February’s Solar Eclipse could constitute a real spiritual cleansing or just some old-fashioned escapism as the Sun descends into the self-disintegrating world of Pisces. Juno in Capricorn and Ceres in Taurus are on hand to assist in the proceedings, offering Earthy solutions to a Watery problem. But how can they help one who is used to finding his answers at the bottom of a bottle? And what wisdom does Neptune, ruler of this eclipse’s sign, have to offer?

Details About This Eclipse

Date: February 26, 2017
Time of eclipse: 6:58 AM Pacific Time
Type: annular (weak in intensity)
Visible in: southern South America and southern Africa.
At: 8º Pisces
Nodal Orientation: Releasing. The eclipsed Sun conjunct South Node in Pisces creates a Releasing (not Initiating) nodal orientation.
Shadow Agents:  Juno in Capricorn, Ceres in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
February 21 to March 3
May 24 to June 3
August 26 to September 5
November 25 to December 5

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event).  You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. The Sun is there, swaying and looking bleary. He staggers into the house, followed by the Moon, who is shaking her head. Close behind them are the North Node in Virgo and the South Node in Pisces.
Moon: I’m sorry about this. He’s so drunk he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Sun: I’m not drunk! I’m hungover.
South Node: You’re not drunk or hungover. You’ve been drinking so much you don’t get drunk or hungover anymore. It’s a perpetual state with you these days.
The Sun starts shaking.
Sun: Really need a drink.
The Moon’s eyes swell up with tears of empathy. The Sun crashes on the couch and the Nodes are both wearing disapproving looks.
North Node (to the Moon): You’ve been enabling his drinking.
Moon: We need to plan an intervention for him. I can’t live with this anymore.
South Node: I wholeheartedly agree. We’re going to need some help. I’m in Pisces so I’m calling in my planetary ruler, Neptune.
He snaps his fingers. There’s another knock at the door and Neptune sweeps in. She’s wearing a long, flowing gown of an uncertain color which shimmers so much it’s hard to look at her.
Neptune: I know the answer! You need a rest cure. What used to be called “taking the waters.”
Sun: Is that what they meant at that AA meeting where they said that I have a hole in my soul that I’m pouring alcohol into?
Neptune: Yes, exactly. You have forgotten who you are. You’re lost and you need to reconnect with the eternal. Spirituality is what will fill that hole. Your very own higher power.
Moon: That’s what I’ve been saying for a long time.
North Node: And if this doesn’t work, it’s rehab for you.
Neptune waves her hand and sparkles come out of her sleeve which turn your home into a spa. A giant fountain filled with healthful mineral water starts bubbling away in the middle of your living room.
Neptune: Many cultures around the world have had a tradition of bathing to cleanse both the body and soul. . .
Juno: (popping in at the door) Did somebody say cleanse? I’m in Capricorn and I think some austerity is called for here. Sun, you’ve got a buildup of toxicity. Time for a body scrub!
She offers everyone a plain, dark robe to wear. The other deities throw off their raiment and don the robes. Juno then hands out jars of scented pumice and shows the Sun a table. He immediately disrobes and gets on it. Juno, Neptune and Nodes proceed to slough off several layers of the Sun’s dead skin, helping to remove toxins from the his body.
Sun: Ow! Wow!
You: Does that feel great or terrible?
Sun: Wow! Both!
He is squirming under the forceful hold of the other gods who continue scrubbing at him until he’s quite red.
You: Um, all this nakedness is making me uncomfortable—
Neptune: We’re gods. Do you think we care about that?
Ceres (popping her head in at the door): Did someone say body scrub? I’m always up for one of those. And I’ve brought something nice for you, Sun.
Ceres in Taurus steps in. She has brought a giant tureen of chicken noodle soup she has spent hours preparing.
Ceres: I cooked a bone broth and made soup from it just for you, Sun! It’s a panacea passed down to me by my great grandmother.
You: Do goddesses have great grandmothers?
Sun: I can see I’m outnumbered here so maybe I should just surrender.
He picks up a spoon and begins digging into the soup.
Sun: Wow, this is delicious! I can’t think when was the last time I enjoyed actual food.
Moon: Yeah, take a break, Sun! You shine on the world every day but when do you get to rest?
Just then, the Sun begins to go dark.
Sun: It’s starting!
Neptune: Get him to the pool, everybody!
Moon and Neptune help him over to the pool and ease him into the warm water. The Sun sizzles and crackles a bit as he drops into the water, which warms from him being in it, making a delicious bath for everyone to enjoy. Everyone else also disrobes and steps into the hot pool, including you, despite your embarrassment, which no one seems to share. You’ve never felt anything so relaxing and the hot water makes you want to melt right down to your bones.
Sun: I’m feeling a deep sense of gratitude that all of you are in my life. And I’m feeling truly cleansed. Now, how about a drink to celebrate?
All the other planets shake their heads.
Moon: Sometimes a stressful square works better than a harmonious trine or sextile.
Juno: Yeah, if we were harder on him, it might have had some lasting impact.
Ceres: Perhaps he just wanted the attention. He is the Sun, after all, and always was something of an egomaniac.
All the planets rise from the water in a single motion, and grab Sun by the arms.
Sun: What now? Where are you taking me?
North Node: To rehab. You’re out of control.
Sun: Noooooooooooooooooooooo! I don’t have a problem!
And they exit your home en masse, dragging the Sun with them.

February’s lunar eclipse involves a self-centered Leo Moon supported in a Grand Trine with Saturn and Uranus. These fiery-placed planets are not going to hold the Moon back but the Sun in Aquarius (with help from Jupiter in Libra) has other ideas. The mood is one of grandstanding and large gestures—but does all this sound and fury signify anything? Sometimes a blowhard just wants attention and doesn’t care if the audience is bored.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: February 10, 2017
Time of eclipse: 4:33 PM Pacific Time
Type: penumbral (weak in intensity)
Visible in: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America.
At: 22º Leo
Nodal Orientation: Initiating. The eclipsed Moon conjunct North Node in Virgo creates an Initiating (not Releasing) nodal orientation.
Shadow Agents:  Uranus in Aries, Saturn in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Libra

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
February 5 to 15
May 8 to 18
August 10 to 20
November 9 to 19

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).  You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. The Moon in Leo is on your doorstep, dressed in a fiery orange superhero costume. The Sun in Aquarius is behind the Moon, trying to hold him back. The Moon bursts into your living room, quickly followed by Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is wearing black, including a pencil skirt, and has a clipboard, with a pen tucked behind her ear. Uranus is covered in wires, trying to untangle them. All burst into your living room, where they land in a heap.
Moon (pulling himself out of the heap): And I want thunder and lightning and a big, big spotlight right on ME!
Uranus: I’m still working on untangling these wires I put away so badly last season. Then I’ll get to work on your special effects and lighting. Believe me, this is going to be SPEEEEcial!
Saturn (standing up and smoothing her clothes with dignity): I’m seeing this as the smash hit of the year. We’re going to get an award for this one!
Sun (finally walking in the door, followed by Jupiter): Are you guys remembering that it’s not just about making a splash, but that the critics will be watching and we want to make a good impression?
Moon: This production is MY baby! It’s an expression of ME! It’s going to go how I WANT it to go!
Jupiter: But have you really thought about what the audience wants?
Sun: Yes, have you put out any surveys on social media?
Uranus: That’s my department and I’m all over his social media!
Moon: They LOVE me on social media!
Sun: Has it ever occurred to you that maybe you have a big head?
Moon: No, NEVER! I really am this great.
The Moon in Leo seems unable to speak except in superlatives. There’s another knock at the door and the North Node in Virgo walks in. As the North Node approaches the Moon, the Moon begins to go dark.
Moon: Hey, stay away!
North Node: It’s eclipse time.
Sun: Thanks for coming, North Node. Thank goodness you’re in Virgo and have a sense of discernment. I think the Moon needs your input as a theatrical critic. What is your genuine opinion of this production?
North Node: It’s got a lot of holes in it.
Moon (getting darker): It’s not finished!
North Node: I really don’t think it’s going to be worth paying attention to.
Moon (getting darker still): I’m not ready!
Saturn (standing behind the Moon and propping him up): It’s ok dear, just go on with what you’re doing. Others see you as an authority and you can do what you want.
Uranus (also standing behind the Moon): Be the change you want to make in the world! It doesn’t matter what others think. Especially those stupid critics. They just want to tear you down.
Sun: This is a vanity play for you. It’s not enjoyable for the audience.
Jupiter: I totally concur. This isn’t just you broadcasting whatever you want. It’s a relationship with the audience. They have a choice about whether to watch.
Just then, the South Node in Pisces walks in the door. She’s carrying a scrying bowl.
South Node: Here’s what the future holds.
Everybody looks in the bowl to see what is to come. The water in the bowl is cloudy at first, then images form. Days flip by on a calendar, and a week later, the show opens. A newspaper appears on the following day, saying “the show flopped.” The critic has written an article about the show, calling it a narcissistic exercise in self-aggrandizement, doomed to implode in its own. . . manure. After another week the show closes due to lack of ticket sales. Watching all this, the Moon, at his darkest, flops down on the sofa and bursts into tears.
Moon (bellowing tearfully): What should I do?
Sun: Still the center of attention, aren’t you? Before it was all about your bellows. Now it’s all about your tears.
Jupiter: Are you ready to actually listen?
Moon: Yes!
Jupiter: Think of it as a dialogue. You have a relationship with the audience. What do they actually want to see? What do they need from you?
Moon: I’m having an epiphany. I need to rethink this whole thing. I need to listen to the audience. It’s not about me.
Sun: Yes, I think some THINKING is exactly the point. You’ve been doing, not thinking.
The Moon starts to brighten up again.
Moon: I don’t know how to pay attention to the audience’s needs and interests. Will you help me?
Everyone: Of Course!
Jupiter: We only needed to be invited.
North and South Nodes (in unison): Our work here is done.
They lock arms and stroll out the door while the rest of the group begins brainstorming the next season’s show.

This year, Saturn enters into a square with Chiron, which lasts almost a year and spans 21 to 27º of Mutable signs, affecting those with Sun in Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini and Virgo everywhere. Chiron is the planet of wounding and healing while Saturn rules authoritarianism and hierarchy. What could this stressful planetary aspect mean? The script below describes one way it could go, but first, how will you know if this even matters to you?

Does this transit affect you?

If you were born within the following dates, you will feel this transit strongly:
December 11 through 19 of any year
March 10 through 17 of any year
June 10 through 18 of any year
September 13 through 20 of any year

This post may seem like a statement about world events, but it’s also a metaphor for events inside all us human beings. This post is for you if. . .

  • You’ve become aware of some deep wounding in your life and don’t know what to do about it
  • You face the same (seemingly karmic or fated) situations over and over again, and always you feel like the victim
  • You’re ready to heal the wound instead of escaping the responsibility

How Saturn square Chiron works
(this part is technical, but brief)

The connection between Saturn and Chiron is strongest when it’s exact and there are 3 days this year when that happens. I’ll show you images of these connections below but first, please know that if one of those days happens to be your birthday or within a few days on either side of it, then Saturn and Chiron will have powerful lessons expressly for you in this birthday year. A reading of your birthday chart (called a Solar Return) can help you discover what it means for your year and how to use it to the fullest capacity. These are the dates of the exact Saturn-Chiron connections this year: December 28, 2016, April 30, 2017 and November 2, 2017.

The first pass happens on December 28, 2016, while Saturn is direct at 21º Sagittarius and Chiron (also direct) is at 21º Pisces. If you have anything in 21º of a Mutable sign—such as your Sun, Moon or Ascendant, and so on—you will feel this (see diagram for pass 1).

Saturn square Chiron pass 1

The second pass happens on April 30, 2017, while Saturn is retrograde and Chiron is direct and both are at 27º of their signs. If you have anything in 27º of Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini or Virgo, you will feel this (see diagram for pass 2).

Saturn square Chiron pass 2

The third pass is where this transit ends, on November 2, 2017 with Saturn direct at 24º Sagittarius while Chiron is still retrograde in 24º Pisces. This will affect you if you have anything in 24º of Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini or Virgo (see diagram for pass 3).

Saturn square Chiron pass 3

What could this stressful planetary aspect mean?
The following story illustrates one way it could go. . .

On board a large sailing vessel filled with a small city of people, Saturn has arrived at the coastline of the first island in an archipelago. He is the head of a large contingent of missionaries. There is a glow around him as he steps forth from the ship. On dry land, he looks around for who’s in charge.
Saturn: (to a Human Being he finds on the beach): Take me to your leader!
The Human Being is completely in wonder at the strange clothing and strange objects carried by the Boat People who are now crowding onto the beach. They follow Saturn in a straight, organized line to the village, where the Human Being announces the arrival of strangers in their midst. Human leads Saturn straight to Chiron, a religious leader wearing comfortable island garb, tending his fire and minding his own business.
Human Being: Chiron, strangers have come!
Chiron: I’m not terribly interested. I’m in Pisces. I’ve been sitting here in meditation for several months and I can tell you these strangers bring no good with them.
Chiron scowls at Saturn.
Saturn: We’ve brought you a wonderful thing. It’s called religion.
Chiron: We don’t need your religion here.
But from behind Chiron peeps a Young Woman who is looking with interest at a Young Man among the Boat People. She smiles and he smiles back.
Chiron: Can’t you see we already have religion?
Saturn: Our religion is the true one. It’s the only one that has reality. We’re offering to include you in it.
Chiron: Is that an offer or a demand?
Saturn: It’s an offer of course!
Chiron: Not if it comes at the point of a sword.
Saturn: But you are savages! Don’t you want to come into the modern era?
Chiron: What does history say? After the missionaries come the colonists. After the colonists come the traders. After the traders come the businessmen. Before much time has passed as we reckon it, we who have lived on this land for many more generations than we can name will find that our land is seized, owned (an idea foreign to us) and that we are no longer allowed to live on it.
Saturn: Ridiculous! My people believe in one universal truth. Your people have lost their way. We are here to guide you back. Why aren’t you grateful?
Chiron. I am grateful. I am grateful for the green, green forest and the wealth of fish in the sea and the wide blue sky I get to live under. But for you showing up here? No, I’m not grateful.
Saturn (who hasn’t been listening): Yes, a few of us might have to move in, and we might need to make space for them, but is that really a problem? Where’s your generosity?
Chiron: We belong to the land, she does not belong to us. We can not own her, therefore we can not give her away. She is not ours to give. This land sustains us. Without it, we will perish. Is this your gift? That we should perish for your business interests?
Saturn: I’m not a businessman, but if I was, I’d say that your people could use some jobs. And there are some lovely resources around here you could be leveraging more powerfully. Perhaps you should start a tourist industry?
Chiron: So you would enslave us as well.
He sighs.
Chiron: We don’t have guns to fight you. I suppose this will go as it always has. Your arrogance will win and ours will be the ultimate sacrifice.
Chiron walks into his own fire and stands in it, singing as he burns. When there are only ashes left, his people mourn. Ultimately what is left is a story of a martyr who loved his home and his people, and resisted colonization until death.
Saturn: What have I done here?
And the Boat People move in, bringing religion, commerce, property ownership, guns and syphilis with them.

If you are feeling this transit
and want to understand its meaning in your life,
an astrology reading will clarify this and much, much more.

This year, Jupiter enters into an opposition with Uranus, which lasts ten months and spans 20 to 27º of Cardinal signs, affecting those with Sun in Libra, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn everywhere. Uranus brings revolution, revolt, rebellion and large shifts in consciousness, while Jupiter expands everything it touches. The opposition is a stressful aspect—what could this mean for us here on Earth? The script below describes one way it could go, but first, how will you know if this even matters to you?

Does this transit affect you?

If you were born within the following dates, you will feel this transit strongly:
April 9 through 17 of any year
July 11 through 19 of any year
October 12 through 20 of any year
January 10 through 18 of any year

This post is for you if. . .

  • You’ve been trying to make a change but banging your head against a wall—possibly for years
  • You have difficulty making the large breakthroughs in your life, perhaps because of a lack of courage or confidence
  • You’re ready to bust through that glass ceiling

How Jupiter opposed Uranus works
(this part is technical, but brief)

The connection between Jupiter and Uranus is strongest when it’s exact and there are 3 days this year when that happens. I’ll show you images of these connections below but first, please know that if one of those days happens to be your birthday or within a few days on either side of it, then Jupiter and Uranus will have powerful lessons expressly for you in this birthday year. A reading of your birthday chart (called a Solar Return) can help you discover what it means for your year and how to use it to the fullest capacity. These are the dates of the exact Jupiter-Uranus connections this year: December 26, 2016, March 2, 2017 and September 27, 2017.

The first pass happens on December 26, 2016, while Jupiter is direct at 20º Libra and Uranus is retrograde at 20º Aries. If you have anything in 20º of a Cardinal sign—such as your Sun, Moon or Ascendant, and so on—you will feel this (see diagram for pass 1).

Jupiter opposed Uranus pass 1

The second pass happens on March 2, 2017, while Jupiter is retrograde and Uranus is direct and both are at 22º of their signs. If you have anything in 22º of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn, you will feel this (see diagram for pass 2).

Jupiter opposed Uranus pass 2

The third pass is where this transit ends, on September 27, 2017 with Jupiter direct at 27º Libra while Uranus is still retrograde in 27º Aries. This will affect you if you have anything in 27º of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn (see diagram for pass 3).

Jupiter opposed Uranus pass 3

What could this stressful planetary aspect mean? The following story illustrates one way it could go. . .

Jupiter is strolling around at the top of Mount Olympus and encounters Uranus, who is wearing a bright red superhero costume and wielding a hammer.
Jupiter: Uranus dude, what are you up to?
Uranus: These really need breaking. We need some new ideas around here.
Jupiter comes closer to see what Uranus is talking about. Uranus has assembled a bunch of pieces of wood, which are nailed together in squares.
Jupiter: Are those. . . frames?
Uranus: Yes, they are! They are conceptual frames.
But before he can explain further, they hear footsteps and the sound of panting approaching. It’s Human Being, who is laboring his way up the mountainside.
Human Being: Here, Uranus, I’ve brought you some more.
He dumps about 20 more frames on the ground at Uranus’ feet.
Jupiter: Wow, feeling godly today are we, Uranus?
Uranus: You bet! Now it’s time for some destruction!
He takes the hammer to the frames, sending splinters of wood everywhere. Jupiter and the hapless Human Being cover their faces. When the noise is over, they peek out between their fingers. Uranus is looking very satisfied with himself. Human Being looks lost.
Human Being (breaking into a wail): What am I going to do without my cherished conceptual frames? How will I understand things?
Jupiter puts a fatherly arm around Human Being and leads him off to the side.
Jupiter: You know, Uranus can be that way sometimes. Perhaps it’s time you turned to religion for some answers.
Uranus: Science!
Jupiter: Religion!
Uranus: Science!
Jupiter: Religion!
Uranus: Forgive us, Human Being, it’s a sort of shared tic we have. We can’t help it.
Jupiter: Back to the point. The world is a lovelier place when you have a view that encompasses fairness.
Uranus: You only think that because you’re Libra.
Jupiter: And you only want to destroy things because you’re in Aries.
Human Being (breaking in): But which of the world’s religions is fair?
Jupiter: Umm, wish I could answer that.
Uranus (pulling Human Being aside): You can’t just accept the beliefs that were handed to you. You’ve got to experiment with life! Think differently! Outside the box! New and unusual! (He’s flushing with excitement)
Human Being: Frankly, you both scare me. Do you realize that when you shout, explosions happen down on Earth? And caught in the middle between you, what will I and all the other Human Beings do?
Uranus: Become a radical! (kaboom!)
Jupiter: Turn to religion! (crash!)
Uranus: Experiment! (bang!)
Jupiter: Grow as a person! (smash!)
Uranus: Form a hypothesis! (poof!)
Jupiter: Tell a story! (kapow!)
Uranus: Make an experiment! (bonk!)
Jupiter: Look at the big picture! (bash!)
Uranus: Distance yourself! (kabing!)
Jupiter: Involve yourself! (kaplooie!)
Human Being: It’s getting way too hot around here. I need to take a vacation someplace peaceful. This radicalized atmosphere is too much for me.
Neptune in Pisces appears, shimmering in the air like Glinda. She sweeps him up and begins to carry him away, patting his head in a soothing way. With a deep sigh, Human Being instantly goes to sleep.
Uranus: Hey, where are you going?
Neptune (as she drifts off with Human Being in tow): Off to find a nice island somewhere. And if that’s not possible, probably just going to fill up this Human Being with some escapist drugs.

If you are feeling this transit
and want to understand its meaning in your life,
an astrology reading will clarify this and much, much more.

This year, Saturn enters into a trine with Uranus, which lasts most of the year and spans 20 to 26º of Fire signs, affecting those with planets in Sagittarius, Aries and Leo everywhere. Uranus is the Revolutionary while Saturn is the Traditionalist. The trine is a harmonious aspect, suggesting that these two very dissimilar characters will be able to get along and share power smoothly. But how? The story below describes one way it could go, but first, how will you know if this even matters to you?

Does this transit affect you?

If you were born within the following dates, you will feel this transit strongly:
December 11 through 18 of any year
April 9 through 16 of any year
August 12 through 19 of any year

This post may seem like a statement about world events, but it’s also a metaphor for events inside all us human beings. This post is for you if. . .

  • You’re trying to make a major shift in the way you’ve always done things, and you’re ready for it to be easy
  • You have difficulty letting go of the old and making way for the new because you’re either too traditional or too reactionary or too just plain stubborn
  • You’re ready for an easier way and for changes that benefit everyone, not just those on top

How the Saturn square Neptune works
(this part is technical, but brief)

The connection between Saturn and Uranus is strongest when it’s exact and there are 3 days this year when that happens. I’ll show you images of these connections below but first, please know that if one of those days happens to be your birthday or within a few days on either side of it, then Saturn and Uranus will have powerful lessons expressly for you in this birthday year. A reading of your birthday chart (called a Solar Return) can help you discover what it means for your year and how to use it to the fullest capacity. These are the dates of the exact Saturn-Uranus connections this year: December 24, 2016, May 18, 2017 and November 11, 2017.

The first pass happens on December 24, 2016, while Saturn is direct at 20º Sagittarius and Uranus is retrograde (moving backwards) at 20º Aries. If you have anything in 20º of a Fire sign–like your Sun, Moon or Ascendant, and so on—you will feel this (see diagram for pass 1).

Saturn trine Uranus pass 1

The second pass happens on May 18, 2017, while Saturn is retrograde at 26º Sagittarius and Uranus is direct at 26º Aries. If you have anything in 26º of Sagittarius, Aries, or Leo, you will feel this (see diagram for pass 2).

Saturn trine Uranus pass 2

The third pass is where this transit ends, on November 11, 2017, with Saturn direct at 25º Sagittarius while Uranus is still retrograde in 25º Aries. This will affect you if you have anything in 25º of Sagittarius, Aries or Leo (see diagram for pass 3).

Saturn trine Uranus pass 3

What could this stressful planetary aspect mean?
The following story illustrates one way it could go. . .

There was once a young man named Saturn in Sagittarius who grew up on a wealthy sugar cane farm on a small island nation. His father owned the farm, though the son did not wish to inherit the business from his father when he grew up. When he was old enough to leave home, he went to University, where Saturn in Sagittarius studied law, and hoped to use his degree to help the underdogs of society.

When he was studying at the University Library, buried underneath old tomes full of legal cases, he ran into a fellow student who was known for her extreme politics. Her name was Uranus in Aries, and she was the most spontaneous, incendiary, opinionated, and hell-bent person he had ever met.

“Why are you studying law?” she scoffed at Saturn in Sagittarius.

“I want to use my degree to make the world a better place,” he humbly replied. Uranus in Aries laughed at him. “But how can you make the world a better place when you will one day inherit a plantation that enslaves its workers?” That took Saturn in Sagittarius aback.

Saturn spent weeks and even months mulling over what she had said. Uranus had completely shifted the perspective that he’d spent years of his life working inside of. But she had that affect on people.

Saturn in Sagittarius then decided to put his money where his mouth was. He left school and became a revolutionary, joining forces with Uranus in Aries to fight the colonial oppressors. During this time, Saturn in Sagittarius stopped getting letters from his father. He took this as a withdrawal of his father’s approval. Some days, he could almost hear his father’s disapproving voice in his head, judging his ‘power to the people’ ideology. But he kept on working to change the system.

While Saturn and Uranus were working hard ousting colonial land owners, Saturn realized that removing a corrupt power was not enough to sustain the effects of their revolutionary effort, since another colonialist oppressor could take their place.

“We need to find a better system,” said Saturn in Sagittarius.

“How?” asked Uranus in Aries, as she was running paces around Saturn at lightening speed. She had a hard time using up all her energy on a daily basis.

“I’ll go travel the world to see what other cultures do,” he replied. Uranus in Aries stopped so suddenly that smoke emanated from the floorboards underneath her feet. “But you are TERRIFIED of travel! In fact, you’ve never left this island nation in your WHOLE LIFE.”

“Your right, I’m terrified. But I’m more terrified of what will happen to our revolution if I do not go.” He left the island the next day on a large ocean liner. It was indeed a terrifying experience for Saturn. His heart raced faster and faster as the ship pulled further and further away from his homeland.

Ten months later, Saturn in Sagittarius returned to the island. Uranus in Aries raced up to the ship to greet him.

“So tell me, tell me, tell me… what are we going to do?” she asked him impatiently. Saturn in Sagittarius smiled confidently. “I think I know what we should try,” he said in his understated way.

The next day, Saturn visited his father’s plantation. Now, Saturn in Sagittarius had been facing a lot of his own fears lately, but facing his father was by far the most terrifying thing of all. When he arrived, he saw his father wearing a Hawaiian print shirt and drinking a piña colada. “Hello Son,” said his father. “I’ve been trying to contact you for the past six months or so… where have you been?”

“I’ve been abroad,” replied Saturn, who had a hard time not shaking in fear. His father did look a lot more relaxed than usual though…

“I wanted to let you know that I retired a few months ago! I want to enjoy my twilight years in peace. This plantation is all yours now. You can do whatever you want – I just want to be able to sit on the porch and drink piña coladas. I’ve discovered that I really like them and after so many years of working so hard, I’m really tired.”

Saturn in Sagittarius couldn’t believe his ears. The plantation was his to organize, exactly as he saw fit! He grabbed his phone and shot a quick text message to Uranus, inviting her to visit.

So just as his father asked, Saturn in Sagittarius took over the plantation, and let his elderly father wear as many hideous Hawaiian shirts as he pleased, while he rocked back and forth on the porch imbibing neon mixed drinks. Saturn in Sagittarius then changed the slave-run plantation into a worker’s coop. He had visited a number of these business models while he was abroad, and believed that this would be the solution that would sustain their revolution.

The workers were freed that day and allowed to own their own land. And that day was forever remembered as a day of liberation, when the old transitioned peacefully into the new.

Those who are born under the fiery, fixed sign of Leo (born between July 23 and August 22) are widely known for their showmanship, creativity, and leadership. Ruled by the Sun, the very core of our solar system, Leos tend to take the center-stage and can even have their own gravitational field. But when are you the adored rock star of the Zodiac, or just being an obnoxious attention-hogger? It’s fun to have your own fan base, but do you know when to share the spotlight with others?

Leo, when you’re at your best. . .
. . . you’re one of the most magnanimous member of the Zodiac. No one can throw a party like you–you are a natural host/ess and can make anyone feel welcomed. Since you can shine like the Sun, that means everyone can’t take their eyes off of you. You take to leadership like a fish to water, and can serve as a guiding light for those to follow. You also exude confidence–whether you actually have it or not. Know the expression “Fake it until you make it?” There’s some Leo logic right there. You also have a great talent for finding the talent in others. Therefore, you make an ideal motivational coach, and can help others find their own confidence and strengths. Nobody can build up someone else’s self-esteem like a Leo!

. . . and at your worst. . .
I’ve already mentioned that your ruling planet is at the center of our solar system. That seems like an important position–and it is. However, sometimes being at the very center means that it’s easy to forget that there are others out there. Sometimes when you shine so brightly, you cast a shadow over everyone else. This may make you feel justified in your own ‘brightness,’ but be careful of devolving into a rampant narcissist. Yes, people DO notice you, and they DO follow you, but you are not the only one with something to offer in this universe. Also, there is a fine line between having star quality, and just desperate showboating. If you place yourself in the center of attention all of the time, people may actually start feeling more drained by you than dazzled.

Handling your Cancer nature
Every Leo has a performative, creative side to their personality. For you to really shine in life (and maintain your sanity) you need to find an outlet for performance. Perhaps you were born to be on the stage, have your own YouTube channel, write a blog, or anything that gets you SEEN somehow. Also, once you have found your platform, make sure to share it with others. Be generous with the spotlight! And here’s another tip for being a great performer–learn how to play to your audience, meaning: learn to listen to others. The more good feedback you get and integrate into your leadership/performance, the more your audience will grow and grow. And how rewarding is that for you, Leo!

Clueing others in about you
There are some important things that every Leo needs from others people. Leos have a social nature, and they can really give and give the same way that the Sun gives and gives its light to Earth every day. But if all of that giving goes unappreciated, than a Leo can feel quite depressed. There are mature ways to tell others that you need appreciation for all that you do for them. And when you finally get some, than you will be a very bright, and happy Leo! Another thing that Leos need from others is to be treated with respect and dignity. Even the quiet Leos out there (and there are a few!) can have a rather dignified presence. If you find others laughing at your expense or not taking you seriously enough, speak up for yourself. Respecting yourself is the first step to getting others to respect you.

If you don’t have Saturn in Cancer, you can find out where YOU have Saturn here.

Aries, this post is all about you, which must mean that I have your full attention! Your sign is the hard-headed ram (born between March 22 and April 20) and like a ram, you literally plunge head-first into life. You’re a natural leader, and the world needs people like you because it is full of followers. But when are you being a pioneering maverick or just an obnoxious blowhard?

Aries, when you’re at your best. . .
…you are being honest, direct and forthright. Nobody has to be a mind-reader around you, because you say what you are thinking with little hesitation. And people like your friendly and transparent nature since ‘what you see is what you get.’ There is a beautiful simplicity to you, and you can get a lot accomplished in your life solely because you know exactly what you want. The sun is exalted in Aries, which means that your ego’s desires translate directly into action. You are also great at pursuing things in all aspects of your life—relationships, jobs, money—so you quite often end up getting the things you need.

…and at you’re worst…
There is another side to your go-getter nature which can actually alienate others. You are the solipsist of the zodiac, so you have a hard time seeing how your actions affect others, or that there are other dimensions to reality beyond yours. You can seriously lack self-objectivity, and lose perspective on your own behavior. Know how irritating a screaming, self-centered infant can be? Well that may be an accurate metaphor for how others view you at times. You can be hasty, rushed, and while you are good at starting things, completing projects is more of a challenge. Your ‘honesty’ (which you value so much) can really just come off as abrasive, blunt and unnecessarily provocative. Your irascible nature means that you can also fly off the handle easily, while others are left spinning in your wake.

Handling your Aries nature
In order to accomplish things at a pace which keeps you interested, try the method of ‘fail fast, fail often’ where you allow yourself to jump right into a project and fail (without penalty) as many times as it is necessary to successfully complete it. If you spend all of your time dwelling on one aspect of a project, you’ll get bored, and boredom is anathema to you. Also, try to dial down your behavior around others who are slower or have lower energy than you—otherwise you will end up bulldozing them. And lastly, have an apology ready at hand. You will inevitably step on people’s toes so be prepared to apologize quickly and gracefully. That can smooth things over and get you back on the fast track, where you belong.

Clueing others in about you….
Tell others that you appreciate it when they shoot from the hip—let them know that you need strong feedback in order to curb your behavior. Skywriting their words from a plane should do it. Also let others know that every once in while, your Aries bubble may pop and you will feel deflated. Don’t let them ever assume it’s their fault, since you, Aries, will re-inflate your own bubble in no time. And in a similar vein, let others know that if you get angry (which you will), they shouldn’t feel responsible for it nor should they take it personally. Your emotions are like a monsoon season—the skies will be bright and sunny until a torrential downpour strikes. Ten minutes later, the sun will come back again. Let others know that they can run for cover, but that you won’t hold a grudge and will quickly let go of whatever set you off. You’ll always do best with companions who also don’t hold a grudge and who are able to let go of any of your stupid mistakes right away, as being reminded over and over again of what you did wrong brings you unnecessary pain. Then you can get back to barreling through life in your usual way!

March’s Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse, with Shadow Agents Mars and Mercury in attendance. Mercury aligns with the Sun in Aries, demanding logic and swift thought. Mars cheers from the sidelines in support. But the Moon in Libra wants balance instead of impulsivity. And all the while, the thoughts are flying thick and fast. What to do? Make a mental net to capture all the ideas that may come along this swift, intuitive stream. Do you have a good idea-capturing system? Now might be the time to begin.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: March 23, 2016
Time of eclipse: 5:01 AM Pacific Time
Type: penumbral (weak in intensity)
Visible in: North America, northwest part of South America, Australia, eastern Russia, China, Japan, Mongolia, India.
At: 3º Libra
Nodal Orientation: the eclipsed Moon conjunct North Node creates an Initiating (not Releasing) nodal orientation
Shadow Agents:  Mars in Sagittarius, Mercury in Aries

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
March 18 to 28
June 19 to 29
September 21 to October 1
December 19 to 29

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event).

This lunar eclipse falls at the North Node, making this an initiating eclipse, one which is capable of sparking events that can lead to a new beginning. Be courageous and try new things under this eclipse. You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after). The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You are resting at home, when the doorbell rings. Not expecting any company, you walk to the door and curiously open it a crack. The Sun in Aries, and his small, feisty pal Mercury in Aries, come bursting through the door. “We REFUSE to compromise!” they both scream in unison. Before you have a chance to open to your mouth and ask questions, both planets begin ranting. You suddenly realize that once you’ve let unbridled, Aries energy into your house, there is no way to simply ask it to leave…

“I just moved in with my girlfriend, the Moon in Libra,” whines the blowhard Sun in Aries. “And now, my life has been totally hijacked by this relationship! When I was living on my own, I could do whatever I want! If I didn’t feel like washing the dishes, guess what? They wouldn’t get washed ‘till I felt like it! Also, I could come and go every time I pleased, without ever having to check in with anybody!” The Sun was puffed up with anger. His face became redder and redder as he continued his petulant tirade.

“Ever since my girlfriend moved in, everything I do becomes a long discussion. If I want to decorate, I have to clear it with her first. If I want to invite my buddies over, I have to ask her if it works for her too. I’m sick of this! I want to be a bachelor again!”

The Sun and Mercury storm into your living room and plop down on your couch. They put their feet up on your coffee table. You hesitantly offer some advice, “Well relationships can be tough, because they require lots of communication…” but then you get interrupted by brash Mercury in Aries.

“Who is better at communicating than me?” he exclaims as he clearly hasn’t heard anything you have just said. All of a sudden, a text pings on your phone. It’s from the Moon in Libra: “Excuse me, but would it be all right if I stopped by? I’m having problems with my boyfriend, the Sun, and I’m at my wit’s end about what to do with him. I would appreciate some advice about it.”

As the Sun and Mercury whine on about how lame it is to have to talk about everything, they don’t even notice you texting the Moon back. You write: “Of course you are welcome to come over. But the Sun has already beat you here!”

Half an hour passes, and the Sun and Mercury have not stopped talking about how much the Sun is ready to move out from his home with the Moon. In fact, neither of them has even asked you one question about how you are doing. You’ve already begun to sense where the root of the problem in communication may lie…

The doorbell rings and you get up to answer it. As you expected, the Moon in Libra is at the door. She is standing there politely, and has even brought over some flowers in a gesture of consideration. Behind her is Mars in Sagittarius, one of the Sun’s best friends. As they enter the living room, the Sun and Mercury jump up from the couch. “Hey, Mars buddy!” the Sun exclaims. “Did my girlfriend drag you over here? Oh, hey babe….” the Sun says as he glances over at Moon.

Mars in Sagittarius has often played the mediator between the couple, diffusing tensions and suggesting actions that can help things move forward when they’re stuck. The Aries Sun loves his bluntness, and the Libra Moon enjoys his travel stories. They’re both happy to see him, sensing an end to the tension between them.

“Guys, it’s time you two sit down and discuss you problems,” Mars says, as the Sun rolls his eyes. “Discuss?! That’s all we ever do! I guess I have no patience for living with someone else. I’m not much of a compromiser.”

“Oh, shut up and grow up, Sun!” replies Mars in his typical shoot-from-the-hip style. “You’ve been hanging around with that Peter Pan Mercury in Aries too much. He may never want to grow up, but you’d better, if you expect to have the lovely and talented Moon in Libra in your life.” It’s just the kind of directness that the Sun in Aries needs to make him actually listen. “I could never have said that to him,” whispers the Moon in your ear.

“There’s no reason to be afraid of having your independence taken,” says Mars. “The Moon is in an Air sign. She’s perfectly capable of giving you space when you need it. But now that you and she are living together, naturally she expects you to tell her about things ahead of time, because they affect her too.”

For the first time you can ever remember, the Sun is at a loss for words. Even Mercury in Aries can’t argue with that kind of logic.

Mars in Sagittarius continues, “Sun in Aries, you don’t want to be single. You’ve been on your own for most of your life. This is merely a new experience—and there’s no one better than you at trying new things. Maybe underneath all of your complaints, you are just really afraid of something…maybe it’s becoming more mature, maybe it’s losing your independence…but those fears are all ungrounded. You see, Libra Moon isn’t your adversary, she’s your teammate. And with her, your life is so much better. You live in a beautiful home with someone who cares about what you’re up to. What could be better than that?”

The Moon in Libra relaxes noticeably because Mars has cut straight to the point. And the Sun relaxes too. “Thanks, my brother,” he says. “I needed that.” Mercury looks on in amazement that Mars has stated both positions and brought the two into alignment by being soft on the Moon and tough on the Sun. It looks like magic to him. He sidles up to Mars, whispering, “Can you teach me how you did that?” Mars signs him up for a teleseminar on the spot.

The Sun in Aries and Moon in Libra look adoringly into each other’s eyes, then link arms and happily stroll out of your home towards their own, trailing a cloud of little pink hearts.

March’s New Moon in Pisces is also an eclipse and oh boy is this a complex one! Shadow Agents in attendance include Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, Chiron, Ceres and Juno. The mood is one of new beginnings that emerge from muddy origins. The healing themes present in the Jupiter/Chiron opposition are also a part of this eclipse. Imagine yourself pulled in two directions, toward both chaos and order. Now imagine that there are many more factors to consider than you can even cope with. The result: total overwhelm. The solution? Slow down, relax, find your center and re-approach when you are ready.

Details About This Eclipse

Date: March 8, 2016
Time of eclipse: 5:54 PM Pacific Time
Type: total (strong in intensity)
Visible in: eastern Asia, southern China, Indonesia, northern Australia, Korea, Japan, eastern tip of Russia and western Alaska.
At: 18º Pisces
Nodal Orientation: the eclipsed Sun conjunct South Node creates a Releasing (not Initiating) nodal orientation
Shadow Agents:  Jupiter in Virgo, Pluto in Capricorn, Saturn in Sagittarius, Juno in Scorpio, Chiron in Pisces, Ceres in Pisces

Does It Affect You Personally?

If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you’re most likely to experience this eclipse:
March 3 to 13
June 3 to 13
September 5 to 15
December 5 to 15

Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable.  A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event).  This solar eclipse falls at the South Node, making this a releasing eclipse, one which is designed to force you to let go of old things you may be attached to, but don’t really need anymore.  Let go of attachment and this eclipse will go more smoothly.  You may notice events happening anytime within the week surrounding the eclipse (up to a few days before or after).  The following script is just one possible way it could go.

You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. There stands a veritable crowd of planetary archetypes, pushing and shoving to get in your door.
You: Oh no, you don’t! There are too many of you. Please go away.
You shut the door. Through the door-window you see the Moon cast an arc of sparkly energy in the air. The door dissolves.
Moon: When I’m in Pisces, I specialize in dissolving things. Especially boundaries.
The Moon enters the living room and stands there for a moment silently, with her eyes closed. You notice that a light mist, or possibly a smoke arises from her feet and her hands and fills the room with a foggy glow.
Moon: Ok, everybody, come on in.
You: I didn’t ask for this!
One by one, the planets troop across your threshold: Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, Juno, Chiron and Ceres. They are followed by the Sun, who is quite dark and weak, and who fumbles for a chair. The Moon stands over him, making more sparkles in the air.
Sun: I keep trying to establish my center, but I’m so confused.
Jupiter: You remind me of Superman with kryptonite.
Sun: Yes, it feels like that. I feel so weak and unclear.
Jupiter: Hey everybody, what can we do to help the Sun get his center back?Saturn: You would ask that. You’re at the North Node. You want the Sun to take the high road. But how can he do that, when he’s at the South Node? I’m critical of your method.
Juno: Maybe I can help. The Moon is eclipsing the Sun in the House of Partnership. I am an archetype of Partnership too. Perhaps the answer lies in balance, mirroring and consulting with others.
Saturn: (warningly) It’s possible to do that too much!
Pluto: I have a helpful thought to offer too. Vulnerability and a willingness to share one’s innermost thoughts can bring the Sun all the way through the fog and out the other side. Because, as I like to say, the only way out is through.
Chiron: I agree. Healing is what’s needed, and that takes time and openness. You have to go deeper before you can get through the fog and come out the other side.
Ceres: I think it’s time to check in with bodily wisdom. Sometimes your body knows things you are unaware of. (to the Sun) What is your body telling you now?
The Sun just moans in confusion, thrashing about a little.
Jupiter: All those things are true, but if being near the North Node in Virgo has taught me anything, it’s this: Languishing in a state of confusion and mud can only take you backwards. Onwards, then, into boundaries, common sense and clarity!
Chiron: But don’t leave compassion behind.
Jupiter: True enough. But compassion is no excuse for boundarilessness.
Sun: You’re all speaking in abstracts. I’m more confused than ever.
Moon: Let’s go watch a sad movie together.
Sun: That actually sounds like a good idea. A really sad movie, that will make me cry.
Moon: Then maybe you’ll know what you feel.
Sun: And maybe then I’ll find my center again.
The Moon turns on Netflix and finds some choices. Ceres makes the popcorn, and the Pisces bunch (Sun, Moon, Ceres, Chiron) settle on the sofa to watch. Pluto and Juno join them.
Saturn: Ridiculous!
Jupiter: Idiotic!
Jupiter and Saturn sit in separate corners, reading their phones.
The movie-viewers happily snuggle together and start the movie. Soon tears are streaming down all their faces. After an hour and a half, and a whole box of tissues, they are all hugging.
Moon: That was so sad!
Sun: But also life-affirming—
Ceres: I really felt it in my heart and gut—
Pluto: I let myself be vulnerable to it—
Juno: I was able to feel the main character’s pain—
Chiron: And the pain mixed with my own pain—
Moon: And then when I cried, it all was released together!
Jupiter and Saturn shrug at each other as the still tearful but now happy group gets up and leaves the house in a bunch, punctuated by the occasional hug, back-slap or handing over of another tissue. Saturn and Jupiter follow them.
Jupiter: There’s no accounting for tastes!
Saturn: None at all.

The symbol for Pisces is two fish, swimming in opposite directions, an apt metaphor for the ambivalence that characterizes those born under this sign (between February 21 and March 22). Pisceans are the most ethereal and otherworldly people in the Zodiac, dreaming more about what could be than living in what actually is. Visionary and prone to flights of fancy, Pisces folks add a compassionate and artistic dimension to our world. But when are you, Pisces, being an inspired dreamer, or just a cosmic escape artist?

Pisces, at your best. . .
. . . you are endlessly compassionate to every living being in the world. You are capable of a deep, egoless transcendence and tend to look for and value a spiritual connection with other people instead of a solely materialistic one. You don’t get caught up in all of the earth-bound issues that ensnare most people’s focus: money, status, looking cool, etc. Your values are more transcendental than material. This is because you can easily become anyone, and you can fit with any type of partner or become anyone’s friend. It is because of this chameleon nature that you feel so connected to everyone in the universe, because you can see a part of yourself in everyone you meet.

…and at you’re worst…
Feeling like you’re the next Mother Teresa? Well, a transcendental nature can run both ways. In fact, it can backfire into sheer escapism–yup, that vibrant inner fantasy life of yours can manifest into less desirable behaviors such as binge-watching Netflix and finishing another bottle of wine. You can wrap yourself up in a really cushy comfort zone, but it often results in you being unfocused, wishy-washy, and go-with-the-flow even when the flow ain’t going anywhere! Sometimes, it’s hard for you to be the driver in your own life, and you view everything fatalistically and superstitiously. You can be melodramatic and self-sacrificing to a fault, playing the martyr instead of accepting the consequences of your actions and taking initiative. Because you morph so easily, you sometimes forget to ask for what YOU want, leading to unsustainable relationships loaded with drama.

Handling your Pisces nature
Take measures to fully occupy your life by taking it in YOUR own hands. Don’t play the victim by lamenting about how everything bad magically happens to you. Don’t just stagnate in the cushy comfort zone you can conjure for yourself—actively harness your imaginative powers, shaping your visions into realities you can live, instead of just dream about. Get lots of REM sleep, solitude away from others’ demands, and unstructured time where you don’t need to accomplish anything in particular—or watch your escapist tendencies permeate into more serious parts of your life, causing things to fall apart. Use your feeling of connectedness to all living beings to do volunteer or charity work. This will make it possible for you to devote your spiritual nature to giving to those who can give back, instead of sinking it into family and friends who are losers and who just drain you.

Clueing others in about you….
…by telling them that you need solitude—a quiet, peaceful place where you can escape from life’s demands. Insist on taking time for yourself, because your kindness is a valuable resource that should not be depleted. Learn from every experience where your boundaries have been crossed or you’ve been taken advantage of. Set healthy boundaries and let other know what they are. Hold to them in a loving way. Build a spiritual practice into your life—you’ll be amazed by how it sustains you. And let all your friends know that, while you may seem like a follower, a shapeshifter, a morpher, that you do infact lead—but not in material ways. Your leadership is in the spiritual, the eternal realms, which is where you really live. When plugged into the divine and into a moral sense that sustains you, you are a guiding light for everyone around you.
