This month’s Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse and it shouldn’t be too intense. The Moon is in cool, collected, clever Gemini, while the Sun is in warm, friendly Sagittarius. Uranus assists in Aries. There may be “no escape” but this isn’t a bad trap to be caught in.
Details About This Eclipse
Date: November 28, 2012
Time of eclipse: 6:48 AM PST
Type: penumbral (weak in intensity)
Visible in: Europe, eastern Africa, Asia, Australia, the Pacific ocean and most of North America.
At: 6 degrees Gemini
Shadow Agent: Uranus (in Aries)
Does It Affect You Personally?
If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you are likely to experience this eclipse:
August 23-September 2
November 22-December 2
Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A lunar eclipse is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event (unlike a solar eclipse, which is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event). The following script is just one possible way it could go.
You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. The Moon stands there, wearing her thinking cap, and tied up with ropes. Uranus, grinning, holds the end of one rope while the Sun stands by in a glowing orange outfit. What could it mean?
You: All right, what are you all doing here? You’ve got something to tell me, I’m sure.
Moon (yanking on the rope defiantly): But I can explain everything!
Sun: That’s exactly the problem. When you’re in Gemini, you are very good at explaining everything you feel. This habit gives you an escape from the feelings themselves.
Moon: But I can’t help but feel—I’m the Moon! Feelings are what I’m all about.
Sun: But you need to stop being so damned clever and notice what the feelings are. You’re trying to escape them. You’re trying to skate across the surface of them.
The Moon turns and you can see that her figure skates are hanging off her shoulder by their laces. They are still wet from the ice.
Sun: Aha! Told you! You’ve forgotten about the big picture, Moon! You’ve gotten lost in the details you can explain with your clever mind and your clever words. Now, I’m not much for words myself. Actions matter more to me.
Uranus: We had to tie you up, Moon, because you were running circles around the Sun, being smart but talking yourself out of what you were feeling.
You: So the shadow here is to use intelligence and cleverness as an escape from feeling?
You: So what’s the solution?
Uranus: We don’t want suggest throwing out intelligence. Breakthrough thinking is important, and the willingness to entertain new, startling ideas can lead to deeper understanding of the emotions you’ve been trying to escape.
Moon: Can I explain now?
Uranus: Only if you’re willing to feel something while you do it.
Moon: Oh, I’m having a feeling, I know I am!
Uranus: If you can say that, you’re not having a real feeling.
Sun: Clearly, this is going to take some work.
Uranus: Fortunately, I’m here to help.
You: I suppose the moral of this story is, “don’t use your head to do heart’s work”?
Uranus: Exactly. But also, “don’t throw out your intelligence just because it failed to describe your actual experience.”
You: That’s deep.
Sun: Then we accomplished what we came for. Off we go!
The trio departs, continuing to argue, but in a friendly way.

As the scene opens, we see a Human walking through dreary countryside, carrying heavy burdens. Saturn and Chiron show up on the scene. They talk with each other.
Saturn: I see you showed up to help.
Chiron: Yes, of course. A Human is in pain and here I am. Who is it?
Saturn: It’s a Wounded Father.
Chiron: Ah, I’m familiar with those. Remember when you and I got stuck with each other in the middle nineteen-sixties, when we were in Pisces?
Saturn: I remember that conjunction all too well.
Chiron: A lot of humans were born then that are still trying to figure out how to have structure and self-discipline in their lives in a balanced way.
Saturn: That’s putting it mildly!
Chiron: I try to be mild sometimes. What can we do for this fellow now?
Saturn: We need to show him that we can get along. That we understand each other. That having a father, and being a father, doesn’t have to hurt.
Chiron: But the pain is a necessary part of the process! The Wounded Fathers of the world are special to me. They are working on healing their whole male line.
Saturn: Some are having an easier time of it than others.
Chiron: I guess it really is time to show them that fathers can be whole, that self-discipline doesn’t have to cut them off from themselves. We’ll work on this human together. Saturn, why don’t you start the process?
Saturn rolls up a little ball of magic and lobs it at Wounded Father. Wounded Father straightens up and gets an ambitious gleam in his eye. His burden feels lighter. He takes off his burden and looks at it.
Wounded Father: Hmm, maybe this isn’t really so bad. Maybe there’s a reason why I have these burdens. Maybe those who look to me, my children and other dependents, are reason enough to be inspired to go on.
His face looks brighter. Chiron approaches.
Chiron: Are you open to healing this father-wound?
Wounded Father: It’s not mine—it came from my father, and his father before him. Some of the fathers that came before me were too weak, some were absent, some overly harsh or controlling. My family represents all the ways of fathering badly. That’s why it feels so heavy. I can’t bear it alone. I can’t keep it together. And people are depending on me.
Saturn: Truer words were never said.
Chiron: Show me the wound.
Wounded Father opens his shirt carefully. His chest is a gory, bloody mass.
Wounded Father: I’ve forgotten how to love those I support. I have a family and I work to support them, but I’ve forgotten how to love them and let them love me.
Chiron: You’ve split off your soul, haven’t you?
Wounded Father: Had to. Now I don’t know how to get it back.
Chiron: Are you willing to heal the pain of not being fathered yourself?
Wounded Father: I’m ready. Just do it, because I can’t stand this anymore.
Saturn: I’ll make sure you remain standing. You have duties, remember? But you don’t have to be stoic—you can become both strong and supple.
Saturn stands next to Wounded Father and holds him up. Chiron opens his mouth and utters a single, godly musical sound, a sound too large for human ears to tolerate. Floating in the air next to him appear some small points of light. Chiron: Fragments of your soul.
Saturn places them where they belong. Wounded Father nearly doubles over with the pain of it. He begins weeping and as he does, the wound closes and heals over. He stands up, straighter than before. There is a glow around him now.
Saturn: That’s better, eh?
Wounded Father: No kidding!
Chiron: Can you forgive your own father for what he couldn’t give you?
Wounded Father: Yes, and my whole male line—the generations of pain are finally over.
Chiron: It stopped with you.
Saturn: You’ve created a whole new legacy. Now you can go on from here.
Wounded Father, no longer wounded, walks on in his inner landscape, which is now brighter and full of possibility.

A solar eclipse in Scorpio is bound to be intense. How do we cope? Fortunately Pallas Athene assists with a helpful trine from Pisces.

Time of eclipse: 2:08 PM PST
Type: Total (strong in intensity)
Visible in: Northern Australia and the South Pacific.
At: 21 degrees Scorpio
Shadow Agent: Pallas Athene in Pisces
Does It Affect You Personally?
If your birthday is on any of the following dates, you most likely experienced this eclipse:
Remember, not every eclipse touches everyone, but when it does, it’s usually noticeable. A solar eclipse is likely to be marked by an external, real-world event (unlike a lunar eclipse, which is likely to bring up strong emotions and to be experienced as a subjective event). The following script is just one possible way it could go.
You hear a knock at the door. You answer it. Athene is there, dressed in her usual light armor, with her helmet on, and wrist and leg guards. She’s got a wheelbarrow full of logs, sticks and odds and ends of paper. Peeking from the side of the pile you can see some matches.
You: This can not be good. You know, I’m a little tired of deities showing up at my door and putting me through experiences I feel little control over.
Athene: That’s life as a human being.
She pushes past you. You follow.
You: Where are you going?
Athene: We need a safe place for this. Where’s the basement?
You: You’re the goddess—don’t you know?
Athene: Snottiness will not get you out of this.
You: Why am I surprised?
She finds the basement door and heads downstairs, levitating the wheelbarrow behind her. It shouldn’t fit, but it does. Momentarily, you are in the basement with her, where she’s pushing things aside to clear space.
You: Hey, that’s my stuff!
Athene: Mortals are always saying that. You won’t need it for this.
You: Who sent you?
Athene: The eclipse, of course. And you should be grateful, because I’m going to be gentle with you. If you follow my instructions to the letter.
You: Gods are always saying that. Alright, I give up—what are we going to do today?
Athene: We are going to burn away your shadow. It won’t hurt as much as you think. If you’re willing to detach from it.
You: Sounds tricky.
Athene: It is. Now take off all your clothes!
You: Um… not what I had in mind. Besides, the last time a guy saw you naked, you blinded him!*
Athene: He ended up pretty well–got the gift of prophecy, I recall. Besides, I’m not getting naked—just you. Now strip!
You do so, shivering in the cold basement. Athene turns on the brightest lights she can find. Your shadow appears on the floor. It starts sniveling.
Shadow: Oh please don’t hurt me, ma’am. I’m the victim of the situation!
Athene: Just what I thought you’d say. Human, do you know what your shadow is up to when you’re not looking?
You: Probably not.
Athene: Getting into all kinds of trouble. Rousing all kinds of negative feelings in you, like resentment, misanthropy and hate. These feelings justify revenge-based actions. They make you want to “get even,” only “even” is never the result. There is no “even” until someone decides to turn the other cheek. So here’s the million-dollar question: Is your shadow you?
You: Of course not.
Athene: If you’re so sure, take it off.
Athene: Take your shadow off. You’re not completely naked until you’ve taken off your shadow.
You spend a few minutes trying to peel the shadowy figure off the floor or step away from it—anything to get it separated from yourself. Nothing works. Meanwhile Athene has built a fire and lit it. It’s crackling merrily and smudging the ceiling.
Athene: All right, in you go then!
You: Oh, no!
Athene (looks at you sternly): You know the rules. It hurts less if you do it yourself.
You jump in. The sensation of burning is indeed very bad at first, but you begin to realize your shadow is not, in fact, the same as yourself. After that, it’s actually kind of amusing. Your shadow screams, kicks and begs for release, while you and Athene begin joking about how silly it looks.
Athene: That’s a very good sign—being able to have a sense of humor about your shadow. You’re in good shape. My work here is done.
You: Can I come out of the fire now?
Just then, your shadow, which had burned down to nothing, rises from the fire, a phoenix of its former self. It now glows like an angel.
Athene: Now you can come out!
