in your head, you may miss the wonder, beauty and depth of this eclipse, so look for the calm place in the center of its storm.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: December 21, 2010
Time of eclipse: 0:13 AM PST
Type: total (strong in intensity)
Visible in: North America, South America.  Its beginning will be visible in Europe and its end in Japan and northern Asia.
At: 29 degrees Gemini
Shadow Agents: Mercury, Uranus and Jupiter

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
December 16-26
March 15-25
June 15-25
September 17-27

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door.  You answer it.  The Sun and Moon are there, with several more deities standing behind them.  The Sun looks a little weak and the Moon looks strong and shiny.  The Sun staggers into your living room and collapses onto the sofa.
Sun:  This is really not my time of year.  It’s just too much effort to light things up.  I can’t keep going all day like I can in the summer.  I get so tired.
Moon:  It’s the longest night of the year.  Soon you’ll get your juju back.
The Sun is already dozing.  Jupiter and Uranus meander into the living room and take the love seat.  The Moon is casting a lovely silvery glow over everything in your living room.  On an impulse, you turn out the lights so you can get the whole effect.
Moon:  I’m full and at the height of my powers.
Mercury pops his head in the door and like a streak is suddenly seated in another stuffed chair.
Mercury:  But you’re going to have an eclipse tonight.
Moon:  Yeah, I know.  I’ll be lighting up the night—until I’m not.
Jupiter:  But there’s always hope, even in the darkest night.
Uranus:  And insights can be gotten—
Mercury:  —sometimes even better when we stop thinking.
Moon:  Merc, I can’t believe I’m hearing you advocate for stopping thinking.
Mercury:  True, it’s not my usual strategy, but I’m always for new ideas, and when you think too much, sometimes the thing to do is stop.  And you’re in Gemini right now—
Moon:  Indeed I am—
Mercury: —so you could use to think less and feel more.
Moon:  I do tend to overanalyze feelings when I’m in Gemini.  Perhaps you, currently in Sagittarius, could remind me of the big picture.
Mercury:  Happy to.  And our old friend Jupiter is always good for that.
Jupiter starts to respond, but the Moon’s glow suddenly dims.
Mercury:  Uh oh, it’s beginning!
The Moon’s light lessens until she is completely dark, so dark in fact that it’s as if there’s a black hole in your living room and the Sun’s glow, which he’s gently emitting while dozing on the sofa, is being sucked into it.  A hush is cast over the room.  You move to turn on the electric lighting, but Uranus stops you.
Uranus:  Why not just dwell in the mystery?  Humans used to experience the full darkness of the longest night.  Modern people now understand that it’s a passing thing and soon over, and you are not afraid.  But you can still experience the wonder.
The hush descends again.  You sit in darkness and silence in the presence of these deities, noticing the magic and that there is nothing in particular that needs to be said.  This brings you a deep sense of peace.  After a time, the Moon begins to glow again, very faintly at first, then stronger and stronger until her full shine is restored.  You are glad you didn’t adjust the lighting because this was worth seeing.  You feel that you have been present for something ancient and true.
Jupiter:  So it seems that the key to this eclipse is “Don’t think too much, but let yourself feel it all and don’t worry about whether the feelings make sense.”
Moon:  Yes, the feelings will sort themselves out, given the chance.
Uranus:  And who knows what startling new insights might come of it?
They all get up to go.  Mercury pokes the Sun, who was quietly snoring.
Mercury:  Wake up, Sun, your longest night is almost over and we’ve figured out how to handle it.
Sun:  Cool.  I’m going home to bed now.  Days start getting longer tomorrow and I want to be alert.
They leave and you feel just a tiny bit of sadness as the cool glow leaves your living room.

This is a profoundly domestic New Moon.  This Moon asks, “Exactly how do you want your home to be?  Do you feel safe at home?  Do you feel supported?  What can you do to make it a better nest for you?”  Mars, traveling through Virgo forms a helpful sextile to the Moon, offering loads of industrious energy to tidy, fix and refurbish.  This is a great time for house projects.  And because this New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse, we are also likely to see our shadows during it.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: July 11, 2010
Time of eclipse: 12:40 PM PST
Type: total (strong in intensity)
Visible in: People in New Zealand, Patagonia, the South Pacific, and parts of Chile and Argentina will see this eclipse.
At: 19 degrees Cancer
Shadow Agent: Mars in Virgo

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
January 3-13
April 3-13
July 5-15
October 6-16

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is mostly experienced internally).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door.  You answer it.  Mars is there.  Before you can even speak, he’s rushed past you and is bringing things inside: a vacuum cleaner, a toolbox, a bucket containing cleaning supplies and several kinds of brooms, mops and brushes.  Outside you can see his van, groaning with construction supplies: jars of nails and screws, aluminum siding, wood flooring, copper pipes, roofing shingles and other sundry building materials.  After a few minutes of lightning-swift activity, he stops in front of you and gives you a military salute.

Mars:  Domestic Industry Team, reporting for duty.
You:  Team?  But there’s only one of you.
Mars:  I’m so efficient, you only need one.
You:  Oh.
Mars:  So what needs doing?
You:  Um, I have no idea.
Mars:  (pushing past you into the house) Ok, so the foundation needs fixing, the drain-pipes need adjusting before the next rainy season, and you could really use a drainage ditch.  A couple of rooms need updated wiring, and you’d really like a second story and some solar panels.  Is that all?  That can’t be all.
You:  Um, I think that’s it.
Mars:  What about your sense of safety here at home?  Do you feel loved?  Are you comfortable?
You:  What?
Mars:  How about some fixes not only to your home, but also to your sense of home?  Does your relationship need fixing?  How about your family?
He starts rummaging through his toolkit.
You:  Uh, sure.  Lots of things like that need fixing too.  Can you really do that?
Mars:  I can at least kick your butt and get you started.
You:  Wow.  You mean I could get a whole new sense of home out of this eclipse?
Mars:  You betcha.  But you gotta be willing to take action.  Just figure out what your real needs are and ask for them.  You need to take the first step.  Help is near, but you’ve got to ask.
He winks and goes back to the truck for more supplies.  You sink onto your sofa.
You:  Nothing like getting the problem and the solution at the same time!

June’s full moon is also a lunar eclipse, and a complex melting pot of influences it is too.  The Capricorn moon likes to keep a lid on all things emotional, while the Cancerian Sun says, “let ‘em rip!”  Toss intellectual Mercury and passionate Pluto into the mix and you’ve got a wealth of contradictory arguments.  Uranus adds his form of irritation and Jupiter just makes everything bigger.  What to do—should we all just stay in bed?  No, just be aware from the get-go that this day is a mass of contradictions.  Make no plans, stay flexible and be aware that circumstances may change right underneath you.

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
March 20-30
June 20-30
September 22-October 2
December 21-31

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door.  You answer it.  The Sun and Moon are there and they seem to be fighting over something.  Several more deities are standing behind them.
Sun:  You can’t have it!
He’s looking relaxed in sweats and a comfortable t-shirt.
Moon:  But it needs protecting!  And I’m the right one for the job, because I’m in Capricorn.
She’s wearing a gray twin set and a business-length skirt, and trying not to look undignified as she tries to wrest the object away from the Sun.
You:  Hey, what is that you’ve got there?
The Sun holds it out of the Moon’s reach and you can see for a moment that it’s your own heart.
You:  That belongs to me!!
Sun:  Oh, you’re the one who left this lying around?
He begins to hand it to you, but at the last moment, Pluto steps around him and plucks it from his palm.  She’s dressed in business casual, much like the Moon, and she gives a wink to the Moon as she grabs your heart.  As soon as she does, a rush of previously-unconscious feelings well up into your chest, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and a little faint.  Pluto stalks past you and makes herself at home on your sofa.  The Moon sits next to her and coos over the heart, which Pluto has cradled in her arms.
You:  Whoa.  I feel so . . .
Pluto:  What you are feeling, my dear, is the rush of pure, unadulterated, undiluted power.  If you had three wishes, and you could have absolutely anything, what would you wish for?  Money?  Fame?  Power?
You:  I want a better job.  I want more money.  I want to be respected.  I want to be famous.  I want to be loved.  I want to be safe.  I want to never worry again.  I want my family to be taken care of.
Mercury pops in the door and occupies the other sofa, next to the spot the Sun has now occupied.
Mercury:  You know what always happens at the end of all those “Three Wishes” stories, right?  You’ll end up using your third wish to undo the stupid things you wished for with your first and second.
The Sun chuckles.  At that moment, Uranus and Jupiter burst through the door and into the room.
Sun:  Where’s the fire?
Uranus:  We’re here to force a decision–
Jupiter :  We’re in a terrible hurry–
Uranus:  Places to go–
Jupiter:  People to meet–
Uranus:  All very important!
Pluto:  Ri-i-ight.  Terribly important.  Have a seat, gentlemen.
Pluto points to the only chair left in the room and Jupiter and Uranus try to claim it simultaneously, then both crash to the floor.
Pluto:  They’ve just gotten into Aries and they’re not settled yet.  Speed freaks!
In the meanwhile, you’ve sneaked up behind Pluto and are now attempting to grab your heart.
Pluto:  No you don’t!
The Moon glares at you.
Pluto:  You’re going to feel all of this ambition.  All of it.  You’re going to feel the desire for power surging through your blood and in your marrow.
Jupiter: (suddenly stands up, looking frantic) What to do?  What to do?
Uranus claims the chair but can’t sit still in it.
Pluto:  There is absolutely NOTHING to do.  Nothing at all.  Just feel it.
Moon:  That’s right, just feeeel it.  Let it move through you and change you.
Sun:  Let it make you more aware of yourself and your motives.
Mercury:  Let it give you pause.
You:  OH.
You stand still for a moment, in the middle of your own living room, just noticing all the sensations, feelings, thoughts in your body.  It wells up from inside you, taking over your mind and senses like a drug.  You are filled up with dizzying sensations of glory, power, grandeur and greatness.  In your mind’s eye you see everyone around you living the way you wish they would, appreciating you the way you wish they would, and doing only what you tell them.  Just when it feels like you cannot hold anymore, you panic.
You:  It’s too much!
Pluto:  Control and power bring responsibility.
You have become very agitated.
You:  Make it stop!
Moon:  You are the one who can make it stop.  Close your eyes again.  Slow down.  Let go of the need to have everything your own way.
When you slow down and notice, the sensations that were dizzying begin to move again, and then to dissipate.  Finally, they have passed.  You find you are comfortable again.
Pluto:  Congratulations—you have acted as a surge protector.
She hands you your heart.
Pluto:  Pay better attention to your desires in future, ok?
Uranus:  And try not to get so wound up.
Mercury:  Look who’s talking!
You:  Um, ok.
Sun:  Feeling them is good.  Acting on them—not always so good.
You:  No kidding!
With that, Pluto sweeps out the front door, followed by the Moon and the rest of the crew.  You are left with your heart, none the worse for wear, and all yours again.

This demanding solar eclipse brings out the tough, career side of us.  Venus acts as its Shadow Agent, bringing in themes of relationship integrity and contractual obligation.  During this eclipse, life goes best if you follow through on what you say you’ll do.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: January 14, 2010
Time of eclipse:
11:11 PM PST
Type: annular (weak in intensity)
Visible in: People in Africa, India, Sri Lanka and southeast Asia will see this partial eclipse. At: 25 degrees Capricorn
Shadow Agent: Venus in Capricorn

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
January 10-20
April 10-20
July 13-23
October 13-23

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is mostly experienced internally).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door.  You answer it.  Venus is there:  she’s an attractive, trim and serious-looking woman in a business suit.
Venus:  Hi, I’m your business coach.
You:  I don’t remember hiring one of those.
Venus:  I come with the package.
You:  What package?
Venus:  The package called “Your Life.”  Freebie.
She sashays past you and into your living room.
Venus:  Where’s your desk?
You:  At work of course.
Venus waves her hand and suddenly you are at your workplace.  She shimmers into existence and tugs her suit jacket down, just like Captain Picard.  She looks so official you decide to pay attention.
Venus:  Ok, time for a drill.  Hup-two-three-four!
You:  What am I supposed to be doing?
Venus:  Working on your relationships.  Your business ones, to be precise.
You:  Why would I want to do that?
Venus:  Because without relationship, you cannot advance in your career.  Tell me about your promises and agreements. How good are you at keeping them?
You:  Oh, pretty good, I guess.
Venus:  Pretty good?  You think that’s enough?
You:  Well, I never really thought about it.
Venus:  And that would be the problem, wouldn’t it?
She produces a very long document, which drags on the floor as she reads it.
Venus:  I have here a list of all the promises you’ve ever made.  Do you know how many you’ve broken?
You:  Um. . .
Venus:  How do you expect people to take you seriously if you can’t take yourself seriously?  Become a person of substance!
She smacks you on the back.  You stagger a little.
Venus:  Integrity, my dear!  Your career depends on it.  You want people to take you at your word, right?  You want them to take you seriously, right?  You are an adult, aren’t you?
Each question brings her closer to you until she is literally breathing down your neck.  She removes a monocle from her pocket and scrutinizes you closely.  This is an uncomfortable process.
Venus:  Mind your P’s and Q’s!  I’m watching you.
And with that she stalks out.

Today’s lunar eclipse places the Moon in Aquarius against the Sun in Leo, pitting the desire for individual self-expression against the group’s need to spread attention out among its members. Mars acts as the Shadow Agent, mediating the Sun’s bid for individual attention with the Moon’s bid on behalf of the group’s needs.

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
December 31-January 10
March 31-April 10
July 2-12
October 3-13

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions. This particular eclipse may bring up emotions relating to the polarity of individual vs. group. The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. Mars is standing there. Funny how he seems to be in motion, even when he’s standing still. He’s a little bit hyper. Behind him stands the Sun, a jolly looking man in a bright orange jacket. And behind the Sun stands the Moon, a mousy woman wearing gray. They all seem to be having an argument between them, which continues as they enter your house.

Mars (to the Moon): Do you have trouble being seen in groups? Do you struggle to get the attention you deserve? Does it make it hard for you to take action?
The Sun (also to the Moon): Some part of you wants to take center stage. You know you do.
The Moon: Yeah, maybe that’s easy for you to say. You’re comfortable receiving attention. But what about all the other people who deserve attention and aren’t getting any? Sometimes it’s important to back off and let someone else get a chance.
Mars: The logical thing to do is to back off sometimes and to start conversations so everyone can be heard. Then there will be room for the individual and the group too. Don’t you see?
The Sun: Mars, you get a little weird when you’re in Gemini. All talk and no action. Where’s your drive, your initiative?
Mars: When I’m in Gemini, I find I have to think before I act. Otherwise I just fritter my energy away in nervous activity that accomplishes nothing.
The Sun: Hrumph. Look, my point is, I’m just not willing to make myself small to make other people comfortable. It’s important to express oneself in life. Individual creativity is crucial to the community.
Mars: Why don’t you shut up and give the Moon a chance to speak?
The Sun: Since you ask directly, instead of covertly, sure, I’ll shut up. Moon, what do you have to say?
The Moon bursts into tears.

Mars: Now you’ve gone and done it. He pats her back awkwardly. There, there—it’s not so bad, is it?
The Moon: I was just thinking of the Star Trek moment when Spock is dying and he says, “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few—or the one.”
The Sun: Outrageous! That’s a ridiculous notion, promulgated by a few who want to interfere with self-expression!
Mars (through clenched teeth): Zip it!
The Sun actually becomes noticeably smaller.

The Moon: When one person’s self-expression becomes too large, it takes away from the voices of others. If the individual is willing to diminish himself just a little, so many more perspectives can be heard!
The Sun: But not at the cost of squashing the individual!
The Sun here gets so large that the Moon begins to fade away. Mars places himself between them as the Moon starts to breathe heavily, as if she’s having an asthma attack.

The Sun (to the Moon): Why do you have to be so passive aggressive? All I want is space to be myself.
Mars: You need a little more awareness of your impact on others.
The Sun: I’m not the only one! She needs to get that groups are made up of individuals, all of whom have an impact. And if the individual is stifled out of fear of expressing himself, the group suffers.
Since the argument has turned into a shouting match, you stand on a chair and interrupt.

You: Quiet, everybody!
There’s silence. You actually have their attention.

You: I want to know why you are all here. Why are you arguing in my home?
Mars: Isn’t it obvious? We have a message for you.
You: You do? All of you? Together?
The Sun nods and the Moon stops breathing heavily long enough to nod also.

You: Well, out with it then!
Mars: It’s that you need to let your creativity be guided by what the group actually needs. Are you giving what you want to give, what will feed your ego rather than what will serve the collective best? Let go of the need to stand out from the crowd. Instead, allow yourself to be embraced by your networks of like-minded people, let your soul find a home and a purpose there. Serving that will fill a place in you that ego never could.
The Sun: Hmm, now there’s some food for thought.
The Moon actually breaks into a smile. The three of them leave quietly, while you meditate on their messag
e.

2009 Eclipses and their Shadow Agents

This eclipse falls in the sign of Capricorn, which means it shows us our shadow in the area of career.  We see our shadows when we are deeply immersed in career-building, ambition or neglecting ourselves for a long-term goal.  Some aspect of our work can show us our shadow during this eclipse.  It’s a lunar eclipse, so it’s marked by an internal, emotionally intense stirring up of feelings (unlike a solar eclipse, which is mostly experienced externally).

Time of eclipse: 2:21 am PST
Type:  penumbral  (weak in intensity)
Visible in:  eastern Australia, New Zealand, South America, Central America, North America (except the extreme north).

Does It Affect Me?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
December 31-January 20
March 31-April 10
July 2-12
October 3-13

The Shadow Agent for this eclipse is Saturn, acting through a gentle, harmonious trine.  Remember, a lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions.  This particular eclipse may bring up emotions in areas of life where you work hard and feel unappreciated.  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door.  You answer it.  Saturn is standing there, an attractive middle-aged woman in a business suit.  She’s wearing glasses and looks tidy and streamlined.  She nods at you and steps in, seating herself as if she belongs.
Saturn:  So have you seen it?
You:  Seen what?
She points to the floor behind you.  There, stretched out on it is a dark blotch which is slithering around your feet.  You jump, trying to get away, but it follows you.
You:  Ick!  Where did that come from?
Saturn:  It’s your shadow.  Everyone has one.  Hey Shadow, wake up!
Shadow:
  Mmmph?
You:  Woah—it talks?
Saturn:  It does more than that.  Shadow, what do you have to say?
Shadow:  I’m strong.  I’m stoic.  I never whine or complain.  I suffer quietly in the background while others get the benefit of my efforts.  No, no, it’s all right!  I can take it—even though my health is failing.  I overwork because I care about the people around me and I care about doing things right.  I work towards a long-term reward and only endure the present because I believe the reward is coming.  I have deferred pleasure so long that I have forgotten how to have fun.
The more you listen to this, the more despondent you feel.  Saturn looks at you warmly, but you feel she is staring through your soul.  Suddenly you burst into tears.
You:  I am so tired!  I work so hard all the time.  It seems like everyone but me gets the benefit of my work.  Sometimes I feel really hopeless.
Saturn:  Do you feel that you haven’t accomplished anything of substance?
You:  Sometimes, yes, I feel that way.
Saturn:  You have, you know.  Sometimes it’s hard to see, but you have.  Here, let me remind you.
She then waves her hand at a nearby mirror.  Suddenly it’s filled with images of all your accomplishments in the last 5 years.
Saturn:  Never forget that you have a great impact on your world.  What you do matters.
You sit and watch the images for a few minutes, remembering with pride all you have accomplished.  The pride fills in some of the empty places in your heart, until you can’t help but grin.
Saturn:  You work hard.  It matters.
You:  Wow, it really does matter!
Saturn (smiling):  Now watch this.
She waves her hand again and a different set of images appears.
Saturn:  These are your blessings.  You don’t need to count them, but you do need to appreciate them.  The more of them you appreciate, the more they will multiply, until your life is so filled with blessings, you won’t be able to help seeing it on your own.  Notice all this in great detail.
You gaze at the images, reminded of all the good things in your life and all that you did to bring them closer to yourself.  You realize you have been taking a lot for granted and that many people don’t have as much as you do.
You:  Somehow I ended up with a pretty good life and never knew it.
Saturn:  Your life is good in certain ways because you made it like that.  Instead of suffering, go out and make the rest of your life good too.
You sigh, lost in thought as Saturn quietly leaves, closing the door behind her.

Remember, a lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions.  This particular eclipse may bring up emotions in response to unexpected kindness from friends, old wounds coming up or some sort of spiritual revelation.  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

There’s a knock at your door.  You answer it.  There’s a beautiful woman in long, flowing garments that seem to change color as she moves.  She smiles at you.
You:  Oh hi, Neptune.  Come on in.
Neptune flows in.  Her voice is musical.
Neptune:  I’ve invited some friends over.
You:  How is it I already knew that?
Neptune:  You are going to love them.
Suddenly, your house is full to bursting with people.  As you begin mingling, you realize that these are YOUR people.  They are interesting and you feel really comfortable with them.  Neptune finds you in the crowd and guides you to a corner where you watch the group together.
You:  I never knew it could be like this.  Every one of these people could be a really good friend for me.  How is it possible?
Neptune puts her hand on your head and as you feel her gentle pressure, a delicious emotion floods you from head to toe.
Neptune:  You’re discovering universal connectedness.  It’s the feeling all religions reach for, the sensation of being one with all beings and all things.  You are not separate.  You are a part of it all and you matter.
You begin to weep a little, amazed.
There’s another knock at the door.  You pull yourself together and push through the crowd to answer the door.  It’s another woman, only this one doesn’t look so friendly.
You:  Oh, it’s you, Chiron.
Chiron:  I’ve brought you something.
You:  No doubt.  Come on in, since you’re going to anyway.
You close the door and Chiron takes your elbow and leads you off to the side, where you can still see everyone.  Neptune joins you there.
Chiron:  Look at all these people.  You’ve been hurt by friends before, you know.
You:  How good of you to remind me.
Chiron rummages in her pockets and pulls out a ViewMaster.  There’s a card in it, with pictures.  Chiron puts it in front of your eyes.
Chiron:  Do you remember this?
You:  Uh, gradeschool.  Pretty painful.
Chiron presses the button.  The picture changes.
You:  Adolescence.  Worse yet.  Why do people have to be so mean?
Neptune: (gently) They aren’t always that way.
Chiron:  Exactly my point.
Chiron reaches into your chest and tears a hole in your heart.  Through that hole, your exposed heart suddenly feels everything even more intensely.  You try to stay objective, but you can’t.  Everyone in the room is looking at you with affection and knowledge in their eyes.  They see your pain and instead of pulling away, they radiate warmth at you.  These people know you, and they accept you anyway.  They seem to trust you and to expect that you will simply trust them.  It’s overwhelming and it hurts to take it all in.
You:  (dropping the ViewMaster)  These people aren’t like the ones from my past.
Chiron & Neptune in unison:  Nope.
You:  Then why does this hurt?
Chiron:  Because you’re healing.
Neptune: (nodding) Growth pains, my dear.
Chiron:  You can stop fighting it now.
You decide to make the most of this opportunity.  Into the wounded place in your heart, you let all the love and knowledge flow.  The rawness and pain increase until they are intolerable.  Just then, like a wave breaking, the pain and joy meet in the middle, creating an entirely new sensation.  You realize you are fully alive.  It fills you up and heals you like nothing has ever done before.
You:  Whoa.  What just happened?
Neptune:  You took charge of your pain.  Know what your job is now?
You:  Um, nope.
Chiron:  Now that you have this connection to all of humanity, really have it in your heart, go heal other people with it.
Neptune:  There are a lot of isolated people out there.  They need you.
While you fall gently into a chair, overwhelmed, Neptune and Chiron slip out the door.
