That sounds like a funny question, doesn’t it?  But have you ever noticed that your sign doesn’t really get along with the two signs next to it?  In fact, they may seem to be about as opposite as possible.  This may seem like an odd way to have the zodiac work, but it’s true and actually, it’s part of the design.

So let’s think about this for a minute.  If you’re a Cancer, aren’t you secretly repelled by all those superficial Geminis out there?  It’s ironic, because you could have a little Gemini in you if you are a Cancer, but the pure, watery nature of Cancer itself is very uncomfortable with Gemini logic and Cancer’s intuition feels that it’s beyond that.  Similarly, after Cancer we come to Leo, the star of the show, who deplores Cancer’s introversion.  Why hide behind Mama’s skirts when you can shine?  And Virgo, the next sign, looks at Leo with annoyance, “why can’t Leo tone it down a little?”  Earthy Virgo takes pride in delivering substance, not just fiery bluff and bluster.  All of the signs have attitude about the sign just before them and the sign after them is, well, beyond them.  So each zodiac sign is as different as possible in its basic nature from its neighbors.  But why should that be?

It’s because the zodiac is not just a collection of disconnected signs, but a holistic rhythm.  This may seem obvious to you if you’ve been reading astrology books for ages, but I remember when I was first starting to study astrology, and I encountered the writings of Dane Rudhyar (a great astrological thinker), who was the first to put forth this idea around the turn of the 1900s, and it was a new idea then.  The zodiac is a rhythm.  For a rhythm to flow, it needs to pulse.  It needs to incorporate contrast, differentness and complementarity.  For every up there is a down; for every “this” there is a “that.”  So we have blustery, excitable Fire always followed by staid, solid Earth, which is always followed by cerebral, theoretical Air, followed by emotional, intuitive Water, followed by blustery, excitable Fire again.  And this is how the signs are arranged, so the result is, the zodiac pulses, kind of like a heartbeat.  It has rhythm through the contrasting traits of signs as different as possible following each other.

There’s another nice side-effect to this rhythmic arrangement, which is that it allows human beings to be quite complex.  That happens because Mercury and Venus can always be found just a sign or two away from the Sun.  Astronomically, that’s because they orbit the Sun more closely than the Earth does.  So you’ll never find Mercury in opposition to the Sun in a birth chart.  And this means that Mercury and Venus may be in signs with natures very different from the Sun sign, adding complex layers to a person’s personality.

So the zodiac signs hate their neighbors.  And that benefits us, because we human beings are vast.  We get to encompass strong contrast inside a single human personality.  We get the opportunity to integrate greatly differing traits inside ourselves.  This makes us, and our lives, very, very interesting.

Jupiter and Chiron have met at the Edge of the World.  It’s a misty place where the physical world meets the metaphysical one.  Some of the passageways you already know about are there, such as the wardrobe that leads to Narnia, Dr. Who’s tardis and other magical entry-points.  Jupiter is wearing the long, flowing robes of a priest of no particular denomination—he looks like he could lead a dharma talk or deliver a sermon.  Chiron is wearing nothing but a piece of cloth wrapped around his middle, and carrying a staff with a fearsome creature’s face atop it—perhaps a totem animal, the face of an ancestor, or a defeated enemy’s head.  The two meet and shake hands firmly.

Jupiter:  Shall we get to work?
Chiron:  Yes, of course.
Chiron waves his staff and the air ripples, as if there is a heat-induced mirage.  Then a doorway appears, a portal.  Inside the portal there is mist—it is impossible to see very far and all the colors are in softened shades of gray.
Chiron:  Are they ready?
Jupiter:  On my side, they’ve been lining up for centuries.  And on yours?
Chiron:  There’s no knowing, because time doesn’t exist there.
Jupiter claps his hands three times, and suddenly there is a line of people extending for miles.  Each stands with hands at sides, eyes closed and wearing a simple white shift.  They are obviously asleep.
Jupiter (beckoning):  Come forward, please.
The first Human steps forward haltingly.
Jupiter:  What is your wish?
First Human:  I wish to relieve karma in my family line.  I have an ancestor whose pain I have been carrying and whose lessons I am to learn.  I wish to check in with this ancestor.
Jupiter:  Your wish is a fine one.  You may go to the portal.
First Human walks awkwardly to the portal, where Chiron awaits.
Chiron:  I have found your ancestor.  You may speak with her.  Step in and I will make sure you return safely to your waking life.
First Human touches his hand in gratitude and steps through the portal.
Second Human steps forward.
Jupiter:  What is your wish?
Second Human:  I wish to communicate with the spirit of my unborn child, to make a connection and to create a safe pregnancy and birth.  I wish to make a spiritual contract to help bring a life into the world.
Jupiter:  Your wish is a fine one.  You may go to the portal.
Second Human:  Thank you.  And she does so.
Chiron:  Your little one awaits you on the other side.  He says things may not turn out as you expect, and that you have to be patient, but he wants to be with you, so you may speak with him to arrange it.  I will make sure you return safely to your waking life.
Second Human eagerly crosses the threshold.
Third Human steps forward.
Jupiter:  What is your wish?
Third Human:  I have been wronged and I desire justice.
Jupiter:  Your wish is a false one.  If your desire is for peace, you can find that here.  If it is for punishment, you’d best go back to your waking life.
A look of anger crosses Third Human’s face.
Third Human:  I have been wronged!  I wish for life’s balance to deal out pain where pain was given!
Jupiter:  Your bitterness will not bring you peace.  Let it go and pursue your own joy.  The person who hurt you will find pain to match it elsewhere, and that is not your story to know.  In your story, you have the power to be the place where the pain stops.  Dream of that, and for now, return to your sleep and awaken refreshed and ready to begin again.
He touches the forehead of Third Human, whose face relaxes and who turns and stumbles away toward the Waking World.
Fourth Human steps forward, holding a large messenger bag.
Jupiter:  What is your wish?
Fourth Human:  I have letters I wish to be delivered to my younger self and questions for my older self.  I want to encourage my younger self to pursue my dreams and ambitions and to be brave in the face of the challenges I know are to come.  I also want to ask my older self for guidance in moving toward the best future I can have.
Jupiter:  Your wish is a fine one.  You may go to the portal.
Fifth Human steps forward.
Jupiter:  What is your wish?
Fifth Human:  I am consumed with jealousy.  If I could just find out if my partner is cheating on me, I could have relief.
Jupiter:  Your wish is a false one.  If your desire is for peace, you can find that here.  If it is for punishment, you’d best go back to your waking life.
Fifth Human starts in confusion.
Fifth Human:  But we made a promise to each other!  That promise has been broken, I’m sure of it!
Jupiter:  You do not own each other.  Love yourself first and then others.  If you cannot trust your partner, then empty your heart.  After it heals, seek to share love elsewhere.  And for now, return to deep sleep, and awaken to your waking life refreshed and ready to begin again.
He touches the heart of Fifth Human, whose face relaxes and who turns and stumbles away toward the Waking World.
As there are thousands of sleeping Human Beings in line, ready for guidance or some other connection with the world of spirit, these two will obviously be busy for the rest of this harmonious transit.

Gemini SIL image copyDo you love a Gemini?
Are you a Gemini in love?

Human relationships are complex, layered things.  Every sign responds to love differently and has needs that are particular to it.  Also no individual can be categorized by their Sun sign alone.  Every person is a mixed bag of astrological traits, but an emphasis on Gemini in your chart (or Mercury, its ruling planet) will result in distinctly Geminian experience.  In particular, if you have the Sun or Moon in Gemini OR if you have Venus or Juno in Gemini, this article is just for you.

Are you a Gemini in love?
How did you ever get that way?  Someone must have stimulated your mind and made you really think.  Someone must have challenged your intelligence or shown that their vocabulary is (temporarily) larger than yours.  Someone must have not bored you.  That’s the only way you could possibly have fallen into the irrational state we call love.  Well, now that you’re there, let’s make the best of it.  Enjoy turning off your active brain for a while and let the sensation of romance wash over you.  Quick, before you start thinking again!  What?  It’s too late?  Then your partner had better be witty, intelligent and mentally agile, or you will flit away like a butterfly.

How to manage your relationships as a Gemini. . .
The famous duality of the Twins is not an asset in relationship.  Both sides of you must like the person you’re dating or it’s a non-starter.  For you, liking is as important as loving.  Here’s another thing: you like to gather all the data before making a decision and that can mean postponing things like monogamy, proposals, marriage, or even dating at all.  You may not want to let your beloved in on your full thought process until it’s complete, and your beloved may feel as if he has been kept out of the loop, or even downright deceived.  You’re of two minds—that can’t be helped.  But communicating all your thoughts (instead of just the ones that will be received positively) is the honorable thing to do.

Do you love a Gemini?
I admire you.  I pity you too (I have Venus in Gemini myself).  Get out your butterfly net—you’re going to need it.  Certainly, a Gemini is hard to catch and then where will you keep him?  Not in a cage, certainly.  He must want to stay with you of his own free will—and that’s always changing.  You’re putting yourself in a vulnerable position, giving your heart to a Gemini.  But if you’ve just had a conversation that started as a brief chat at a party and ended 6 hours later in a bar or bedroom, then you’re hooked.  It’s quite possible you met online and if so, be sure to meet in person before placing your heart in your Gemini’s hands.  After all, love is not just a theory.

If you have Venus or Juno in Gemini in your chart, the chances of you dating Geminians is very high.  How to handle the Gemini you love. . .

  • Feed his curiosity with interesting questions.  Listen with interest to his factoids.
  • Be patient.  She will surely flit away but just as likely she will flit back—especially if you are not grasping.  All you have to do is wait.
  • Praise his intelligence, but value his wisdom even more highly.  As he ages, he will acquire more of it.
  • Squash her snarky gossip; she’s covering a fear of inadequacy with it.  Instead, encourage her to bring open-mindedness and objectivity to her friendships, and to listen more and talk less.  Her friendships will deepen and last longer.
  • Don’t press your Gemini to make decisions too fast, or after inadequate data-gathering.  And definitely don’t expect swift action.
  • Share your favorite book with her.  Tell you why you love it.  Find out what hers is.

Check out this EXCELLENT description of Mars in Libra individuals, posted by a blogger whose name I could not find on her blog.

Charming, Strategic, Non-Confrontational
People born with Mars in Libra would rather not fight. They are aggressively peaceful. That may sound oxymoronic, but these are the cool Pink Panther types that derive joy out of killing people with kindness.  The angrier their opponent gets the nicer they will behave. These people wrote the book on remaining cool under pressure.  They actually thrive there.   They will drive their opponent insane with their lack of cooperation in the anger game. These people are usually very skilled debaters. They are usually very good at talking their way out of confrontations and charming their way into their love interest’s bed. They hide their intentions behind manners and chivalry.  They are violently charming, so be very careful trusting these people.  They are experts at hiding possibly dubious intentions behind flowers petals, perfume, and smiles.

Men:
A man born with Mars in Libra will be one of the coolest people you will ever meet. He will be. . .

Squeezing the Sponge image

Are you a

“highly sensitive”

Neptune person?

You know you’re one if:

  • You feel everything more than other people seem to.
  • It’s hard to shut out the world.
  • You have a rich imagination—which leads to inspiration but also to escapism.
  • You take on other people’s problems too much—and don’t know how to stop.
  • Caring for those you love is so important that you habitually let your own life go to rack and ruin so you can be there for them.

If so, I’ve got something really nice for you.

Who needs this:
Pisces/Neptune types.

Astrologically this means you if you have a strong Pisces or Neptune (ruler of Pisces) influence in your chart.  That might mean you have the Sun in Pisces, the Moon in Pisces or Pisces Rising.  It might mean you have Neptune in any aspect at all to your Sun or Moon, or you might have Neptune Rising or at your Midheaven.  If you have more than one of these, you pretty much qualify as a Highly Sensitive Person.

Psychologically this means you if you resonate with the first paragraph of this blogpost, whether you know anything about your astrology chart or not.  And if you do resonate with this, I’ll bet your chart has a strong Neptune or Pisces influence.

Why you need it:
Your sensitivity to the emotional states of others comes from your way of being porous, like a sponge.  You are impressionable—any atmosphere you place yourself in will affect you and get inside you.  You may then mistake it for a part of yourself and take it on as if it was yours.  When you live with or work with someone who generates a lot of negative emotions, this can be disastrous.

Every human being generates a kind of emotional bubble around themselves.  Some call this your “aura.”  It’s a kind of energy field.  When we relate with others, we connect with them and merge bubbles to create a shared bubble for the duration of the interaction.  Your Pisces tendency is to equalize the pain inside the shared bubble.  So if someone comes to you looking for sympathy, you will merge with them and try to ease their burden by taking their pain (of whatever kind: anger, grief, resentment, self-destruction) into your own bubble.  You sponge it right up.  It’s REALLY important to squeeze the sponge out periodically, because that negativity you’re feeling might not even be yours.  And if you get doses of negativity every day and never squeeze it out. . . well obviously that’s the cause of any number of emotional and health complaints you may have.

Here’s the meditation:
Squeezing The Sponge Meditation

How to do it:
Get in a comfortable place, sitting in a relaxed, supported position or lying down at a time when you’re not likely to fall asleep.  If you can be in a natural setting, so much the better.  Listen to the recording and follow the instructions it gives your imagination.  At the end, give yourself a minute or two to stretch and begin to slowly re-enter your day.  Do the meditation every day, at least once a day, for 30 days.

Make it a practice
You need to “squeeze the sponge out” on a regular basis.  If you’ve never had a practice like this before, begin by doing it every day, perhaps even several times a day.  After a while (weeks perhaps, or maybe months), you won’t need it as often and you may know the meditation by heart.  In that case, you won’t need the recording anymore and you’ll be able to do it faster.  Then you can do it on public transit or while waiting in line at the bank.

Turning your sensitivity into a gift, not a curse
You’re a natural healer.  You heal through compassion and other people tend to feel their burden is lifted just by being around you.  You are capable of truly understanding other people, even in places where they feel deeply misunderstood—which means you have an in with them.  You can also forgive (not everyone can).  These are beautiful traits and you may have, out of reaction to your sensitivity and out of the need to protect yourself, closed these abilities off.  If you learn to let go of the negativity you soak up, you can live life in the emotionally open way that’s natural to you, like a flower soaking up the rain and sunshine.  You can lead with the imagination, experience deep gratitude at being alive, and move on to enjoying life more and drowning in it less.  A lot less.

Notice how your life changes
Using this meditation can change your life, but not in ways that are dramatic or directly causal.  If anyone is tuned into subtleties, it’s you, so begin to pay attention to the subtle changes in your life that are already beginning to occur after the very first time you do this meditation.

Notice how changes happen in ways that don’t seem connected to this meditation, but simply unfold naturally in the fresh atmosphere it creates in your life.  Your environment will change and with it, yourself.  Watch yourself begin to really occupy your life.  Move in.  Make it yours.  Be a person.  Become you.  You don’t have to lose all the other selves you could be.  Let them roll around in your imagination.

Reclaim your intuition.  Has your intuition been drowned under all the negativity you’ve absorbed?  Have you become calcified in an attempt to protect yourself from that negativity?  It’s time to let all that go and reclaim your intuitive knowing.  This meditation will help.  It’s my gift to you.

Change your world for the better
Pisces/Neptune person, you are the Visionary, the Dreamer and the Artist.  The Force is strong with you.  Allow the fruits of your imagination to seep out into the world and create good.  This is more satisfying than anything and living in a way that protects you from the pain of others actually liberates you to do more good.  Please do, because the world needs you. . . and your dreams.
